Exceptional French fare with classic Parisian decor. Nice wine selection, intimate seating for couples, very attentive staff and excellent spot for a special occasion or romantic dinner.

This is the second time I went to Bistro Cacao and it was as good as the first. It is a very cozy, very expensive French restaurant. The food, service, and decor are all excellent. Most options on the menu are naturally gluten free, or can be made gluten free upon request. I would highly recommend Bistro Cacao for anyone looking to impress someone with a high-end dinner in DC.

Great food but we had to wait 30 minutes for our table (although we had a reservation). A bit pricey too.

Everybody was very happy and would DME again. My husband had a steak that was too chewy so they should not skimp at the butcher.

Excellent choice, highly recommended. The tables are nicely spaced, the (French) music is unobtrusive, and the ambiance is very pleasant. The menu offers interesting items, and the extensive wine list has good selections from France as well as other countries. This time we opted for the venison, which is on the regular menu; the cut was tender and delicious. At the recommendation of our server, we had a bottle of Maranges , a red Burgundy, which complemented the venison beautifully. The service is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Not a bad thing on the menu. Staff is outstanding, friendly and not pushy. On non-holiday events you can sit at a table for four hours and they won’t complain. I’ve eaten at a lot of restaurants in a couple dozen countries and Bistro CaCao Is the friendliest service of them all. Simply outstanding. I had the summer and winter menus at least two or three times over each. Enjoy!

Went for a quick meal late in the evening coming from picking up a friend at Union Station. An easy walk (if the weather is not too cold...). We came very casual and with folks that were more at home with fast food. We were fully invested in by staff and treated very respectfully. Our waiter rolled with our situation and could not have been better, especially as we were the last table in/out for the evening. Food was very good, portions appropriate. I hope to get back to sample more of the menu. Intimate atmosphere in a converted row house. This is the kind of place I hope to find when I am out traveling!

I hadn't been here since it was "2 Quail" years ago. The atmosphere, music, decor has stayed the same and the menu is different. But the same friendly atmosphere of a Paris baroque restaurant prevails with elegant French fare and reasonable prices for brunch and wines and cocktails.

Excellent French restaurant with good choices for vegetarians, however we were there when they served the 3-course meal so items were limited for our vegetarian, but she liked what they had. The wine list is good, but not extensive. There are stairs to arrive at the first floor and another floor above, so it is not for the handicapped.

This is my second holiday meal at this fine restaurant. Seating during my previous visit was in a larger room while my most recent visit was immediately off the front entrance. A visitor at the adjoining table talked in a loud voice but I found the conversation level at the other tables muted. I opted for the lamb selection which was cooked to perfection. Once again the service was excellent! My wife loves the atmosphere.

The holiday menu was so delicious and decadent. With the romantic charm and gorgeous plating of the dishes, It was so hard to keep my camera off of the table. Everything was so pretty. The service was outstanding. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. Bistro Cacao was already my favorite restaurant in DC, and now it is my Mum's favorite restaurant too.

Ambiance - 5 stars. We had the ribeye with sauteed scallops. My husband had the Filet Mignon with potato Au gratin. Both were cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths. The French house wine was superb and the service impeccable, attentive and noninvasive. A new favorite for us!

The food was absolutely fantastic! The service at times was slow and the waiter needed to be flagged down for basic things. However, this will not keep us from a return trip. Nice gem in the middle of Capital Hill. We went for my wife’s birthday . Most places comp a dessert for the special occasion. However, my wife wanted a espresso martini for her dessert. The glass was brought out on a happy birthday plate which was a nice touch. We payed and we’re leaving. We heard a server asking how to comp a drink instead of a dessert for a birthday. Maybe it was an oversight or just our server. Anyhow, we enjoyed the dinner.

We loved the 3 appetizers (smoked salmon, scallops, and faisant pate) and 3 desserts (creme brûlée, chocolate mousse, and profiteroles) that we shared amongst our group of six - absolutely delicious! But we were less enthusiastic about the various entrees. The lamb was very much on the rare side of medium rare, the sauce over the duck was thick and somewhat overwhelming in taste, and the fish was quite bland. The decor is quite unusual - none of the chairs and lamps match, the chandeliers are made of red fake glass, and there are red curtains everywhere. Definitely quirky in a bordello kind of style - part of the ambiance and fun.
