Bistro Romano Ratings and Reviews
WOW....I went to yelp to find an authentic Italian restaurant for a group of 16 (ended up with 9). We had reservations for 8:15 ( note if you have a large group the seating times are 5:15 or 8:15 and later because this is not a huge venue). We arrived on time, but were seated about 30 minutes late. In their defense it was the first snow of the season, traffic was heavy and groups were showing up late. Chris and George the managers apologized and even sent us complimentary appetizers while we waited. The bar area is small 10-15 seats max but sitting there looking at this huge wooden sculpture (imported from somewhere in the US) was awe inspiring. This building was built in the 17th century as one of Philadelphia’s original granaries. The ambiance is wonderful. We descended down the old curvy staircase where we were seated in the wine cellar.
The menu is an excellent variety from antipasti to their homemade pasta and desserts.
When making reservations for a large party there is always the concern it won’t live up to some expectations but in this case I was off the hook because EVERYONE loved it. I can’t say enough about Bistro Romano so please go visit it yourself. You will not be sorry!!
The special occasion was a father/daughter date and I was looking for great food and a nice ambiance, as well as vegetarian options for my daughter. Bistro Romano delivered on all of that. And the staff was very attentive and personable. Plus we arrived early and were seated immediately, which worked out well since we could enjoy our dinner without rushing out to part two of our date, a performance by Andrea Bocelli. Bistro Romano was well worth the drive and was a great beginning to a wonderful evening.
service was great, very attentive they even asked if we had any food allergies, which usually restaurants don't ask that. wine selection is amazing, and food is cooked by order so it is very fresh and tasty. very romantic and quiet place. overall great atmosphere and would definitely recommend to anyone.
Phenomenal experience. Supreme food and superb service. We happened to be seated adjacent to a 20 person party, which was loud but acceptable, and without being prompted the staff asked if we'd like to relocate downstairs. Couldn't have been more pleased with the evening.
Our favorite part of the restaurant was the ambiance. The lighting and feeling of being in an old wine cellar is charming and was a perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. The food was very good and we especially loved the calamari. We will definitely come back and have already recommended this place to our friends.
A beautifully decorated restaurant with exposed brick and stone walls. Unique space. Lighting that makes everyone look good. The wait staff was attentive and with personality. The food was wonderful and the portions were just right. Our waiter did forget to tell us about the specials, but other than that, we loved it and will be back.
Really disappointed by this place. Had a reservation but weren’t seated immediately. Our server was really pushy. We ordered a wine flight to start and ordered our entrees. Not even 5 minutes after receiving our wine flight and bread, our entrees came out. We had maybe been seated for 10 minutes, we just felt very rushed and almost like they were trying to get us out of there as quickly as possible. Entrees were mediocre, I’ve had way better Italian food in the city. We asked the server for the dessert menu and not 30 seconds later he came back asking what we wanted. We literally had to tell him to come back in 20 minutes so we can enjoy ourselves and drink our wine. Awkwardly enough, another server came over and took care of us for the rest of the time we were there. I won’t be returning.
The food was super. The shrimp risotto that came with the scallops was truly outstanding, as were the brussel sprouts (with these pickled golden raisins). Delicious. Filet was cooked perfectly. My friend asked for the gnocchi with a different sauce. No problem and the gnocchi was velvety and amazing. As you can tell, we all shared because it was so good. Didn't love the calamari, but that was about it. Prices were reasonable for upscale Italian. The environment is really interesting, like phantom of the opera: all brick, stone, candles, and velvet curtains. Our booth, however, was a bit small - and we are normal sized women. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend.
My husband and I dined at Bistro Romano for our 2nd wedding anniversary. The table was quiet and private, the ambiance was amazing, the menu and service were exceptional. If you go, save room for dessert and try the Hazelnut Semi-fredo, it is absolutely delectable. I would definitely return, there are so many other menu items that I would love to try. Highly recommend this restaurant for a small group or special occasion.
It was our first time and I'm glad I chose this spot for my date. We were seated promptly at a candle lit table, the ambiance was romantic. The food, staff and the service was great. There definitely was some noise but that helped in only adding spirit to the spot and nothing bad. Highly recommend it for a date. Would definitely come back again.
What a great meal start to finish. My wife and we're celebrating and chose Bistro Romano and it was excellent on all marks. Very attentive servers, a seriously wide wine selection and spot on dishes. Get the table side Caesar too. Wonderful to have one created that way as you watch. Just fabulous and a very romantic and cozy downstairs.
I made a reservation here for my boyfriend’s birthday. We were seated almost immediately. I ordered the lobster ravioli and my boyfriend ordered the veal. They were absolutely AMAZING! The atmosphere was gorgeous, as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special night out!
We went here yesterday for our 7 year anniversary for an early dinner. Our table was decorated with rose petals upon arriving. We each had the Caesar salad and for $10 a person, it was not as great as we had hoped it would be. It seemed like a lot of the reviews talked so highly of it , which is why we tried it, but we were not that impressed. Portion sizes were okay, we didn't have any leftovers. We also got the red and white wine flights. Very delicious. For dessert, we had the chocolate torte. Just okay. However, I don't think it was mixed/beaten well (maybe the eggs/oil) because there were hard parts throughout the dessert. Service was great and didn't feel rushed throughout the night.
