We have been going to this restaurant since it opened several years ago and they have kept up the good work. Food is as good as ever and service is prompt and courteous. Good atmosphere too.
Seemed quiet and dull when we arrived, with few staff and slow service, but it improved as the staff got to know us and we tried the food, which was unusual and excellent - great souffles! Recommended as a peaceful, delicious corner of the Upper East Side.
the star of the menu is the pain perdu - french toast with fruit and creme fraiche. Outside tables are perfect on a quiet August Sunday in NYC
My friend and I had a delicious brunch at Bistro Chat Noir. The staff was extrememly accommodating and the ambience was lovely. The Bistro Chat Noir experience is a perfect balance of elegance and down-to-earth comfort. The service is attentive, and yet we never felt interrupted. The food is presented beautifully and is of the highest quality, and, is delicious! The menu is superb! I'm already looking forward to the next time I can visit! Merci bien, Bistro Chat Noir!
The restaurant is very nice the only thing is that it needs better air condition.
Very nice meal with friends. Noise level allowed for a lively conversation. The lemon sole melted in my mouth and the others were pleased with their entrees as well. Very nice Chardonnay from Sonoma. One of our favorite places to join friends for a lovely dining experience.
Lovely, high-end neighborhood restaurant with good food and excellent service.
Very pleasant lunch, no missteps by servers or chef
Great food and service. Highly recommended.
The cuisine is wonderful....but the noise level continues to make conversation difficult. Surely, there is some way to add fabric to the room to capture and muffle the sound.
There is NO BRUNCH ON SATURDAY, only on sunday !!!
A nice, cozy "très French" place to have brunch, lunch or dinner. The food is authentic and tasty, the service helpful and very friendly and the atmosphere romantic and inviting. As the French would say "un bistro sympa".
I took my mother here for her birthday dinner after seeing a show and it was lovely. The service was perfect and we never felt rushed--one can tell the staff is very well trained to be attentive but keep their distance when necessary and let you enjoy your time. It was small enough of a restaurant that it never got too loud. I definitely would recommend this place for other lovers of French cuisine!
As usual, Bistro Chat Noir was " purfect, purfect, purfect" said our kitty Cleopatra.
It always a delight to eat at this small neigborhood gem. The staff are all incredibly friendly and accomodating...it's like coming home! The food is lovely and the location is terrific.
The food was very good, particularly the salmon, which was perfectly cooked. As we were going to a concert afterward, we were pleased that our food was brought in a timely manner. We did not feel rushed however and the chocolate souffle was a delicious finale to our meal.
The host was so welcoming and friendly! I'm used to a supercilious or abrupt greeting at most restaurants - from high end to low. The kind and solicitous greeting at Bistro Chat Noir (on one of the hottest days of the year, at a very busy time, with overheated patrons drooping in the door in fussy moods) set the tone for a very nice time. The food was excellent as well - an unexpectedly tasty tuna burger and a savory skirt steak. I also hogged the delicious dessert - a perfect meringue and fruit confection. Loved it!
When we arrived for our 6 PM reservation ,only 2 other tables were occupied and we thought we might have a nice quiet dinner. However, there seemed to be some confusion as to who was our waiter, as by the time anyone so much as asked us for a drink order, several other tables became filled and people were already being served drinks.
Even then, the waiter had to come back as he forgot what we ordered bedore he even made it to the bar! His service, or lack of was the same througout the meal. If the bus boy had not kept filling our water glasses, we would have nothing else to drink all evening, as the waiter never offered to refresh our drinks or inquired about our meal.
This was our first time at Bistrot Chat Noir. The wait staff was very attentive and personable. the food was delicious. The restaurant was three quarters full and the noise level was quiet. We look forward to our next visit.
just the best little neighborhood place....solid food....great and friendly staff....like eating over at your best friend's place !
Nice place, good food, friendly service but way too noisy. Can't converse easily at your own table.
I've been here a few times. Always love it!
LOved it - the best cafe on the UES - so quant, amazing food and i loved every item on the menu!! delicious! could not have been happier (unless it was closer to the west village where i was coming from!!! )
LOVED IT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
My overall experience at Bistro Chat Noir was not impressive. I ordered the seafood risotto, the presentation was pretty but the rice was only half-way cooked. I had to ask them to recook the rice so the dish can be edible. The waiter and waitress were nice, but with only 4 tables of customers that night, it still took me a while to get their attention for service.
Too hot and tables very close together but a great place to eat, salmon was fantastic (both times) and atmosphere was energizing. Will come back.
The food was excellent the wine list was super. The hard thing was to figure out who the server was.
Got a date with my wife for her birthday. Reviewed Le Chat Noir on line. Menus was impressive and it was one of the best romantic restaurant in the city. Well it was not and menue has changed. Food was good but I wanted some original French food. Place was very loud did not injoy my time with my wife.
Went there early on a Saturday night before a Broadway show. Only three tables taken but as evening passed became more crowded and lively. Service was excellent and food was very good. I had the salmon and my wife the bronzino, both very good. This was our third time there over the past year and what we noticed was the consistency in both the quality of service and food. Will return again.
it was incredibly noisy! i thought monday night would be a good time for meeting a business colleague. It ended up we couldn't hear each other speak, so we stopped talking. We usually love Chat Noir, but not this past Monday. I suggest if you are going to have 30+ people, you require them to rent out the entire restaurant. thanks
As always the food and service were great.
Nice atmosphere. Dated menu. Good service. Nice upper east side address.
The BLT Mac and cheese was perfection. Excellent service. Wonderful pear martini and a great wine list.
we live in the neighborhood and are so glad we found this gem of a restaurant. the maitre d was soi nice the food was excellent and we look forward to returning again and again
Food is simple but fresh. Fish dishes are excellent. The staff is very friendly and extremely professional. I would recommend it for dinner.
Incredibly loud when tables are full.
One of my fav's!!!!!!
Everything was great!!! we had a great time and the food was amazing
At Sunday Brunch, we were given menus and when we ordered the waiter said we had the wrong menus but did not replace them. A pasta dish we wanted was not available. When the bill came, the prices were $3-4 higher for eash item than listed on the only menu we had seen. When it was questioned, the waiter said we had seen the wrong menu but did not offer to show us the correct menu, we had to take his word for it. It was a bit strange. The food was good but overpriced and the service was subpar. We would not go back.
It's one of the only restaurants in the area where I work, so if you want a nice lunch it's pretty much the only place to go. The menu is expensive, the food is good (but not amazing). Surprisingly friendly staff.
Always wonderful one of my favorites!
