Bistro du Marché by Tapenade
Diot's inspiration is Paris' bistronomic scene that combines simple local ingredients with culinary elegance and flavorful complexity.
Bistro du Marché brings guests to Paris with a vibrant art deco scene, including a gallery of photographs and art pieces that hail turn of the century Paris.
Conveniently located by the Farmer's Market on Girard Avenue, Chef Diot and his culinary team enjoy visits to the market, where they converse with farmers' representatives. After picking up ingredients from the market, Chef Diot and his team head back to the kitchen to play with hand-picked vegetables and other seasonal ingredients.
Please note that due to a limited seating, we do not take specific table requests. Furthermore, we kindly ask that reservations of over eight people be made via telephone.

This was our second visit in two weeks. Wonderful on both occasions. The duck and the mushroom ravioli were memorable and the service is professional and attentive. Very nice wine list.
We visit La Jolla once a year for a month stay and look forward to dining again at Bistro du Marché.
We regularly go here for a great dining experience.
My wife and I are huge fans of French food. Having been to almost all of the French restaurants here in San Diego this is the best we have had. My wife had the Duck with the lime gastrique and it was incredible. I had the Venison and it too was top of the line! Flavorful and tender. For dessert the creme burlee was the best we have had. Overall great place and we will be coming back!
We had an enjoyable evening - the food choices were great and we all seemed to have found what we really liked. The service was great - they were completely easy about splitting orders and that made it easier for those who just eat small amounts.
The place was full but it only added to the experience - it was nice to see so many people enjoying the food.
The best thing was it is so easy to park in front and just walk in.
Wonderful food. The bread for the table is delicious. Fresh cod with risotto was perfectly done. My husband had the duck breast which he said was perfection. And guests had the mushroom ravioli and halibut. Wine choices are as reasonably priced as most hotels and some interesting French wine choices. Only negative was noise level. It was packed and on a Saturday so a bit difficult to hear conversation.
Even though it was a Valentine’s Day, the staff and kitchen were able to address my special dietary needs, which was an unexpected and delightful surprise! This is a wonderful restaurant that I will continue to go back to frequently.
One of our favourite French restaurants in San Diego. Their mushroom ravioli is mouthwatering. Also amazing warm crusty french bread. Great place for a date. Cute bar area.
Our first visit. With my 19 y.o. son. He said the frites were the best ever and the steak was "better than Marine Room."
The moules were fat, juicy and tasty. The service fantastic with great beverage recommendations. The atmosphere is casual but very nice--patron in coats and t shirts. I can't believe I waited so long to try it.
Everything we had was delicious. I highly recommend the grilled octopus appetizer and the scallops!
Everything over the top perfect except unusually loud noise level last two visits. All noticed it. Remember when Tapenade put in acoustic cloud and improved that?
We all loved what we ordered. We arrived early enough so that it was easy to visit in the beginning, but as more people came, the noise level increased
Bistro du Marche is a warm and inviting bistro, with a menu that has unusual item choices, as with their fresh fish and it’s preparation. I love taking someone there for their first visit as I did this week. Their appetizer - pate, is always a first course with wine and drinks. I had the pheasant and my guest the fresh fish, which I had enjoyed T the bar earlier in the week. You won’t be disappointed.
It was restaurant week so it was busy. Everything was superb except our entrees arrived tepid. Wonderful service and food!
Unexpected to say the least. A top-notch french restaurant. It was a full house on the Sunday night. Very friendly staff. Our server was right on point with her recommendations. Could have ordered anything from the menu and it would have been outstanding. A very civilzed estalishment, medium in size. Just plain lovely in every respect. No need to look for French food anywhere else. This is it!
Food is very salty and not fresh. We ordered duck and veal. All taste terrible.
The food was really good. The service was great. I thought the tables were too close. I can hear conversations on either side perfectly well as they can ours as well. It made it very intimate to get to know your neighbor’s whether you want to or not.
The food was very good!
The service was a little slow, not sure if our waiter was new or what?
We will try it again.
Best French food in San Diego. We especially like the duck confit and the casoulette.
We did 4 Restaurant Week meals. B du M was clearly the best value.
We have eaten at the Bistro once or twice a year for the past few years This year was pretty bad. The mussels were hard and dry, the salad lacked vinegrete and the house rose served in a reused bottle was priced at $42. We are not going again.
I've now eaten at Bistro du Marche twice. Both times the food was excellent! The first time was at 6:30 on a weekend and the noise level prevented the six of us from conversation. The second time three of us went at 5:30 and the sound level was fine. The crab and mango salad was magnificent. Scallops, and pasta dish, and salmon were really excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for both special occasions and for any occasion.
So enjoyable - perfect in every way. I was in Baja at a very fine restaurant and there was a very drunk man who was claiming that this restaurant was as good as 'Tapanade'. We were all from San Diego and that was almost true.
My only comment is that the noise level is so "energetic," as you call it, that it is next to impossible to carry on a conversation. I am not going to make reservations on Friday evening ever again. Quiet conversation is absolutely impossible. I do like Sunday brunch, though.
The mushroom and ravioli appetizer is outstanding. Branzino, scallops and salmon were all excellent.
Excellent preparation of food-delivered timely. One of our favorite places.
Amazing food, wine and ambience. I will be back
Excellent food. Excellent service.Excellent attention to detail especially by owner.
We always dine at Bistro Du Marche! Such an exciting, happening restaurant. The food is superior; French classics with a light touch as appropriate. The atmosphere is like spending a relaxed, romantic evening in Paris at your favorite Bistro with Friends. Whether being greeted by Hadrian, waited on by Jessica or cozying up to the bar with mixologists Chris or Sammy, a night at Bistro makes life just a little bit better.
We make the trek from Carlsbad to La Jolla for dinner about four times a year. Lately it’s always to the Bistro. The food, wine, service and atmosphere are a cut above anywhere else in town.
The food is consistently very good. My favorite is the mussels special on Tuesday nights. Salmon and Caesar salad are some of my favorites. Staff is professional and attentive. Cozy ambiance.
I love the surrounding of this Bistro, it is nice, and live. The food is amazing, a perfect beets and goat cheese salad and the scallops, fresh and soft tender, served on a risotto and porcini were amazing. Am ready to come back anytime...
The food was great, the service excellent and the ambience, very good. It's just that the portions were so small that we went home hungry. We all ordered snapper It was great but it must have been 4 ounces and the vegetables with it, all too few.
Best French restaurant in San Diego. The duck confit was excellent and so were the desserts we tried. The fresh French bread is a great touch. Will definately return.
Best french restaurant in San Diego. I will give 6 start, outstanding food !!!
Food was average at best on New Years Eve. Very odd pre fix menu
Last year my wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at a San Diego restaurant that is frequently identified as the "Best Restaurant" in San Diego. It was excellent. This year we celebrated our anniversary at Bistro Du Marche. It was better. We were impressed with Bistro Du Marche's food, its ambience and, most of all, by the attentive service by every staff member with whom we interacted. (For example, the server who brought our bread noticed that the table wobbled and discreetly fixed it without being asked.) We have eaten in France many times while we lived in Europe. I would happily bring our French friends to Bistro Du Marche. In Michelin Guide terms, Bistro Du Marche should be considered a Bib Gourmand establishment; that is, "a restaurant that offers exceptional food at moderate prices".
Lovely restaurant, friendly staff. My husband loves duck confit and said it’s the best he’s ever had. The shrimp plancha appetizer was equally delicious. Great place for foodies! We’ll be going back.
