About Bistro Casanova
Bistro Casanova is the offspring of Casanova in Makawao, an Upcountry institution. Bistro Casanova is smooth, elegant, exquisite and fun. A tropical landscaping refreshes the air surrounding the outside al fresco tables. Bistro Casanova offers Mediterranean fare, its roots coming from the Cinque Terre in Italy (where the owner comes from). Locally grown ingredients are used extensively, as well as Maui grown beef and the freshest fish from Maui's ocean. It's a fusion of old world flavors and Pacific cuisine. Bistro Casanova is a favorite for Happy Hour relaxation, watered by specialty martinis, a creative offering of wines by the glass and carafes of mojiito and margaritas.
Tapas (available after 3pm) can be a tasty complement to your drinks, an opening line for your dinner, or dinner itself.
At dinner, Bistro Casanova is a romantic destination for meals before a show or the perfect stop before flying out of Maui or after picking up a friend in nearby Kahului's airport.

Bistro Casanova Ratings and Reviews
We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation because of traffic (we did call to alert them) but we were promptly seated. The gentlemen who sat out party was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was also very friendly. My daughter asked for a paper and crayons and she quickly and very nicely accomadated her request. The menu looked wonderful. They were busy but our waitress was on top of everything. We ordered a few appetizers, and some pasta dishes to share. All were very delicious. There was no printed children's menu but our waitress verbally made offerings when I asked. They had rigatoni with red sauce, the kitchen split it and it was a perfect portion. We didn't drink and the bill was just under $70. We will be back! Fast friendly service, delicious food!
We have been stopping here for several years now on our annual Maui visits and continue to appreciate their consistently good food and reasonable - for Maui _ prices. They seem to attract more locals than most places as they are a bit off the beaten track and a little hard to find. But they have some interesting dishes that are well prepared. We will keep them on our list.
This has been one of our "go to" places on Maui. This last visit was a bit of a disappointment. Food was good but service was very slow and at the end dessert order was forgotten ( we finally got it) From what we observed kitchen was chaotic and the servers/waitstaff all were frowning. No happy faces or smiles coming out of the kitchen. We were seated in front of the doors so we had a good view.
The reservation through Open Table worked great (it always does :) )
Hope it improves, we'd like to go back.
We have dined here often and I was disappointed in the duck l'orange. It was overdone. I requested rare, was told it would be medium rare and when it came it was cooked all the way through which meant grey. The beet appetizer is very good, the calamari appetizer is very good. In general, any of the pasta dishes are excellent. My daughter had the veal and it was well done also.
We returned for our Anniversary and, as usual we had a great evening.
It was more crowded than usual at the early hour of 5:00, but we got our favorite table right next to the "waterfall". We ordered our drinks and food pretty quick and settled in to eat the complimentary bread, which is always good.
For the tapas we had the artichoke and goat cheese spread with crustini. Yum! And my cocktail of choice was the Planters' Punch, which tasted like alcoholic POG and contained Bacardi Superior and Gold, mango, lilikoi, pineapple, Luxardo, and Angostura bitters. So good.
For dinner, I was hoping to get the gnocchi, but it seems to have been taken off the menu, so I went with my usual ravioli dish. This was delicious as usual, but the sauce was a bit on the thin side. My husband had the surf and turf.
Dessert is always a no brainer for us as the tiramisu is always the best.
Our server, Tim, was not only visually appealing, but very polite. His running reply to my thank yous was a pleasant "No worries
This restaurant has seen its peaks and valleys. Prior, their service was great, but food quality and value was lacking.
Now, food quality has risen tremendously but their attention to service has dropped.
They seem to operate in "silos," where everyone has a specific task to perform without the initiative to do what it takes to ensure customers/clients are serviced well.
As an example, one of the workers walked by the table and picked up a plate without removing the empty bread basket, nor refill the empty water glasses.
The actual server of our table came back three times to check in on us, apologizing for a dish that he had forgotten to place an order for, and also failed to refill the water....until we asked for it.
When leaving, we passed by five (5) workers. Only one took the opportunity to thank us and invite us back.
If the food wasn't so good, we would have such a hard time returning.
We were very disappointed. Disappointed that we did not find this hidden jewel earlier in our visit to Maui. After dining here, unfortunately on our last night of our vacation, we truly felt the meal we had was one of the finest on the Island. We ate at various resorts and upscale locations and the experience we had at the Bistro Casanova was tops in our opinion. We certainly would have come back for another meal. Thank you and you will certainly see us on our next visit to Maui.
Four of us enjoyed our evening of great conversation, good food and a wonderful server. Two of us had the veal and one person said it was a little tough. one person had the lamb chops, only had 2 chops, usually would get 4 chops elsewhere. we were old friends who hadnt seen each other is a while so they sat us in the corner which was perfect.
Food quality is lacking and poor cooking skills. I had a really tough and chewy duck and couldn't finish it. My son's fish, opah, was not completely cooked. It's a good thing it's Hawaii where one can eat it raw. We had a fairly good tasting Pasta. The service was pushy to get more drinks. Not a good experience.
