Food was very good, every meal was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Appetizers were great also. Our issue was that the service was very disorganized and wait staff seemed to be confused often. Dining took much longer than it should have so we skipped dessert. If they can get the service issues corrected we would return because we liked the menu and setting of restaurant.
This place is getting better, we are big fans and want to see them succeed. Such a great location, great wine list, and great food. So happy they are getting some additional staff.
A few small confusion about our order, but otherwise amazing food and service. Loved that the art gallery was attached.
The staff and service were wonderful. The food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was great. I look forward to dining at Bistro Sancerre again!
Wonderful food in a very quaint setting. Something of a hidden gem.
Three of us chose the Japanese cut of beef. The sliced 8 oz cut the best. We had asparagus, exotic mushrooms and mashed potatoes. All good. My other friend had the scallops. Very good. We have also had the rack of lamb. Very good.
This was our 5th or 6th visit and the Bistro has never disappointed.
The food and ambiance were excellent, and Ingrid was a wonderful, attentive server. Would highly recommend Bistro Sancerre.
Paris in Old Town Alexandria. Hidden gem across from King St. Metro, adjacent to Embassy Suites. Elegant modern dining room decorated with local artists’ paintings. Everything we ordered was excellent – Mini-Beef Wellington appetizer, salmon and scallops entrees, chocolate lava cake. See photos. Extensive selection of wines by the glass. Highly recommend.
We had a delicious dinner at Bistro Sancerre. The crab stuffed lobster tail appetizer is amazing as well as the lamb chop entrée. We will definitely come back.
Nice, quaint place with great food and good service.
Excellent service and delicious food. A bit expensive but definitely worth it. Awesome for a date night.
Bistro Sancerre was a beautiful indoor dining experience. From every aesthetic detail like faux ivy hanging from the light fixtures, to the authentic paintings all around, this restaurant is very artistically complete. The food was also amazing, and very French. The escargot was wonderful and the Waygu Bavette au Poivre was stunning. The desserts were wonderful and the servers were extremely accommodating. It was a spectacular dining experience overall.
Not enough staff, but the food was very delicious. Getting a simply bread basket required 3-4 requests.
We went there on a Wed evening for our anniversary. The service was perfect; friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. The food was delicious. The charcuterie board was substantial and very tasty. The salmon was perfectly done. I particularly liked selecting my wine in their wine room. There is a great selection and reasonably priced. We enjoyed it so much that we went back on Friday to have a couple of the appetizers and a wine flight. It is an elegant place with superb food and service. It was so nice to find a place like this where it is quiet enough to have a nice conversation. We intend to go again soon to try their outdoor seating.
Pablo and the rest of the staff were so friendly and attentive! The food was fantastic and even though we were too full for dessert, they brought out a crime brûlée for my wife’s birthday. It was the best brûlée either of us had ever tasted. A wonderful dining experience.
This is the little known sister restaurant to my favs restaurant in the area - Grand Cru - tho Sancerre is fast approaching fave status. The food is phenomenal, wine list is outstanding, location is great - right on the metro in Old Town, and the patio is huge. Service is v friendly. I’ve been there twice recently and loved it both times. Get the deviled eggs - as a connoisseur, there are THE BEST.
My wife and I went to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. The choice was perfect, the food was delicious, the attention was very careful and the atmosphere was very pleasant, without noise, ideal for a pleasant conversation. I recommend you visit this restaurant, you will not be disappointed!
What a hidden gem!! The food was exceptional - every dish was prepared with obvious care and expertise and kept us marveling at the flavors. Some particular standouts: brioche bread, wagyu steak and especially the 7 herb garlic butter! Wines by the glass were great and the larger bottle selection is impressive and visually appealing. Our server was appropriately enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. On a Wednesday night we were one of only 3 tables so we basically had the restaurant to ourselves - a nice re-entry to indoor dining. I hope it survives COVID - kind of an odd location obviously doesn’t drive traffic there, but if you’re looking truly great cooking and very good service, definitely give Bistro Sancerre a try.
Terrific food and great wine!
This place has so much potential with the convenient location, excellent wine options and abundant outdoor seating! Right now they have two wait staff meaning they are having to turn people away which is really sad given how great it could be. We will keep supporting them and hope they are able to attract some additional staff.
So sorry. We have been trying to hire more staff for months without any luck.
Bistro Sancerre is our "go to" spot whenever meeting friends for happy hour or dinner. The food, service and ambience are all outstanding!
The only minor critique I have is that they need to update their happy hour menu to reflect that they are now open at 5pm. Prior to COVID-19, they offered happy hour 4pm-6:30pm. However, they now do not open until 5pm. This can be quite frustrating for a customer - inaccurate details on menus/websites/social media, and it's a pet peeve of mine.
Food always outstanding, service always poor, always short staffed. The people working try hard, wish they had more help!
We have been trying to hire additional staff for months with no luck.
Amazing food and service. The ambiance is incredible. We had the brunch menu and enjoyed the Waygu steak and eggs (perfectly cooked) and the French toast. Also amazing unique cocktail menu. We had the hazelnut old fashioned. Sooooo good!
Highly recommend this place for family or date night.
We went for Mother’s Day and everything was perfect.
Great service and food. Pretty ambiance in a cute location. Will definitely return!!
Free parking was really $5 after validation. Very tucked away and a challenge to find after parking in the garage.
The filet of beef was awesome...very tasty and very tender...good size too. That peanut butter desert was the best dessert I've had in years. The waiters were helpful, but not annoying. The restaurant is new and a bit off of the beaten path, but well worth hunting down. The fixed price, three course menu was not cheap, but within reason. I will definitely return.
Good food and service in a convenient Alexandria location. I do believe the layout of the restaurant itself could use a redesign to improve ambience.
I ordered the crab cakes and petite salad. Salad was mearly garnish on the plate placed around crab cakes. The crab cakes had mostly lump meat and not too much filler (basically some breadcrumbs) but rather bland. I don't understand why restaurants don't wash lettuce and serve it dry. A little moisture would help dressing adhere although in this case there was no dressing (unless you were supposed to use the sauce on the side but a bit of olive oil would have been better). The service staff were attentive.
Love the place. Crepes were tasty but not at a proper temperature to fully enjoy. Too
Much dressing on petite salad Dinner before was better than lunch this time. Will try again
The food is good and the service is fine, but nothing remarkable about this restaurant. It is a bit difficult to find the entrance as it is in the middle of a courtyard.
I’m confused about all the good reviews. Second time I’ve been and service was horrible!
Where to start. There was no one at the host stand to greet me. A waiter noticed, came over and immediately asked “table for one?”. Me “nope, I have a reservation for 3”. Got seated. Got a drink. Waited for the rest of the party. They arrived. Had a runner ask us if we need any other drinks. 15 mins passed by and no one returned. We left money for our two drinks and went to Whiskey and Oyster with great service and food.
Excellent service, food, and reasonably priced. Well worth the trip. Bon Appetit..
We had a beautiful evening and so ate outside on a Saturday night at this wonderful restaurant. They have a pleasant outside setting with lots of tables, with no noise. We also had a terrific waiter whose timing was impeccable. We ordered salmon and the steak frites. Beautiful presentation of our meals and everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. The wine choice is superior and prices lower than other restaurants. Not an inexpensive dinner but you get what you pay for. I would recommend to a friend and already have.
A hidden gem. Sat outside. Great ambience. Good wine and food
I don't even know where to begin. I guess I would start with the fact that we were here for our third wedding anniversary and to their credit, we were greeted with a 'Happy Anniversary' and a complementary glass of champagne.
That's where the good news of the evening ends.
It was not busy in the restaurant, yet our server took forever to get to us to take our order. He didn't get my order right and our drinks were never refilled and he never came by to check on us until the end when we were ready to go. As far as the food goes, it was...okay. The Ribeye was overtly salty. There's less salt in the ocean and the rosemary fries are partly responsible too. But what really hurt the most was that we were mostly ignored for the evening. We would have stayed for dessert, left a bigger tip, but it didn't take us long to know that we were done. I would not recommend this place for a special occasion. I personally will be looking at other places before I consider coming back here.
Justin, we checked with the server and he said you guys were acting as if you wanted to have a romantic evening and he had the impression that you were annoyed each time he came by. -Troy
This is a really good restaurant. My wife and I had an anniversary dinner here, sitting outside on the patio is excellent. The food is excellent, the service is great, and the decor is Beautiful. The only downside is that the restaurant is not located on a main pedestrian area, so it doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic. Hopefully with some marketing, the place will get more patrons. Excellent location for a great dinner!
This restaurant had a very "lonely" feel. The space is huge, not what one expects in a bistro. We were there on a Saturday night and it wasn't very crowded. Service was okay, although there was a mix-up with our order which resulted in a delay. Subsequently, the staff tried to make things right by bringing us bread and by insisting we have dessert on the restaurant. Food was okay; nothing extraordinary. And certainly not bistro fare. The others in our party liked their food better than I did. There are other better French restaurants in Alexandria.
Excellent!! Food, service, and experience — all top notch!! It is like having dinner in Paris without having to fly there!
