About Bistro Casanova
Bistro Casanova is the offspring of Casanova in Makawao, an Upcountry institution. Bistro Casanova is smooth, elegant, exquisite and fun. A tropical landscaping refreshes the air surrounding the outside al fresco tables. Bistro Casanova offers Mediterranean fare, its roots coming from the Cinque Terre in Italy (where the owner comes from). Locally grown ingredients are used extensively, as well as Maui grown beef and the freshest fish from Maui's ocean. It's a fusion of old world flavors and Pacific cuisine. Bistro Casanova is a favorite for Happy Hour relaxation, watered by specialty martinis, a creative offering of wines by the glass and carafes of mojiito and margaritas.
Tapas (available after 3pm) can be a tasty complement to your drinks, an opening line for your dinner, or dinner itself.
At dinner, Bistro Casanova is a romantic destination for meals before a show or the perfect stop before flying out of Maui or after picking up a friend in nearby Kahului's airport.

Bistro Casanova Ratings and Reviews
We returned for our Anniversary and, as usual we had a great evening.
It was more crowded than usual at the early hour of 5:00, but we got our favorite table right next to the "waterfall". We ordered our drinks and food pretty quick and settled in to eat the complimentary bread, which is always good.
For the tapas we had the artichoke and goat cheese spread with crustini. Yum! And my cocktail of choice was the Planters' Punch, which tasted like alcoholic POG and contained Bacardi Superior and Gold, mango, lilikoi, pineapple, Luxardo, and Angostura bitters. So good.
For dinner, I was hoping to get the gnocchi, but it seems to have been taken off the menu, so I went with my usual ravioli dish. This was delicious as usual, but the sauce was a bit on the thin side. My husband had the surf and turf.
Dessert is always a no brainer for us as the tiramisu is always the best.
Our server, Tim, was not only visually appealing, but very polite. His running reply to my thank yous was a pleasant "No worries
This restaurant has seen its peaks and valleys. Prior, their service was great, but food quality and value was lacking.
Now, food quality has risen tremendously but their attention to service has dropped.
They seem to operate in "silos," where everyone has a specific task to perform without the initiative to do what it takes to ensure customers/clients are serviced well.
As an example, one of the workers walked by the table and picked up a plate without removing the empty bread basket, nor refill the empty water glasses.
The actual server of our table came back three times to check in on us, apologizing for a dish that he had forgotten to place an order for, and also failed to refill the water....until we asked for it.
When leaving, we passed by five (5) workers. Only one took the opportunity to thank us and invite us back.
If the food wasn't so good, we would have such a hard time returning.
We were very disappointed. Disappointed that we did not find this hidden jewel earlier in our visit to Maui. After dining here, unfortunately on our last night of our vacation, we truly felt the meal we had was one of the finest on the Island. We ate at various resorts and upscale locations and the experience we had at the Bistro Casanova was tops in our opinion. We certainly would have come back for another meal. Thank you and you will certainly see us on our next visit to Maui.
Four of us enjoyed our evening of great conversation, good food and a wonderful server. Two of us had the veal and one person said it was a little tough. one person had the lamb chops, only had 2 chops, usually would get 4 chops elsewhere. we were old friends who hadnt seen each other is a while so they sat us in the corner which was perfect.
Food quality is lacking and poor cooking skills. I had a really tough and chewy duck and couldn't finish it. My son's fish, opah, was not completely cooked. It's a good thing it's Hawaii where one can eat it raw. We had a fairly good tasting Pasta. The service was pushy to get more drinks. Not a good experience.
Bravo! Bistro Casanova continues as a great lunch spot. We enjoy the choices, ambiance, relaxed atmosphere, and good service.
I have recommended the restaurant to a number of people, several of whom had a poor dining experience at dinner: slow service, disappointing meals. They do not wish to return!
On 08-12, we arrived at the restaurant with a party of nine, we had reservations of course. We were seated quickly. Then a male comes to the table and begins pouring water, I thought it was our busboy as he never introduced himself. A while later he came back to take our drink order, then I asked if he was our waiter and he said yes. Still don’t know what his name is, and right now I really don’t care. After taking our drink order, I wanted to make a correction as he walked past me. “Excuse me” I said, whereupon he pointed his right index finger at me, did not even look in my direction and said, “wait.” I thought he was the waiter. When he returned and took our order, he kept saying “No bother” or some silly saying like he was doing us a favor. The appetizers arrived in a timely manner. Everyone at the table at that time was happy. We ate the appetizers and then waited for the entrées. And waited…and waited some more. I saw four people that came in after us, get seated, get their drinks and get their entrée’s before we got ours. One of those couples actually finished dinner and left before we finished our dinner. While waiting, because that is what we did a lot of, I asked him, nicely, if there was a problem with our order. He looked at me like I was growing another nose and said, “You ordered steaks, these take a few minutes.” My reply was that “It has been a few minutes.” He then stammered off. We continued to wait….and wait. Eventually we got our order. The food is okay. Not near the quality of Ruth’s Chris you understand, but okay.
Worst waiter on the planet. He is completely apathetic and has absolutely no professionalism. I would never hire him. We will go back there because some of the food is actually very good, but he will never again be our waiter.
Was in town with my husband visiting an old friend. We wanted a nice steak dinner and Makawao Steak House was closed on a Monday, so our friend and Maui resident suggested Casanova. We were seated at a nice table in a room with a water feature.
It was a bit warm and am not sure a/c was working because it never cooled down during our entire meal and we were sweating. Our introduction to Pietro, our waiter was pleasant, but that was to be almost the last time we saw him as he proceeded to neglect us for most of the remainder of our meal until our friend complained.
We ordered appetizers for the table, a filet med rare, a NY Strip med rare, and a surf and turf rare. None of the steaks were the requested temperature, but tolerable except for the surf and turf which was beyond well done. Pietro took back the entire plate only to inform me several minutes later that they were out of filets.
A ribeye was offered instead and accepted, but by the time the plate was returned, the other two meals had been eaten leaving me to wolf down a surf and turf in rexord time. For the problems, two lovely desserts were provided at no charge, but we still paid $185 plus $30 tip for a miserable meal in a hot restaurant.
Not going back.
Enjoyable date night. Food was excellent as usual. We are regulars to the upcountry location (Makawao) and occasional for this location. Unfortunately, there was a large (loud) party right beside us and our entrees took almost 45 minutes to come out after our appetizers and we ordered almost immediately when we sat down. Having said that the food was delicious once it did arrive. Would have been nice to have at least been told that they were running behind in the kitchen. Our waitress was nice enough, but not very communicative. Just some observations for future improvements for service.
Food quality was much better this visit (NY Steak, Roasted Asparagus and Mushroom, Angel Hair Pasta and Chicken, and Ahi Bruschetta).
Our waiter did not seem very engaging, rarely smiled. Had to ask for water refill.
If you are seeking a quiet evening for a date or a business deal, thus is not the place...way too loud. Moreso at happy hour, but that's expected with all of the flow of liquor.
With future visits.
