This quiet bistro is ideal for friends who wish to talk and catch up. Our server was very helpful with answers and meaningful suggestions. We each ordered different entrees to share the experience. Our selections were prepared perfectly with creative flavor pallets. A hush fell over the table as we savored each bite. I can easily say it was one of the finest meals I have enjoyed. I highly recommend Bistro Menil.
I made a reservation for 6 well in advance and confirmed it. I arrived early. Still we waited while they shoved two tables together practically in the front hall to accommodate us. It was very noisy, and hard to overcome the unpleasantness of the poor welcome.
Food was awesome! Servers were friendly and knowledgeable just a bit slow in service. Would highly recommend. Just know they only serve beer and wine, but those selections are good.
Food was exceptional
Bistro Menil was a perfect pre concert restaurant for our group of 7. The food was delicious and the menu provided great options for all. The daily special of Spanish pork was a delightful surprise.
Great service , fresh food
Birthday dinner
Fabulous food and and friendly service - we love this place
Afternoon Tea: Dessert portions were too large. Would prefer more variety instead of 2 chocolate desserts. Disappointed in the walnut bread sandwich.
Love Bistro Menil! Amazing food in the perfect setting!
The services was ok not very attentive. Took a while for the waiter to get our drinks. But the food was great. I love the location very quiet and peaceful.
What a wonderful experience celebrating a birthday. The room is beautiful. The staff attentive and knowlegdable. We had the pleasure of speaking with Chef Greg throughout the meal, adding to the special occasion. And beyond the the deliciousness of the food, 95% of the menu options were gluten free making ordering a lot easier for those of us with dietary issues. Can't wait to go back!
Saturday date with wife.
Bistro Menil is a jewel. Don't tell anyone else, or it will become too crowded.
Celebrated mutual birthdays with a friend. The food was so tasty! (The eggplant fries are what foodie dreams are made of.) Lots of choices for diners with food allergies. Server let us linger over our meal without hurrying us out the door. Lovely place to kick off a birthday!
Great place! Excellent location and no wait. Service was fantastic!
The foods were absolutely delicious.
Only one complain was our waiter wasn’t well service.
This was not my first meal at Bistro Menil, nor will it be my last. The food and the setting was a delightful experience.
But, I was not too happy with the service. I had two foreign friends with me as I was hoping to show them some great food before visiting the Museum. We asked for the wine list, as opposed to wine by the glass, and the waiter appeared put off by this request. My friend chose the wine, he brought it, served, etc.
Once we received our meals, our glasses were refilled, both water and wine.
Our food was served in reasonable time. But, with still half of our food on our plates, bus boys and waiter continually asked if we were finished and could they take it away. This was a Sunday brunch, not a quick lunch. Friends from other countries do not like to be rushed through their meals. We were on the patio because it was a beautiful day, but we could see through the window a completely empty dining room as well as empty tables still outside, so it wasn't due to overcrowding. I made reservations just for this reason. On the reservation site it showed the average time spent at the restaurant at this hour was an hour and a half. That is just about the time we finally ended up spending there, but with more than five suggestions that we should finish up.
Houston is a very international city. I would suggest that your servers learn a little more about dining habits of the world.
Nice restaurant. Minimalist style with friendly service and good food.
We liked being able to choose just the right type and quantity of wine from the cask menu. More restaurants should offer that. The 12-hour cooked short ribs were amazing, and the choice of sides included with all entrees was really a nice feature. The restaurant can be quite noisy when crowded, but this Sunday night it was pretty quiet. What a pleasure!
Unfortunately the restaurant uses soy based oil which precludes those who has soy allergies.
Delicious high tea, however for the price I would expect our hot water to be checked more consistently
Ladies for lunch
This is a very nice place that has done wonders by responding to the complaints about the extreme noise level when it was new, It is, however, too expensive. $106 for my sister and me, crab salad and lamb chops.
Classic ladies lunch spot. Menu tends to light, flavorful items, and the setting is cosmopolitan.
I took my friend for high tea as I had a gift certificate that I received for my birthday and I shared it with my friend for her birthday. Together we thoroughly enjoyed the tea selections which were unique, as well as the finger sandwiches and desserts. My only critique would be that the desserts were a little bit large and I would’ve preferred the tea to be a little heavier on the savory side. The ambience was OK unfortunately there was a table Next to us with tons of kids but they left soon enough. Wish Houston had more adults only places.
Great place for brunch. There is great variety and choice. Food wonderful.
Enjoyed a peaceful, delicious and healthy lunch. Service was great and we were not rushed as we were visiting and catching up with one another. Plan on returning soon.
We eat here regularly. It's our go-to restaurant. My only tiny complaint this visit was that the appetizer was brought at the same time as the meal...so a mix up somewhere. But the food was AWESOME - as always! We just love everything about the restaurant, how it looks, where it is, the food, the service. We will be back soon I'm sure!
So good that we went TWICE in 10 days! Nice atmosphere for a friendly dinner and conversation which you can't have at many restaurants in Houston because they are too noisy and the music is too loud. Not the same here! You can hear the people cross the table from you and enjoy their company!!!
Chef Greg and his team consistently deliver - crafted food, great service and sophisticated yet approachable design.
Teeny tiny portions of food. I suppose that’s the art part though, right?
Ridiculously overpriced convenient location but ultimately not satisfactory
Great for lunch with friends! Pretty setting and so intimate.
good food...
great location...
nice place...
all good...!!!
The Bistro is a very comfortable place to meet with your friends and enjoy an evening of drinks and food. We went after watching a film competition at MFAH. We were able to discuss the films that we saw and we COULD ACTUALLY HEAR EACH OTHER. At many restaurants in Houston the ambience music is so loud that you cannot enjoy your companionship. Thank you, Bistro Menil. We will return!
Sort of on the fence here. The food was good, but the portions (at least for the dinner salads) were quite small. Our waiter advised us that the salad portions were certainly large enough. They were not. Service was only fair as the bread arrived with the coffee and dessert.
Excelent food! We went for a late brunch. All items in the menu were really tempting but because of the hour we ended up ordering from the lunch menu. The quiche and the crepes were delicious and perfect! The Tuscan lemon-almond torte was equally delicious. Very polite staff. Definitely a place to recommend! and we definitely will go back in a future trip to Houston
Dinner for four. Close friends. They loved it! It's one of our favorites as well. That's why we invited them. The food is excellent. And the timing of the service gave plenty of time to talk and catch up. Wonderful atmosphere. Bring a sweater!
This was a lovely experience. My first time at Bistro Menil. I loved the ambiance. The service was impeccable and the food was perfect. My friend and I are looking forward to returning soon. Thank you!
