I visited Bistro Cacao for Restaurant Week - while the mushroom soup starter and dessert were quite fulfilling, I was extremely dismayed by the trout. To my taste, this main course lacked flavor and it honestly felt like a chore to eat it. Furthermore, the service at the restaurant was quite slow and the French ambience a tad forced/cliche. Based on this, I would not give Bistro Cacao my highest endorsement.

We’ve been here before and we were excited to come back for their restaurant week dinner menu. Despite the cold, we sat outside to stay safe from covid and the heaters / tent were helpful in keeping us warm. The food was delicious! The staff was accommodating and friendly. Even though we could tell they were very busy, they provided great service.

We were asked to come In early for our reservation to allow for the best service possible. Our group came early. Service was mediocre at best. Drinks were not refreshed in a timely manner. Food was well prepared, albeit very underwhelming. We received bread service at the tail end of our dinner. Ambience was ok, it’s extremely cold by the windows, be prepared for that. Perhaps I have different expectations from the perspective of someone in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. But this was not worth the drive or the price point.

Overall a good experience but the restaurant week menu was underwhelming. Disappointed that we were told the standard menu was not available.

The food was very disappointing. The hangar steak and frites was pretty good. Mushroom soup bland, duck - pretty on the plate, but small portion and not that tasty, mussels - meh, chocolate tart - disappointing. Martini was good! Atmosphere and service good, but we won't be going back.

SO many delicious choices on the restaurant week fixed menu. Most of my party had the steaks (and loved them)-- I had the large starter salad garnished with walnuts and goat cheese, and the ravioli with mushrooms, which was a perfect choice--meaty with mushrooms and a creamy, delicate sauce. The starter of escargot also had mushroom caps (along with plenty of garlic butter)---so good! I also loved that they offered half-carafes of wine---the Sancerre was excellent. Beautiful dining room, accomplished staff, cozy bar. They make you feel at home!

Wonderful experience. We had dinner the first night DC required pproof of vaccination., which I didn't have a problem with. it actually made me feel better that they were taking the pandemic seriously and they made sure everything was sanitized before we sat down and spread guest out so they did not sit close to each othe. Food was delicious. nice wine list.

Nearly all of the things we ordered were quite good but my date found the steak tartare to contain way too many capers. It should have been called caper tartare, not steak tartare. The duck breast wasn’t cooked to my date’s request. But I thoroughly enjoyed the dishes that I ordered. Will go back but will steer clear of the tartare and the duck. Our waiter, the bartender and the hostess were wonderful and made the evening special!

It was a nice experience. I would no longer recommend the outdoor dining as it is too cold on the patio. Indoors is nice and the food is very well prepared. It was a birthday and they gave free profiteroles for the table, which was a nice touch.

These are plague times, but the lobster bisque was more like tomato soup. The rack of lamb was well cooked but the lamb was long in the tooth and chewy. The profiteroles were encased in cardboard. The waiter was casual to the point of cavalierness. It was not a pleasant experience.

This was our first time dining at Bistro Cacao, and it exceeded our expectations. We wanted a warm and festive place to dine before the Christmas Holiday, and you certainly get that at Bistro Cacao. The upstairs dining room is quaint, quiet, and beautiful -- a perfect place for a dinner for two. We greatly enjoyed the French Classics: Escargot and Coq Au Vin, both of which were delicious, fresh and some of the best we've ever had. The Apple Tart and Champagne Soaked Pear we're also excellent. The service was friendly and and the menu is very accommodating to gluten-free needs. We will be returning soon!

I had a disappointing dinner with a young (20-ish) relative at Bistro Cacao on a colder-than-expected Saturday night. The outdoor dining space was covered and it had a few fire pits (as promised; in light of COVID, we wanted to eat outdoors). The fire pits were not at all effective as heaters.

The food was disappointing. The "small plate" grilled calamari was pretty tiny. Fewer than 10 small pieces. The steak in the steak frites was tough. The coq au vin was the big hit of the evening.

The poached pear was a delicious dessert, and the tarte tatin was good.

For all that, it was a pretty expensive meal, with no liquor.

Best Hazy Old Fashioned in the area! Wonderful traditional French cuisine in an elegant interior setting, or a really nice patio protected from the elements (important for these COVID timesl)

Lovely, romantic restaurant with very attentive but not hovering wait staff. The onion soup and lobster bisque we had for appetizers were both delicious. I had hoped to have the coq au vin but it was not ready which was a disappointment. Instead, we both had the salmon with mixed vegetables and parsnip purée which was also delicious. We’ll return another day for a later reservation and hopefully try the coq au vin.

Bistro Cacao never disappoints for providing very attentive service and wonderful food that is well plated in terms of presentation.
It is a unique setting that follows the theme of its French influences.
