Door greeter was kind and cordial. Our waiter was excellent and very knowledgeable about the wines and menus. I had the Filet Minot, medium well, over roasted asparagus w/ potato gratin. Absolutely delicious. Tender and cooked to perfection. 2 days later I'd I can go for the same dish. We we're able to hear the entire conversation next to us which consisted of a lot of political banter, but I guess that's expected in DC. The more wine we had the more we drown things out. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. You'll be happy you did.
Amazing service and food. Restaurant is so cozy and decor reminds me of my favorite restaurants in France. Highly recommend.
After 13 years in DC, Bistro Cacao is still my favorite restaurant! The food is always very good, service is great and the ambiance is right out of a 1920 Paris bistro. They have not forgotten what almost every restaurant in America ignores these days: Dining should be an experience to be enjoyed on all levels: sight, taste, service, and sound! Cozy draped booth and upholstered seating absorb voices from other diners. Soft French music plays just loud enough to set the mood but not so loud you can't converse with your table mates. I have taken several French friends there over the years and they always love it. This is one of the few places I've found in DC where you can relax and have a wonderful meal and civilized conversation the way dining was meant to be!
The staff were very attentive and friendly, the food was exquisite. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and highly recommend.
Outstanding food and service in a cozy venue for a fair price.
The dinner at Bistro Cacao was delicious. The crepes were awesome -- both the appetizer and the dessert. The service was outstanding. Great experience -- definitely would return when I am back in D.C.
Loved this place! The service was outstanding and the ambiance great due to nearly private tables with curtains. Went for lunch and started with the Coquilles St Jacques, which was excellent. The scallops were perfectly cooked and delicious! Then had the Salade de Betteraves et Mozzarella which was delightful! Based on the perfection of the scallops, we decided to have the days special halibut dish. Unfortunately, the halibut was way over cooked bordering on tough and dry, though the broccolini was delightful. Without the halibut being overcooked, I would have given this lunch 5 stars!
Another pleasant evening at Cacao. Receptionist was delightful at beginning and end of evening. Room was nicely lit with pleasing noise level. Server, Sam, was friendly and efficient
I have eaten there twice in the last year. Both times every morsel of food was delicious. The service was excellent! It is quiet enough to be able to have a conversation. I recommend it highly!
Amazing ambiance and service
Lovely old fashioned ambience, lots of private seating alcoves where I suppose you could pull closed the curtains if desired. Wonderful menu selection, wait service was fantastic, not hovering too much or too little and gave excellent wine suggestions. Only downside was that the portions were quite small -- especially for the price -- so that even with getting an appetizer, first plate, and main, it still wasn't a lot of food. At least there was room for dessert, which was delicious and innovative, but also small. Do get the pear poached in red wine!
Bistro Cacao is always excellent! Food is refined and delicious and served beautifully.
Perfect service ...a real delight!
We’ve been to this restaurant plenty of times but this was the first time we tried their thanksgiving dinner. It was delicious with veggie options for me as well! The portion sizes were just right and so we were able to finish everything and have no leftovers! Great ambience and service as usual. Would definitely recommend this to folks looking to enjoy thanksgiving dinner without the worry of cooking!
My wife an i visited on Thanksgiving for classic French bistro cuisine modified to conform to American Thanksgiving tradition. They could not have done better, we really enjoyed it.
Staff/cooks should honor patron’s request. If I want lamb medium well I should not be served medium rare because the cook/staff feels their preference is what is best
The food was amazing and the wait staff were very pleasant and responded to my family's needs. We will be back again.
Once again, I had a great meal and a good time there. The Beef Wellington was a bit dry, but the hot cider , lobster bisque, and pumpkin cheese cake with caramel drizzle were to die for. Love our waiter (so sorry I don't remember his name). He works the larger back room, has a marvelous sense of humor and doesn't rush you. I'll becoming back for my next special event.
Wonderful Thanksgiving dinner from start to finish! Lovely ambiance with intimate tables in all sorts of beautifully decorated rooms, great and friendly service from Damian, varied menu, delicious 3-course dinner, quiet conversation.
Not to be missed!
Took my girlfriend here for our 2 year dating anniversary. She was very pleased and impressed. Great ambiance. I made a note on Open Table that it was a special occasion, and the restaurant actually paid attention to that. We had a special table for two that offered us privacy. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing, and the food was excellent. My girlfriend enjoyed her bouillabaisse, while I ordered the rack of lamb. Both were delicious. Being so close to Thanksgiving we skipped dessert, so cannot comment on that. We have never been to Bistro Cacao before, but we will definitely go back again. Great place for a date. Highly recommended!
Bistro Cacao is one of my favorite places for dinner on Capitol Hill. The food is superb and the service is world class.
grata food, service and even better wine. this place is a must try for a nice quiet birthday celebration or date
We went for our anniversary and it was perfect. Great romantic ambiance and the staff was very welcoming and kind. Food was delicious and I would definitely go back again.
A birthday celebration. The food and time between courses was very good so everyone was enjoying themselves and relaxed. The wine recommendation was great. Will be there before long.
Bistro Cacao was a great place for my partner and I to celebrate our anniversary. Our dinner was simply splendid. I had the lamb shank special- cooked perfectly and came right off the bone! My partner is still raving about the food, days after we visited the restaurant. The ambiance was perfect for the occasion, and I liked the music especially. I've always been a fan of Edith Piaf, and listening to her sing while drinking a glass of red wine was so romantic. I'd easily recommend to friends and family, and we will very likely be returning for the next big occasion. C'etait magnifique!
I met a friend and colleague for dinner after a year’s absence, and we had a lot to catch up on. Sam, our waiter, was very attentive without rushing us. We arrived at 6:30 and closed the restaurant down, but they were completely patient and welcoming throughout the evening. (Fortunately, it was a Monday night, so they had diners, but were not too crowded.) Dinner was excellent, as always. The duck was superb. We love this place for it’s location, atmosphere, and food!
This place is amazing. Took my significant other here for a quiet romantic dinner, while we stayed in DC. This place totally exceeded my expectations. He was very pleased with my choice.
I would reccomend this for a romantic dinner
Not a lot of people or noise, which was a concern. I would def go again. Service, food and ambiance perfect.
Thank you for making our evening perfect.

The ambiance, service and food were all fantastic. We really enjoyed our dinner at Bistro Cacao.
The foie gras was especially delicious.
My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary, and we were blown away by the food! Absolutely delicious! We're both vegetarians, and there was plenty of great dishes for us to choose from. The dessert was amazing too, and our server was so nice and helpful. We'll definitely want to come back when we're in the area again.
This place was so perfect for our Anniversary! We loved everything! Would highly recommend!!! Excellent!!!
The atmosphere was special. We were seated at a table for two that was curtained off, and it made it very romantic and cozy.
Hands down the best food I've ever had in DC, Definitely worth the price.
Superb overall experience! - salad, entrees, desserts, cocktals, ambiance, staff, service. Looking forward to return. Will definitely recommend to others!
Great place, when there in a first date and she LOVED IT! Definitely give it a shot, our waiter Sam was incredible as well!
The food and service was delicious and I Love that they offer crystalized Ginger free. I celebrated my 48th Birthday here and I love everything about the restaurant including my Birthday appitizer .. 5 Stars
Welcoming. The hostess was kind & lovely. Johnny, our waiter, was attentive, patient & knowledgeable. Food was perfectly prepared. Wine pairing memorable. We lingered, but was never rushed. This was second visit, and consistent w/ the first. Highly recommend.
Excellent food - there for dinner and also Sunday brunch - both excellent. A great ambience and servers very knowledgeable and attentive.
My new go to place in DC.
PLUSES: Very pleasant staff. Steak was great - both filet and hanger. Great frites/fries. Good salads and desserts-especially creme brulee, profiteroles and lemon tarte. Chef made minor modifications we requested to entrees. Waiter suggested a wine and made sure I Iiked it before pouring my full glass. Chef checked on us to clarify something and to make sure we liked our meal. Very responsive to my husband not liking his meal, offered a replacement, and did not charge us for the entree or replacement salad he requested!! MINUSES (but not major minuses): We were a party of four -- arrived on time with reservation but had to wait. Wine pour at bar was stingy. Skimpy vegetable portion with steak. Missed having baguette with French meal. My husband's rockfish did not taste fresh. Décor not to our taste - a little fussy - and ladies room needs some freshening up.
