Nice restaurant, excellent entrees, apps were hit or miss. We arrived early and received very attentive service. Understandably short-staffed and service slowed to a trickle by the end of the meal. Wines by the glass only. No bottle menu. I can imagine in a normal world with a full restaurant of patrons and staff we would have had a more memorable experience. I recommend supporting finer dining in Northern Virginia like Bistro Sancerre. We will try again.

Good food, good service. Took us a minute to figure out how to find the door coming from the main street, ( it is around the back of the building).

A hidden gem. Food was quite tasty. Enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner there with my son. A tremendous selection of wines that you can actually physically select yourself after exploring different varieties, wine region, etc. if interested in purchasing a bottle to go with your meal. I’d been there before and enjoyed the food. I will be going back. All the staff were helpful and courteous. Thankful for them when they were only working a short time. The restaurant was only open from 5:00-8:00 pm on this day.

Food was mediocre and soup was barely warm and had to be returned to the kitchen to be heated to the proper temperature. Caesar salad was bland and uneventful as were the appetizers, escargot and fried lobster bites.

There was nothing bad about Bistro Sincerre, but nothing exceptional about it either. We both enjoyed our meals, but nothing pulling us to go back either.

The dinner was amazing!!! Best steak I have eaten, ever! Perfect for a night out with friends or family. The staff was super nice and perfectly attentive. Will most definitely keep this in mind for future events. If you want a place where you can hear your friends and have a nice conversation and a great meal, this is perfect.

My first time here and will certainly go back. This was the perfect spot to celebrate the 7th wedding anniversary of good friends of mine. The service and food were great. They had escargot! I have not had escargot in ages and these were perfectly done. The duck was perfect as was everything we had.

And, we could hear one another talk without shouting.

Salmon cooked perfectly. Not much of it however. And the beet salad was great but one cup of it. The ice cream was (vanilla only) icy like it was in the freezer for a while and the”hot fudge” was a thimble full of drizzle on top. Lemon drop martini was pretty tart.

This was dinner celebrating my wife's birthday. I have to say that it was a memorable even for all the right reasons. The service was excellent and the food was mind blowing. I do have to add the caveat that we had the restaurant almost to ourselves. But we arrived early, 5:30pm. Must have been a slow night. But still the service, ambiance, food and experience was one I will not forget. Just EXCELLENT!

Bistro Sancerre just seems to be… going downhill. I remember dining here when they first opened and were struggling to get guests in, but the food and service were top notch. Every visit since then has been just a little less. Last night was the worst of all. Don’t get me wrong, it was not awful, but it was nothing near what it was when it first opened. Loved eating outside in the wide open courtyard and the wine selection is decent (for Alexandria). Food wasn’t slow but it wasn’t delicious. Steaks were over cooked, scallops undercooked, salmon over seasoned. I don’t know if their food supplier changed, or maybe the chef was unexpectedly out, but the food was just a shadow of what it once was. Service was ok but quite slow (not unusual for pandemic times). Overall, I’d consider returning just because of the wonderful outdoor dining and I love supporting this local business, but I don’t think I’ll be ordering “fancy” food anymore, just the basics (hopefully those will be ok).

Prices were (not coincidentally) hidden or not discussed for wine (by the bottle) and specials (highly recommended by the server).

Interesting, well curated, and excellent wine selection is a key reason we selected a wine bistro for dinner. $80 for the recommended California wine was high, compared to the same vintner we’ve tried elsewhere. Although not extraordinarily high, it t was more the fact a price by glass of $8 and another price of $20 for the same wine (on the wine menu) led all 4 in our party to interpret the bottle price as an economical $20. It was upon later inspection we noticed the $20 was the “flight” price, whatever that is.

Who provides a wine menu, especially at a wine bistro, without prices by the bottle? Furthermore, if not published, the price should at least be offered to the patrons. Bistro Sancerre has a wonderful selection of great white, red and other wines, in their retail section bins, much broader than their wine menu listed at the table. While this visit we were not encouraged to do so, last time we found a terrific selection of French, California and other wines at the $80 and below price point.

The other reason to dine out at a bistro, the food. This was the other major price-to-value mismatch we were subjected to. We were intrigued enough to order server also different items from the heavily marketed (by our server) surf and turf specials. Most steak and other main courses maxed out at a very reasonable $39. The hidden (not discussed, offered or revealed by the server, and not published on the paper menus - which could be printed daily), nearly doubled the price! The server (or menu) should have set appropriate expectations that the “specials” add a hefty $30 to the main course price listed on the menu. Our “surf” portion added a very small lobster tail or 3 scallops to our $39 steak selection for a $67 price tag - which felt significantly over-priced. It is only fair to add the lobster and scallops were good.

First time for us there and the food was impressive; well executed. We will go back.
However, the ambiance did not convey bistro, with its cold, hard surfaces everywhere. A decorator needs to take a second look and rethink things. As important as the food is, where you enjoy it matters too.

Our waitress was lovely and the food fine despite the fact that one of us did not get what was ordered. We gently made this known but agreed to go with it as the difference was not that great. Service was poor. Example: It took 30 minutes to get coffee and dessert-creme brûlée. It was explained that there were no clean coffee pots to be found, thus the delay. Submitted credit card to pay bill. Nearly 10 mins later waitress returned saying machine was down & asked if we could pay with cash. If not, we could leave our CC info & when machine was up they would process. No to both requests. We were directed to an ATM across the courtyard in order to get cash. Hostess apologetic but no effort to make up for issues. Even comping our $9 dessert( total bill was $190) would have been something. The place was not particularly busy so not sure about service issues except that there seemed to be just the one very pleasant waitress No idea what was going on in the kitchen. We will not recommend or return.

Sorry about your experience. It was restaurant week, so they were extremely busy compared to normal. The waitress, or anyone at the restaurant, did not have any control over the Credit card processor being down, which was occupying a great deal of their time and efforts. Trying to take items off anyone's bill would just have compounded the issue.

It took quite a long time to get our second drink. The dessert, chocolate mousse, was just plopped into a hamburger to go box vice something a little more expected for a dessert. The server did not wear a mask, which caused her to stand 6 foot away from us forcing her to talk in a louder than normal voice, which made it uncomfortable. The food was very good and I would recommend it to my friends.

This was our first visit to Bistro Sancerre and for sure it will not be the last. Best service in recent memory. Outstanding. And very accommodating. One of our party wanted a diet soft drink. The fountain drink machine wasn't working but she managed to find him a bottled soda which was even better than the fountain.

Food was great and reasonably priced. EVERYTHING WE HAD, including salads and appetizers were as good as it gets.

Even the patio was awesome. If you haven't been there, you are missing one of the better restaurants in our area.

It's a little hard to find because it's well hidden which makes it even more enjoyable.

I was disappointed with my food choices: my french onion soup did not have the thick layer of cheese on top that I expected & it was very little phyllo dough on my baked brie & honey appetizer. My husband had escargot & beef wellington bites & they were good.

Great setting. One of my colleagues asked for a second glass of wine during happy hour but did not receive it. When she asked again for the glass of wine, she was told it was too late for the "happy hour price". Had to ask for more hot fudge on the ice cream because it was a mere drizzle. Food was good but expensive.

We ate at this restaurant with another couple on July 27th. We ate outside and asked for separate checks.

The food was OK, but overpriced in our opinion.

What left a bad taste in all of our mouths was the seeming deception that occurred when we asked for our separate checks. The server brought the detailed checks, and we gave her our credit cards. Neither couple looked closely at the bills, but then we began talking about being surprised that the tabs were so high. When the server brought the payment tabs, we were surprised that the detailed bills were not included. Just a subtotal, a blank tip line, a blank total line, and a signature line. So, no way to check the accuracy of the bills. We had seen our server walk away from the eating area to have a cigarette, so I went inside and asked to see the itemized bills. The ones we had been given had somehow disappeared, so I had to wait quite a while for the employee to recreate the detailed bills. When we got them, we found that a 20% gratuity had already been charged to us.

We were not told that a gratuity had been added, and we were given a payment slip that included a blank tip line. To my mind this is a very deceptive practice, one that I have never encountered before. And I eat out several times per month.

I will never patronize this restaurant again.

Food was very good, every meal was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Appetizers were great also. Our issue was that the service was very disorganized and wait staff seemed to be confused often. Dining took much longer than it should have so we skipped dessert. If they can get the service issues corrected we would return because we liked the menu and setting of restaurant.
