I would recommend for wine, appetizers and dessert, just to enjoy the romantic old-fashioned vibe of the place. The food is ok but not spectacular. Fish (bronzino) was cooked properly and came with tasty cream sauce; however sides and presentation were nothing special. Calamari was cold and tasteless. Crepe" was a seafood filling covered by a pasty round mound of dough; despite the ofd shape, the filling and red pepper sauce were tasty. Creme brulee dessert was superb! Poached pear was ok.
As usual, everything about the experience was delightful
Overall this was an excellent experience for a birthday dinner. As opposed to many other restaurants, we were able to carry on a nice conversation throughout dinner at normal speaking levels. Anthony provided excellent service from the moment we were seated until we were leaving the restaurant.
This place is a gem.
Cute French bistro. Easy conversation venue. Good food, service, and atmosphere. We had a very enjoyable Saturday brunch for 4!
We were most pleased with our special birthday dinner at the Bistro Cacao. The Matri d' was most welcoming and accommodating, and we had a quiet table at a front window. The waiter was excellent, attentive, but not obsequious. The food was prepared hot and served quickly. We have visited several times and for a dinner for two they have lovely alcove tables which offer good privacy. We plan to return again.
Wonderful cosy place to celebrate our anniversary.
No one in our group had been here before. Everyone loved it. Our desserts were especially good.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. Ambiance was cozy and friendly. The food was just incredibly delicious and beautifully presented, with just right proportions. The host, bar, and wait staff were welcoming, attentive, and friendly. The value of the food, wine, and service was excellent.
Loved this place for lunch! Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere!!
Great food and atmosphere. The service was exceptional.
Love bringing clients here. Always great food, great service and a unique atmosphere.
Ambience was spectacular! Great French music while you are eat.
Good experience overall however in the booth we were in there was an outlet with several plugs sticking out at chest level and wallpaper was falling off and taped back on. For what the food costs I expect better.
Had an exceptional time at this restaurant. When we initially arrived there was a slight mixup with our reservation, but this was graciously resolved by the manager.
The food was exceptional and the setting was homy and quaint.
Amazing! Never had a bad experience there!
A gem! Food was excellent, and Damien our server was delightful!
We came on a Friday night for pre theater dinner. Food was delicious and service was great— very attentive to our time constraints, gracious and efficient. Prices very reasonable. A great value!
Beautiful setting, soft music, impeccable service. Our only distraction from a lovely late lunch was that the only other diners were a large, talkative group and we were seated next to them. The food was rather American-French, and my dishes were VERY rich, but that wouldn't be a criticism for many people. A lovely drinks menu although we did not imbibe. A fire in the front room was very inviting.
Delicious food and wine, and excellent service in a lovely space. Our only regret was that we were too full for dessert.
Bistro Cacao was beyond. The service, drinks, food and the staff all far surpassed expectations. Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for an elegant night and a wonderful lavish meal
Great evening with a small group of friends at Bistro Cacao. The ambience was great, it was easy to talk and hear each other, and the food was outstanding. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
Had a wonderful evening.
Staff was very helpful.
Great experience for ours first time.
Perfect spot for the most romantic anniversary dinners. Extremely recommend it! Food and ambiance were amazing. Service was extraordinary. Definitely will be back whenever am in DC.
Tasting menu was excellent for a reasonable price. There was nothing completely off menu but wonderful dishes. Added the wine pairing which was fairly good with interesting choices.
My new favorite French restaurant. Everything about this restaurant was extraordinary. Food was great, service was great, and the restaurant had a really nice ambiance.
Sam was super friendly and always checked up on us every couple minutes.
Recommend the seafood dish - Bouillabaisse. So good!
For dessert - They had like an Apple Tart with Ice Cream. Literally the best dessert I've had in a while!!!
I have already recommended Bistro Cacao to several business contacts.
Great place. Seems like the portions have gotten smaller.
The food, service, and ambiance were first rate. My lobster and goat cheese omelet was delicious. The bottomless mimosas were a fun addition to our brunch. And the chocolate mousse was beyond great! Adam, our server, made good suggestions that enhanced our dining experience.
Unfortunately due to my allergies, I could not taste the flavor of the food. :=(
What a quaint yet beautiful restaurant. We had a lovely time... Food and service were simply wonderful. When we visit Washington again this will definitely be our place to go for a beautiful evening.
Always the best experience!
Very good food. But very small plates and at a high price. However the noise level was low and it was a very intimate setting.
This is my favorite secret spot for a romantic dinner. I just love the ambiance. The service and food have been consistently magnificent. You just can't beat this place.
The food was delicious (except the bread we were served at the beginning of our meal which was more like ciabatta rather than French bread and was cold). My filet mignon was cooked perfectly and my husband's fish was good as well. All sides were very tasty. We finished our meal with a chocolate mousse and it didn't disappoint. The dulce de leche served with it was rich and moreish.
Love Bistro Cacao! Consistently excellent food!
Wonderful atmosphere and service was the best in the city. Perfect spot to celebrate an anniversary or birthday without a bunch of teenage waiters singing some strange version of the birthday song accompanied by a stale slice of cake with a sparkler stuck in the top. Instead, have a wonderfully delicious meal with time for a quiet conversation, and enjoy the company of your significant other, all the while being pampered by a knowledgeable and attentive waitstaff.
Setting, ambience and service were excellent. Food was great and we enjoyed everything. Onion soup, Endive salad, Stuffed quail and the Lamb Shank. Food was flavorful and rich in taste and seasoning. Slightly disappointed with apple tart as it was mostly pastry without great flavor on the apples or pastry. Would go for a different dessert next time. Drink was a raspberry chambord which was also very good without being overly strong and a good compliment to the meal. Would definitely recommend and go again.
