The food and service are both AMAZING. This is one of our favorite restaurants.
We arrived a few minutes early for our 6:00 reservation and were pleased to see that the staff was totally prepared and geared up for the crowd that would be attending Songs of Good Cheer at the Old Town School of Music at 7:30. We were served at a pace that had us done and satisfied in plenty of time for the performance and yet we never felt rushed. Hats off to all who made it happen! A memorable meal on a wonderful holiday evening!
Saturday was my husband's birthday and I had made the reservation three weeks in advance because I knew it would be crowded. To our great disappointment, we were taken to the worst table in the place - small and out in the middle of the main floor behind the seated bar patrons, with servers and guests constantly pushing by both sides of our table. We ditched any ideas of ordering a bottle of wine and lingering over the finer entrees. We just ordered burgers and decided to resume our romantic evening at a different place. This isn't the first time something comparable has happened at Bistro Campagne. It's definitely hit or miss in terms of feeling like the experience as a whole is worth it. If you're looking for a place for a special celebration, be aware that it could go either way at this restaurant. We've had occasions when everything was great too, but not this time.
Definitely not what it used to be, sadly. It was one of my favorite restaurants in the city but the last time I went back it had slipped so didn't go for the past year but then decided to give it another try. Still love the ambiance and our server was very nice. However the bread wasn't as good as it used to be and the halibut special was overcooked. The steak frites that used to be outstanding was just ok with kind of mushy fries. The pumpkin creme brulee desert was also just ok- I have had outstanding pumpkin creme brulee in the past and this was not it. Unlikely that I'll go back.
Everything about this Bistro was fantastic. We had a combination of apps and entrees that include beef and fish and all were prepared perfectly. The hanger steak frites were among the best I’ve had.
The dining room is charming. The service friendly and attentive and the wine list was ample to cover any menu pairing.
I will definitely return.
Lackluster food at downtown prices. It had been many years since we dined here and it will be many more before we return. So many better French restaurants. The special pear salad was skimpy. The special halibut was just ok. The filet came with overcooked fries.
Bistro Campagne is a lovely French restaurant. I've gone many times over the years and it is always delicious! I was just there for brunch - a friend and I split the quiche and french toast - both were wonderful!
The meal exceeded our expectations from beginning to end. Our server Mel, was very gracious and offered spot on food and wine suggestions. My wife and I shared a bowl of potato leek soup and a roasted beet and burrata salad for starters followed by the Halibut and Lentil special for my wife and the Cassoulet for me, both were beyond delicious. We shared the Pain Perdu (bread pudding) for dessert which was fantastic. This was our first dining experience at Bistro Campagne and I can assure you it will become a permanent part of our dining favorites.
We were disappointed that the pork chop came out well over cooked! Wait and management didn’t seem to care much “we will let the kitchen know”. Service was average.
Wonderful atmosphere very good food and excellent service.
The wait staff had a glass of dry proseco waiting for us because we told them it was our anniversary.
Wednesday night's a three course prefix menu for $36.
Bistro Campagne is our absolute favorite for a special occasion or a date night. It's been our anniversary go to for 6 years and will be for the foreseeable future. Absolutely fabulous every time.
Simply outstanding! Service was so accommodating, chef created a scrumptious and unexpected quiche, and our seasonal drink was delicious. Price was very reasonable given food quality and service. Thank you Bistro Campagne as it was also to celebrate my birthday. Such a special treat. We hope to go again in the future. Highly recommend.
Great food. We had mussels and escargot for appetizers. The escargot were good but not the best we've had (not garlicky enough for us) but the mussels were outstanding. The serving was large enough for us to share. Wish we had known because we would have only ordered the mussels. The pork chop and the bouillabaisse were excellent. The pork chop was very tender and forestiere sauce was very good. Both were large enough servings that we took some home for the next day's lunch -- still excellent. Desserts were good. My husband didn't love the chocolate mousse -- the texture was too dense for him and he didn't like that the passionfruit creme was on the bottom. But my apple strudel with ice cream (substituting for Tarte Tatin on the menu) was great and we shared that.
Maginifent food. Perfect ambience. The ideal, place for 1 21st anniovesry dinner. Excellent, professional service. Couldn't be happier.
Excellent food and great value
Food was great! Kat was our server and she was lovely & helpful! Love the bistro and already plan to return on Wednesday for their prix fixe night!
A charming neighborhood french bistro but with some serious cooking chops and friendly service. Always hits the spot.
This was a brunch for my daughter's birthday and we felt the whole experience was quite celebratory.
Great food, ambiance. Service was wonderful, too. I’d go back!
excellent food and nice ambiance.
Prices on some things were a little steep.
Excellent food and excellent service. We look forward to going back as soon as possible. I love the cozy atmosphere, and the food was superb. We have already passed on our recommendations to friends.
Excellent restaurant-food was great and Restaraunt was nice and quiet allowing for pleasant dinner conversation.
I go to Bistro Campagne often. This was not typical. Everything took a very long time. The new fall menu is not up to standards expected
Great food, as usual. The server was disengaged and although she knew it was a birthday dinner, she failed to present the dessert with a candle or any good wishes. Disappointing.
Excellent bubbly rose, delicious onion soup, underdone hanger steak
No rush so a great Sunday night site
Our food was quite good. The Salad Lyonaise was fresh and very delicious. The Steak Frites was was perfectly cooked and served with delicious sauce. The chicken entree was quite large and superb! Out wait person was very attentive and polite. A very nice meal!
A special place for a special dinner with my Chicago family during my first visit with them after they relocated there. Open Table reviews helped me select your restaurant and I was not disappointed. Nice atmosphere and great food with very attentive service. Hope to return when I visit Chicago again.
Generally a good experience.
Two of us had the vegetarian entree and were disappointed as the entree was not particularly interesting. Two of us had salmon which was very good
It's on the pricier side so we decided to try during restaurant week with the special menu. Everything was amazing. And our server Ryan was so nice and helpful describing the wines for us and pacing our meal just right!
Food was good but not Wow from what we were led to believe from others we know whom had gone before. Also the restaurant inside was very warm/hot inside without any lack of any fresh air or ventilation thus smelling everything that moved inside that was unpleasant at times. Service was good, lacked any enthusiasm or passion for the food itself and the menu offerings. It was the end of Restaurant week and so maybe a lack of spirit was there but still a little disappointing, especially for a Friday evening at only 7pm.
Always outstanding. Highly recommended.
Great restaurant week deal, with all of their best items!
Me and my friends tried this place because of the restaurant week. And this place was just fantastic! The service was very good. But the best part was the food, and the mussels was so delicious that you just wanna keep eating it. I’ll be sure to come back here. The waiter was so knowledgeable he’s been there for 15 yrs and knows the menu very well. Next come back we’re ordering escargot and pork chop!
Never had a bad meal at Bistro Campagne. Such a friendly neighborhood place, bistro atmosphere, noisy in a nice way but not "can't hear you at all" level. The escargot was amazing with the piping hot baguette, and the bouillabaisse that is a seasonal specialty was every bit as good as I remembered it. And one can find parking!
Perfect bistro food. I felt as if I was dining in the 5th.
what was purpose of asking if we there for special event? It was mine and my husband's birthday and there was zero acknowledgement...not even a candle! So why ask????
Have been going to Bistro Campagne for many years and have never had a bad meal/experience. This occasion was no different. My white fish was some of the best I've ever had.
My wife and I have been to this restaurant several times and we are always impressed with the service and the quality of the food. We were there on Wednesday and they had a fixed price dinner that was a good deal. We went for my wife's birthday with our youngest daughter (an adult) It was her first time and she was also very happy with the food. The portions were more than adequate. We will surely return.
We had friends in from NYC and we were all vey impressed with the service and the food was amazing!
Exquisite meal, lovely ambience ... we will be back!
