About this restaurant

Bistro Les Chats, re-opened in November 2015 after a brief closure, is an independently owned bistro known for the quality of its food and its friendly and informal service and atmosphere. The menu is contemporary European with French, British, Italian and Spanish influences. In addition to the full (à la carte) menu, we offer 3 four-course menus, a fixed price lunch menu and, on weekdays, an express lunch menu. A carefully chosen wine selection and range of European beers and ciders complements the menu.

All dishes are made on the premises using local supplies where available. Free range meat and vegetables come mainly from Wiltshire farms; eggs are free range and organic from Purton House, Swindon. Fish comes fresh daily, mainly from Cornwall, some from Scotland. Local and continental cheeses are featured. Menus change regularly to reflect the seasons. All desserts and pastries are made on the premises. Celebration gateaux available by advance request.

It was so lovely to be back at Les Chats, and to be able to bring two foodie friends from further afield who have been longing to see what we rave about! For starters our friends enjoyed the crispy egg which was very cleve. While we enjoyed the lightest ravioli with a beetroot sauce. The Onglet was as wonderful as ever; we highly recommend having with the yummy dauphinoise potatoes, unless you are frites fanatics! My husband had the baked apple crumble with gingerbread ice-cream which he declared the best!

We love coming back to this place, so glad it didn't close. Food is great, service is excellent without being too invasive and it's such a great place to eat. Probably better for a couple on special occasion

From the menus we chose the alacarte and two courses. The scallops we had to start were plump, juicy and perfectly cooked. The main courses were also cooked to perfection and well seasoned as were the accompaniments. I chose a glass of house red wine which was very palatable. A quality wine! We also liked the service so will be returning soon.

I booked a table for 2 for my husband's Birthday and we both agreed it was possibly the most delicious meal we've had in a long time (and we both love our food). We ordered 3 courses from the new a la carte menu and we couldn't find fault with any of it. I would recommend the scallop starter (melt in the mouth) and the ox-cheek main (so rich and soft, cooked to perfection) - I would eat it every day if I could. Some may think it's expensive for the size, but the quality of the food is so good and you wouldn't want any more on your plate or you wouldn't comfortably fit in a pud (which is worth it). I loved it before bit now they've re-send it's even better. The service was excellent too - I am 6 months pregnant and the waitress gave me info on the food without me even having to ask. Very helpful and more places could learn from this. Go there, you won't regret it :)

We went to Bistro les Chats for a family lunch, it was a Saturday so the Full menu was available which was quite extensive. Everyone had questions regarding different dishes and the waitress had superb knowledge of every choice and was very attentive. The food was outstanding and the service excellent. A most enjoyable time was had by all.

The Bistro has re-opened and it is better than ever. It retains the same friendly, welcoming ambience. But the new team has clearly taken a brilliant thing and somehow made it shine brighter. The food has moved from superb French bistro to a more adventurous offering. Still great, fresh ingredients beautifully cooked but now coming from a wider repertoire. Already booked to go back and try the ones we didn't this time round. My advice, book now. Otherwise you may just be disappointed.

A lovely evening, in a fantastic little Bistro that I would recommend to all. Has been a family favourite restaurant for various occasions since its opening and will be sadly missed.
