We believe in offering friendly and competent service in relaxed, ambient surroundings. Situated in the slightly bohemian street of Gillygate, with the famous city wall bordering our picturesque tea garden, Bistro Guy is a secret hidden treasure of York. We want the café to be a relaxed environment where you can feel welcome just calling in for a coffee and a friendly face but feel equally relaxed ordering a sandwich or meal, be it alone or with friends, family, children or even the dog! We don’t want to be a formal restaurant, we just believe in offering quality home-cooked food in tranquil surroundings. We use Yorkshire produce where ever possible in our menu. Dogs are welcome in the garden; we’ll supply refreshments for them (on us). All we ask is, like the children, they are well behaved! We have a baby changing table and high chairs available on request and we cater for children. If you need to hold a meeting or party etc. just let us know.

Have been many times and really rate the food - service not good this evening however, one waiter and he only just coping! As said food did lovely but really found the 'helpings' of this Xmas menu tiny ...might be greedy but no bread and not enough vegetables.Will go again but will ask for extra if a small as this...

Had a fantastic meal at Bistro Guy for husbands birthday. Japanese Fusion is the theme of the food and all of it was delicious, fresh and very tasty. We both opted for 5 dishes which was filling enough and one dish was dessert.

Really nice team lunch (8 of us). I shared a house platter but others had mozzarella toasted sandwiches, & field mushrooms on toast with duck egg & salad. Our only complaint - could have done with a few more chips, but we're a greedy lot & could always do with more. Great service too - would definitely recommend

The quality of the food was fantastic.Lots of different flavours.we liked the fact that you could have more courses if you wanted.A good innovative chef.

We found Bistro Guy through open table, and we were over the moon with our evening. The menu was creative and delicious, with each of the 5 tasting plates as good as the last. The waiter was friendly and very helpful, and Guy himself was the same. There is a huge garden which you would never know was there from the front, which is perfect for summer cocktails in the sun! 5 star Would definitely recommend and return on our next visit
