Great piano player in the bar, nice to hear live music. Extensive wine list, knowledgeable staff. We came in after a movie for a drink and a bite. Split the NY strip (was plenty enough for 2.) and assorted other appetizers. Overall, a great place with a low key chill vibe which was great for date night.
This is the second time at Bistro Romano and we brought A few friends with us this time. I was disappointed with the ambiance upstairs. Last time we sat downstairs and it’s just amazing there. Before they sat us upstairs, we did ask if we could be placed downstairs (reservation was 9pm) Answer was no, there is no seating for 6 people on the other levels and that we wouldn’t be disappointed. Well, we really were. They sat us upstairs right in front of a keyboard and bass player and music was a bit too loud since we were so close. Now, don’t get me wrong, food is sooooo good. Gnocchi is the best. Brussels sprouts and calamari are really good too. The Veal saltimbocca was way too salty, I couldn’t even eat it. But a spoon full of tiramisu just reminds me of why we will be back. It’s so good. The carrot cake is so moist and not too sweet either. Love this place but make sure you call and sit downstairs. Where you sit really does make a difference.
Very pretty place, great food, good service.
This was the perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious. Service was great. Will definitely go back again!
Great food, great atmosphere upstairs and the staff was very friendly.
he desserts were marvelous, and the drinks good. I just didn't enjoy my lobster ravioli-- rather than creamy, the sauce was very watery, essentially a seafood broth rather than a sauce. Not what I was expecting. My companion had the truffle pasta, which was very tasty. All in all, it was a good experience and I enjoyed the atmosphere, but next time I would choose another Italian restaurant where the entrees were without a doubt a hit (and likely less expensive).
We sat near the piano by the bar, the music and food were great.
It was amazing ! Good good and a great vibe for any kind of occasion
Food was excellent but service was absolutely terrible. We arrived on time and checked in for our 8:30 reservation and was told it would be “a few minutes”. We then waited patiently as 3 other parties arrived after us also with 8:30 reservations and were seated before us. After saying something to the hostess, he told us he’d “bump us up”. Finally after being seated, our server was also not good at all. We had to ask her if we could order drinks. She never checked on us after our food was served by another server, nor did she ever ask if we wanted any more drinks after we finished our first one. The environment was nice except for the noise level, the food was really good, but the service couldn’t have been much worse. Sadly I don’t think we’ll be returning.
Excellent dinner and service! We did the five course meal with wine pairing.
My husband and I have been dining at Bistro Romano since it opened about 30 years ago. We have always had a wonderful experience and meal. Last night was another story. We were seated at a table in a very busy area positioned practically beneath the stairwell. At the table, an overhead lamp swung inches away my face from the ceiling. We tried to center the table under the lamp, but was unable to move the heavy bench seats. Oh well. The menu was very limited making it difficult to make a choice. My husband ordered the roast pork loin which was served over extremely watery mashed potatoes. They were so thin, he had to eat the them with spoon. I ordered a seafood stew which was very good. To cap off our night, we got hit with a $25 parking fee. We were parked in the lot a mere 1 hour and 20 minutes. I would chalk this experience up to maybe the restaurant was having a bad night, but my sister ate at Bistro the night before and also didn't have a good experience (I was aware of this only after our visit). I'm writing this review because I would like my old Bistro Romano back!
Server was not well informed or able to give good descriptions about the menu items we were questioning. 3 of our guests were served entrees and the 4 th entree didn’t come as indicated by the expediter. When the server finally came to check on us we informed her we were still missing an entree. She left to check on the order but it was the manager who had to get the order from the kitchen and bring it out. Everyone else had finished their dinner before we got the last entree.
We proceeded to order coffee and desserts despite the untimely service. All the food was very good. At then end of the meal the server brought us complimentary lemon cello even though one guest wasn’t drinking alcohol. The limoncello was on the bill then deducted as if we had ordered and were comped. But there was no comp for the entree mess up or even a dessert or coffee comped for the inconvenience. I consider this lack of prudent judgement on both manager and server.
In addition the fact that their policy is to charge $25 per guest for any one in the party that can’t make the reservation , is also quite stringent . Since you must lock in confirmation 48 hours in advance .
The service We experienced will prevent us from going back to Bistro Romano . There are just too many very good restaurants with welcoming hospitality in the area.
Thank you for taking the time to speak personally regarding your recent visit; again our apologies the service fell short and you were disappointed, as were we. At Bistro Romano we strive to exceed the expectations of our guests. Delighted you will give us another chance; we look forward to your return. Team BR.
Terrific experience. I’m picky about Italian food but I found it very good. The piano music was a nice touch too. Very friendly waitress. The restaurant was ten minutes late to seat us but gave us each a flute of champagne which more than made up for it.
Server was amazing and very accommodating! The atmosphere was amazing!
The ravioli were perfectly cooked, but the short ribs were a little too ground up. Also, would love to see Portobello Parmigiana added back to the menu!
I have been coming to Bistro Romano for 17 years and have never been upstairs; or to a Cellar Club Chefs Dinner. What the hell was I doing. This was the perfect pairing of food and wine I have ever had. Delicious just delicious. The service was excellent, Keish and Rachel were great. And the wine's are excellent.
Thank you for letting me know about this, it just took 17 years.
Excellent service very attentive
I ask Chef for a simple off the menu pasta 🍝 with oil and garlic aglio e olio what can I say awful 😞 fettuccine sit in a puddle of oil
I Oder the snapper also Over done
Ambiance was spectacular Caesar salad was sublime and the homemade bread and tomatoes dip sauce also delicious
The food was just ok. The prices were fair and reasonable but I’ve had better tasting food. They ran out of one of the items on the menu that I wanted to try. And while dinning in the wine cellar is intriguing it was a bit drafty. My waiter was top notch and really gave me a feel of the menu selections. Too bad I didn’t personally enjoy his recommendation.
Great location we walked from Penns Landing. Food was delicious. Loved the piano. Service great.
I had the BLACK PEPPER MACARONI with pancetta, sausage, pecorino cream, onion crumble off the regular menu. It's always a good call. Definitely delicious.
The decor and ambience was amazing and gave off great vibes. The food and service was outstanding.
I had a wonderful night! The server was very attentive and she made sure that food did not have peanuts or any tree nuts per my allergy note. The ambiance is romantic, warm and inviting. The portions were just right and they have a great wine selection. I would definitely come back next time I'm in Philly.
We were served a dish that had nuts inspite of mentioning nut allergy for the table atleast 3 times. Even after the dish was served we confirmed and after being told there were no nuts.. My son had an allergic reaction and one of the sauces had almonds in it. It looks like this restaurant does not pay attention to life threatening allergies. We are very disappointed since we were there to celebrate 21st birthday of our son and it ended as a bitter experience. Restaurants should pay attention to the allergies mentioned by customers. It is life threatening!!!!
Birthday dinner for wife. Food was incredible and service went over and beyond. Highly recommend for special occasion.
Had the Roasted Beef Braciole, stuffed with mushrooms and ricotta cheese; with bell peppers, onions, collard greens, tomato. Definitely delicious. It was perfect for a autumn night.
Always a great place. Been a ton of times and will continue to go.
I had the Sweet Potato and Goat Cheese Pansotti with mortadella, pistachio, and leeks. The ravioli are sweet, soft and rich in flavor. The sauce was buttery with a little pop of salt and meatiness from the mortadella. This sauce would do well on a chicken or veal cutlet. Delicious.
The person I was having dinner with had the BRAISED VEAL OSSOBUCO with soft polenta, broccoli rabe, wild rice gremolata, she loved it. You have a winner with this plating. Excellent service and excellent meals, thank you.
Beautiful historic building with a great atmosphere
The food was excellent, I had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. The services was top notch from the door to you leave the restaurant, they make sure you obtain the best service. The ambience it’s perfect and the restaurant it’s beautiful.
The atmosphere and theme was superb. The restaurant opened into a wine cellar that was a very intimate space. The service was equiste and the menu was very creative. The bread served was extremely soft and airy. I will definitely come back again.
Great food and service.
Portions are great!
Food was delicious!!! Ambiance was really nice. Great value foe the $! Will definitely be going back
Fabulous food and service!
A very nice restaurant that overall did a great job. The appetizer, grilled octopus, was delicious as were the fingerling potatoes that accompanied it . The Caesar salads were a bit overdressed but, the leaves were crisp and fresh. My wife had grilled wahoo and it was moist and cooked perfectly. I had the veal ossobuco and it was fork tender and came off the bone with ease. The polenta was a tad creamy , however, I ate it all…….very smooth texture. The wine list is extensive and well thought out. We drank a 2017 Valpolicella Ripasso that was perfect for the veal as well as the wahoo. The dessert of cannoli was flavorful with good ricotta and chocolate chips. We also had a bowl of gelato, chocolate and vanilla, that was not up to my standard for gelato. I thought the vanilla was too soupy and the chocolate was almost freezer hardened. The atmosphere, ambiance and service were excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will return for a future dining event.
Excellent. Love the gluten free menu. Our server, Brianna was first class. As usual, we'll be back.
We were seated without waiting. Exposed brick surrounding creates very authentic ambiance. Our server Kishore was very helpful with great recommendations. He was very funny also. Service was outstanding. We had 5 appetizers, 3 sides and 6 main dishes as well as three deserts. Food was amazing. Wine selection is very good and cocktail drinks were amazing. All 8 of us had fun celebrating a very special birthday. We would go back in a heartbeat.
The food was great. The service was amazing. And the restaurant itself was warm and welcoming. The prices were a little high, but I'm told to expect that in Philly. In addition, they even offered to call our cab for us when we were finished. I would certainly recommend the Bistro Romano - but, be sure to book your reservation!
We had a terrific time. Excellent restaurant, terrific waiter, and great food. You made my wife’s birthday a special one! Thank you.
We couldn’t have asked for a better meal, service, or ambiance. We were celebrating our anniversary and we were given a complementary glass of champagne on the house which was so unnecessary but so nice!! Our server was amazing and so knowledgeable. We’ll be back over and over.
