Bistro Romano Ratings and Reviews
Just returned from an anniversary weekend to Old City, Philly. Found reviews for this restaurant and thought it had what my wife and I liked. This place lived up to, and exceeded the posted reviews. We arrived 15 min early for res, so we took a seat at the bar. Very personable bartender. Our table was ready in short order. We were seated and tended to immediately. We started with a crab spread and toast. Delicious! Not too salty, very creamy, and the crab was fresh. My wife ordered scallops over risotto. Tender, mild scallops without any of the iodine taste evident in many scallop dishes. I had the veal saltimbocca. Tender filets with prosciutto, cheese and diced tomato. A wine demiglaze topped it off. Tasty, and properly balanced accompanied by whipped potatoes. A very well done dish. We enjoyed a side of broccoli rabe with red peppers. Fresh, vibrant, and not bitter. For dessert, which we took to go, we had a creamy cannoli, and said my wife, “the best tiramisu I’ve ever tasted.”
The staff were professional, courteous, and properly attentive.
Whenever we make a return trip to Philly, we will revisit this fine spot to sample more of the menu.
I have been to this restaurant numerous times over many years, never had a bad meal. Recently updated the menu, we the roasted beets and mussels as appetizers, the Bordetto and the Tagliatelle with truffles as our entrees all was very good. Great wine list with affordable prices.
Sadly, this time --and we've been there many times -- Bistro Romano really disappointed. The special pasta with black truffles was glue-like and the truffles were hard, dry slices of it-might-as-well-have-been-shoe-leather. Even the classic caesar was lack luster. The two other entrees were fine, but nothing to rave about. Missing from the menu was the white lake fish that is usually so good, and one of our party's favorites.
Too rushed but it was New Year’s Eve! We waited 45 minutes even though we had a reservation! Food overall was very good but, for example, holiday menu included “scallops” (plural) as an appetizer and we literally were served one (1) scallop each...that is “scallop” (singular) where I come from (haha). We will go again but not on a holiday!
Our server was very attentive. The food was great. We had the 5 course New Yesrs Eve prefix menu. We wanted the N.Y. strip steak so spent a little extra for it. Every course was fabulous. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. This was our second time visiting and we will be back.
This is my 3rd. New Years Eve celebration dinner at Bistro. I was surprised by the long wait for food and the small portions. I realize it was a "price fixe" menu, but was still somewhat surprised. I've been to Bistro for dinner on about 8 previous occasions; the food was plentiful and the service was excellent. I was a little disappointed this visit.
My boyfriend and I were visiting Philly for the weekend and we wanted a good quality but still reasonably priced restaurant for Saturday night dinner. Bistro Romano exceeded our expectations.
The food was delicious (chicken Milanese for me, salmon for him).
The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was perfect for a cold winter night. We were seated in the lower level, and the romantic lighting, brick walls, and back corner booth made us feel instantly warmed.
I'd absolutely return to Bistro Romano, and would quickly and eagerly recommend it to anyone visiting Philly.
Went here for my birthday and it was awesome! The food here is always great. The ambiance it very romantic and cozy, but it's also a great place to go to dinner with friends. The service here is excellent and everyone is very friendly. Can’t say enough good thins about this place. Sign up for their notices and you will get emails on special meals, wine tastings, etc.
My boyfriend and I went to Bistro Romano for our anniversary, and i.t was the perfect place! They had rose petals on our table. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was so genuine. All the people who came to our table asked how everything was and also wished us a happy anniversary! I loved this place so much and i will definetly be going back!
The food was fantastic as usual however this night was particularly odd with the lack of service. We a 7:45 reservation and were seated at 8:40... almost an hour later. Our server was very rude, didn’t greet and simply said “what are you having” at his first greet to the table. Having been a server myself I understand being in the weeds but there is no excuse for such rudeness! Giving him the benefit of the doubt we continued with our meal but even after the restaurant slowed down his attitude remained cold. Although he tried to act kind as he dropped off the check (forgot to remove the item he forgot they were out of- didn’t notify us until 20 mins after we ordered it) it was still a memorable bad service evening. Bravo to the chef- no kudos to the server. Shame.
WOW....I went to yelp to find an authentic Italian restaurant for a group of 16 (ended up with 9). We had reservations for 8:15 ( note if you have a large group the seating times are 5:15 or 8:15 and later because this is not a huge venue). We arrived on time, but were seated about 30 minutes late. In their defense it was the first snow of the season, traffic was heavy and groups were showing up late. Chris and George the managers apologized and even sent us complimentary appetizers while we waited. The bar area is small 10-15 seats max but sitting there looking at this huge wooden sculpture (imported from somewhere in the US) was awe inspiring. This building was built in the 17th century as one of Philadelphia’s original granaries. The ambiance is wonderful. We descended down the old curvy staircase where we were seated in the wine cellar.
The menu is an excellent variety from antipasti to their homemade pasta and desserts.
When making reservations for a large party there is always the concern it won’t live up to some expectations but in this case I was off the hook because EVERYONE loved it. I can’t say enough about Bistro Romano so please go visit it yourself. You will not be sorry!!
