Bistro Milano Ratings and Reviews
I have visited this restaurant on previous visits to the city but was disappointed this time around. The bread (which is typically a highlight along with the olive oil and balsamic) tasted old and stale, it was not even moist. I'm not sure if prices have increased, but I thought $12 for a small side of pasta was expensive. On the upside, the Chicken Parmesan was very large.
We have dined at Bistro Milano several times before a show at City Center and each time has been excellent. The service here is outstanding. The pastas, which we shared as an appetizer, are particularly good, and our party all had fish which was perfectly prepared. The mixed cheese and meat board was an excellent starter. A great wine list as well.
Bistro Milano is our neighborhood restaurant. We have found the food to be consistently good and the service to be friendly, welcoming and efficient. I can't say enough positive things about the waiters. They all understand the lost art of customer service. We are particularly fond of one of the more gregarious waiters, who goes by the name, Ben Hur. Pasta, pizza, fish, veal, all have been well prepared and delicious. The wine list is good and mixed drinks are near perfect. If you are seeing something at City Center, Bistro Milano is only a half a block away.
- We arrived early and were seated immediately
- the restaurant itself is beautiful and had a wonderful ambiance.
- I requested champagne on my reservation. The hostess confirmed the request when we were seated but the champagne never came
- We were given bread but no plates for the oil and balsamic vinegar. We had to request plates.
- Our server seemed to be unfamiliar with the menu. We tried to order the 3 cheese + 3 meat board from the menu and he was confused by this item so it took some effort to explain what he wanted. The cheeses were cold when we received them.
- the restaurant is very busy I the evening and the hostess seemed overwhelmed. We had to interrupt her to receive our coats from coat check.
Fabulous as always, please chef new menu, however we understand the
pumpkin ravioli is coming back, Service is always exceptional friendly I’ll Beyonce is wonderful… Pasta always delicious! My has been and I always make sure we Go to Bistro Milano when we come to New York City....
I love it when a waiter is SO enthusiastic about the wine and food that he really makes you excited about it, too as a diner. It's rare. But it happened for us at Bistro Milano and the wine he recommended WAS superb. He made our business dinner into a special occasion!
Food was truly excellent. Ambiance equally good. Our waiter was preoccupied with a large party and basically absent. Unacceptable and he was unapologetic. So primary service was terrible. However, the hostess came to the rescue. She was fantastic! She immediately understood the issue and completely stepped in. She was a gem. She compensated for the waiter’s absence and saved the day. In spite of the waiter’s failure, we had a good experience. Gratitude to the hostess—all class and understanding.
Beautifully cooked food, imaginatively presented. Tables outside were a little too close together but I guess that is just NYC. No view except of a busy street will attendant noise etc. Great waitstaff and service. I would go back but sit inside next time. We stood at the hostess podium too long before anyone came to help us. Waiters past by and did not acknowledge us, thus creating a negative first impression.
We had wanted to try Bistro Milano for some time, as it is close to our NY hotel. A late September warm night, and we were able to sit outside which made for a perfect experience. We were fortunate to have Ben-Hur as our server, who was fantastic; both knowledgeable and entertaining, while providing excellent service. The papparadelle (split for two) was wonderful, perfectly cooked and served hot, as it should be. Both the Vitello Milanese and the lamb chops were delicious, though we would have preferred something other than the caponata along with the lamb. The arugula salad along with the veal was traditional and perfect. All in all, it’s an expensive evening, but enjoyable and worth the splurge.
This was our second visit to Bistro this trip and it didn't disappoint. Even though we didn't get our favorite waiter Ben-hur. The capresi is excellent and can be shared! All the pasta's are terrific. We have be going here for over two years when we visit the city. You can eat outside which is a little noisy or inside.
We had dinner on August 12 and selected the restaurant for the outside seating since the weather was nice. It exceeded our expectations. The food was good and the service was exceptional. Most importantly, the server suggested one of the better Italian reds I had for long time. It was expensive but was worth it for sure. I'll go again next time I'm in NYC.
Ben Hur (yes, that's actually his name) is my favorite waiter in New York and he makes every meal at Bistro Milano a treat. And it was great to be able to sit outdoors this time -- right between the air-conditioned interior and the sidewalk area, very comfortable and a little less noise. (The only drawback of Bistro Milano is that the room is full of hard surfaces, so it can get loud when busy.) Super, friendly service and Open Table worked perfectly as usual. Thanks.
We chose indoor seating which proved to be comfortable without the traffic noise and exhaust of the street. The food was very good but we were bothered by fruit flies, two of which found their way into my wine. After the second fly I called our waiter who promptly exchanged my wine for a fresh glass. This was a return visit to Bistro Milano because I had been impressed by the prix fixe lunch I enjoyed there last year. Both times I was in NY to see a Broadway show.
Fantastic service and I got a delicious gluten free pasta. When I asked if I could get some mushrooms on the side for it they immediately brought them. Waitress was attentive but not pushy at all. Great experience and highly recommend it. They have a late lunch menu that is wonderful and well priced.
