Bistro Chat Noir Ratings and Reviews
A great location for a very "New York" dinner on the east side. This is one of those non-trendy,
classic New York restaurants that offers a comfortable ambience and nicely prepared French food. The service was excellent; our salmon was perfectly prepared. Although very crowded
on a Saturday evening, the noise level permitted conversation, and the wait staff was very
willing to accommodate. There are some very good selections on the wine list that won't
break the dining budget. This restaurant is a welcome change from overly precious, and over priced cuisine found elsewhere.
Bistro Chat Noir is a lively, youthful, energetic bistro and yet, somehow, the noise level is sufficiently controlled to allow conversation to flow! The service is friendly, professional and dependable. The food was very good and the salmon particularly flavorful with a good texture. To me this is a classically French bistro. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the attractive and lively atmosphere. However, anyone with allergies should be cautious because though they apparently tried to keep me "safe," I suffered symptoms the following day. It is difficult to keep wine (sulfites) out of French bistro food!
Delightful spot intimate with interesting food preparations. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. If you have a birthday or special occasion they know how to help you celebrate in a fun but elegant way. I’d recommend this neighborhood find to anyone who enjoys great food. Let the staff recommend the champagne, you won’t be disappointed!
Charming Neighborhood Restaurant small butt with adequate room. Food was cooked perfectly and tasty. Everybody was friendly and welcoming. This will be a restaurant that the next time I come to New York I will look to return to. The only minor flaw was the souffle was delicious but a little over cooked and slightly dry but everything else was executed perfectly. It was a wonderful experience we look forward to having again
This was my first time in New York with a date..... He has been to Bistro Chat Noir before and he suggested this for our Sat night dinner...... I was very impressed our waiter, our food and our dinning experience was wonderful!
I would definitely come back and recommend Bistro Chat Noir to my friends in New York!

This is a wonderful find! I met my friend for a belated birthday lunch and we had a super time with expert and personal service and delicious food. Light, airy with table cloths and cloth napkins. I couldn't wrap my mind around a glass of rose for $18, but other than that it was a flawless experience. Will return.
We have dined at Bistro Chat Noir several times over past 8 years (brunch & dinner). Frequently, we are with our daughter who is now 7 years old. The servers are always so attentive and accommodating even with young dining companion!:) Our favorite waiter has such a great sense of humor there and makes us feel at home. Food -- Don't miss the Duck and Truffle Mac and Cheese! Also, Chocolate Souffle is worth the calorie splurge!
Although I had been to Chat Noir two dozen times for lunch, I had never attended dinner. I was thrilled to experience the same excellent food and service as I have had at lunch.
I did ask to move tables-- my friends were there before me--noting it was far too "cozy" for three. After a bit of hurried consultation all was well. Sometimes I think I need to say to the restaurant manager, man or woman, "Please, I don't want to make a scene, just show me the second table first."
Wait staff particularly charming
With all of the overpriced menus in NYC this one is really the most ridiculous. Thirty dollar pedestrian burger, $35 chicken salad, $17 for a cup of soup.!!!! The food has no artistry or creativity. Why these unbelievable prices for totally mediocre fare??? I understand that many restaurants in my fair city are expensive, not food that resembles that from a diner or perhaps ej's luncheonette makes this the LOWEST value restaurant than I have been to in 25 years of eating out in this city. Do not go here unless you wish to dump excess dollars for no reason.
Without exception a terrific, well run restaurant offering delicious, well prepared French bistro food. Within walking distance to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the lower end of Central Park. We have visited several times over the past 10 years and look forward to returning. This place is a worthwhile visit for those wishing to have a lovely meal with excellent service, in tasteful surroundings.
Charming atmosphere off of busy Madison Ave. delicious French fare - one of the best French onion soups in NYC! Staff is wonderful, friendly & helpful -especially Andreas who clearly loves his job and enjoys people. Definetly worth a visit, you won't regret it.
