Lovely little French restaurant. Wonderful service and the food was really excellent (try the mushroom soup!) The only comment is on the noise level. At peak times, it is truly impossible to hear without shouting. Other than that, an excellent dining experience.
Went for my boyfriends birthday and couldn’t be happier. We love it there!
The food is excellent the staff are welcoming and The atmosphere is inviting !! One of my favorites !
Had a marvelous New Year's Eve lunch. Consistently excellent food, attentive and just right service and real, authentic neighborhood feel.
Wonderful food, festive atmosphere and very well located --definitely a place to go back to.
Great birthday lunch with the family
I was looking for a place near the Frick (which it is- only a 5 minute walk). The food was fine. The ambiance was fine. The waiter was nice. But nothing was great, or even very good. The appetizer plate included an under ripe tomato. The salad with green beans was just a pile of green beans, nothing special or particularly tasty. Perfectly fine, which for NYC isn't saying much.
Bistro Chat Noir reminded me of why French food is often considered to be the world's best cuisine. The authentic flavors and menu options did not disappoint-- this is an experienced kitchen that cooks with confidence. Pricey and worth every penny.
Expensive and worth every penny...I plan to treat myself more often...delightful
We had a fabulous Christmas dinner with superb service. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Just a Christmas Eve dinner, great as always
Dinner as always was great. The halibut special was delicious and the service is friendly and professional.
My guests and myself all had a great time! Thank you so much for taking great care of us! The food was amazing and the service outstanding! One of my favorite restaurants!
Very nice restaurant and the food was excellent. Service needs to be upgraded as we had to continually ask the waiter to come by our table. Prices are ok, but not outrageous. But $25 for a small souffle was over the top. Nice place for a businessmen's lunch. But the playing of Happy Birthday several times over the restuarant speakers interruppted my lunch with a company executive.
The restaurant was busy and we encountered difficulty getting seated in accordance with our reservation. When others were seated who arrived after us and who did not have earlier reservations, we expressed our unhappiness with the situation. The restaurant manager and matre d' responded after our complaint and did a good job of trying to rectify the situation. Their efforts were appreciated and generally effective. While we believe the situation should not have occurred, we were satisfied with the response. The food is good and we would not have any qualms recommending the restaurant had this not occurred.
The best nook on the upper east side!! One of our favorite spots for date night and get-togethers.
Fantastic ! Such amazing food for any occasion
Food and service always excellent here. Had the artichoke ravioli, it was delicious.
First visit but it won't be my last. Excellent menu selections and wonderful food.
Cozy, warm, and friendly—neighborhood bistro with great food and varied menu! Great for lunch/brunch, evening with a group or a romantic dinner. Definite winner.
It was my husband’s birthday and we had a reservation. We were looking forward to the experience based on your reputation. When we arrived promptly, we were told that our table was not ready. The hostess told us to have a drink at the bar, but there were no seats. While we were standing by the bar waiting, we were told by the wait staff to move because we were in the way, but there was no other place to stand. This went on for about fifteen minutes and was both stressful and uncomfortable. After we were finally seated and served our meal, our waiter asked me if I wanted a second glass of wine to which I responded “yes.” He failed to bring me my second glass of wine, but gave us our check which showed that he charged us for it anyway. We explained to him that he never in fact brought me this second glass of wine. He said he would correct this mistake, but never returned with our credit card. We approached the hostess
who discovered that one of the waiters had placed our credit card in his pocket and “forgot” about it. This delayed us by 20 minutes in getting home to relieve our babysitter. We have three children and don’t go out much. We were really looking forward to the experience. We were both surprised and disappointed.
Chat Noir is such a beautiful, warm and friendly place. It's grown up but not stuffy. The staff is so welcoming and the food is delicious.
Everything was fabulous. I've been here before and never been disappointed.
We love this restaurant. Always great food and fun. Our waiter Andreas was the best.
Your service is always good. 💕💕
Absolutely wonderful! Been coming here for years every time we visit the City. Their French onion soup is to die for!
We had a quiet, albeit upbeat and happy, celebration! The ambiance was wonderful and we could hear each other well as we talked and laughed. The staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. Some of us shared courses, and without giving the usual argument, the staff divided the items in the kitchen and presented the food beautifully.
Yes, Le Chat Noir is a winner!
Loved this restaurant. Alex, the bar tender, restored my faith in bar tending as a profession. The lobster, truffle, bacon Mac and cheese was sublime. My duck magret delicious. The chocolate souffle was scrumptious and Alex served an espresso martini with it. Overall an excellent dining experience.
Very friendly, efficient service and excellent food.
Such fun. Wonderful neighborhood
Bistro. Owner, Suzanne is a delight!
Took a male business associate because of the hearty and tasty bistro food. The onion soup is a true reduction of caramelized onions. I love their burger. My associate had the prix fixe which he loved - down to the last bite of the perfectly grilled salmon.
They have a reasonably-priced list of by-the-glass wines. The service is old school professional. It's a charming place that you step down two steps to get into. It's cozy but not cramped.
It's run by Suzanne who is always there making sure everyone is happy and every thing is running smoothly.
My female friends love the appetizers and salads. There's something for everyone on the menu.
Wonderful menu and service, but very loud. Very nice for a special occasion.
this is one of my favorite 'go to' places when in nyc...charming and delicious!
My experience there is awesome. I come to her three times a year from out of town and I never miss coming to the restaurant. Thank you for a great time
Wonderful place for lunch or dinner.
Our second visit and the food was spectacular. The crab salad and tuna tartare were equally delicious. I had the Cod over oven roasted beet risotto that was perfectly cooked and tasty. My husband had the artichoke ravioli's that was mouthwatering. My only recommendation is an upgrade to the wine list. We love French wines from Southern Rhone and the selection is very slim.
We had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner enhanced by the friendliness and helpfulness of the wonderful staff. It was a most enjoyable experience, and we will definitely return.
A very pretty French restaurant with very good food. We've had some nice meals here in the past where we could have a conversation. On our last visit the restaurant was incredibly noisy, but hopefully that was an unusual occurrence.
Great uptown chic and yet friendly place for either an intimate dinner or a business lunch
Very cute place but very expensive. $30 for a hamburger plus $2 for a slice of raw onion. Will think twice before returning
Very good bistro food.
