We enjoyed your 7 years as Bistro Bordeaux and look forward to your next incarnation.
Sunday at Bistro Bordeaux could not have been better - except for one thing - Sunday was BB's last day. We will miss it dearly. However, Pascal B. who is the owner, has 2 other restaurants in Evanston which we fortunately will continue to be able to enjoy. And if he opens any other restaurants - we will be among the first there. So, for those reading this, I (highly) recommend you visit Patisserie Coralie and Creperie Saint Germain. Two gems in Evanston.
Found out that the Bistro is closing. Today is the last day. So very sad to see them go. Definitely was my favorite Brunch place in Evanston.
We have always enjoyed Bistro Bordeau and are sorry too hear it is closing
Miss it already!
Best French dining on the north shore, we will miss it.
Sad they are closing!
The restaurant closed Sunday. Why are you wasting time requesting reviews?
We had a delightful experience. The food was nicely prepared and delicious.
Sadly the restaurant is closing soon. If interested get there before April 15 or so.
We stopped into the bistro for the first time after discovering it in Evanston earlier in the week. It has a European vibe and cozy atmosphere. The steak frites and modules were both very good. We will be back.
We will miss this restaurant when it closes on April 16. We have enjoyed our dinning experience here over the last 7 years and wish Pascal good luck in the future.
The restaurant atmosphere was very pleasant, quite convivial, but unfortunately a bit noisy. We had a table towards the back and there was a lot of traffic to and from the kitchen and to and from the rest homes. We had good drinks. We ordered steak freight and had it split in the kitchen for my husband and myself which was very nicely done. The salad we had was very good but the steak freight was cold, dry with no juices and not well done as we had ordered.
Great service, delicious dinners, three course Wednesday special!
We used to go here all the time. Maybe that was the problem. There is now lots to choose from in Evanston. They were running out of everything, food took so long. Was such a bummer. 2 days later we got an email announcing their closing. I guess that was what was going on. I wish I had known.
The ambiance is GREAT, service good and the selection tantalizing. Very authentic French Bistro food. The food was good, and my fish featured VERY seasonal morel mushrooms( currently being harvested in Indiana), but my delicate fish was over salty.
Bistro Bordeaux was excellent, as always. Not overly complicated; just good choices with good ingredients prepared very well in traditional french fashion.
Food and service were very good.
It wasn't crowded on a rainy Friday..not sure if it was the beginning of spring break or what.. That was the only thing . It lacked energy. I guess it would be ok for a romantic get together or a quiet evening.
Noisy table with 8 shrieking diners next to us ruined the ambiance and made conversation next to impossible.
But I'd go back for the food and the excellent service.
We made our reservation online and did not put anything in the Special Request field. Nevertheless, when the restaurant called to confirm, they asked whether we would be celebrating a special occasion. I admitted our anniversary was coming up. When we arrived, as soon as we were seated, our server brought us flutes of champagne. It was a lovely touch, and it was clear throughout the meal that the entire staff on duty was aware of our occasion -- even the bartender wished us "Happy Anniversary" as we left. While the food wasn't the best French we've ever had (We were lucky enough to visit Le Francais twice during its heyday, and that's a high standard), it was tasty, well-prepared and a good value. But the thing that impressed me most about Bistro Bordeaux was that it's a proper restaurant -- neither stuffy nor overly casual, with a knowledgeable staff and professional service.
Lovely French restaurant. Perfect for romantic dinner or with friends.
Excellent, consistent great French food, good wine in very pleasant atmosphere with capable friendly staff.
We had an 8:00 reservation but was not seated until 8:45. After ordering quickly, our food was not served until 9:30. To make things worse, one dish came cold! Fish portion was ridiculously tiny. We have been going here for years but will never go back.
Portions were very small and not worth the price. We were not pleased with the seating. The woman who served our table was excellent.
Finding that Thursday was "wine by the bottle 50% off" night only made my incredible home made nocki with mushrooms and psrsnips that much for delicious. I love this restaurant.
Terribly disappointed. We were here several years ago and had a great experience. However on this visit we thought the menu was limited and the food not good. I ordered mussels and the the broth was like dish water. We won't be returning.
Went there for a monthly dad and daughter date. Waiter very attentive. Food very good. Excellent pre-dinner Cuba Libre.
We love returning here... food always good as well as the service.
This was our first experience here. We were seated a few minutes after arriving. The very sweet hostess apologized for the delay (which there was none), and I immediately felt like we were going to have a great experience. We MOSTLY did.
Our server could not have been any nicer. My boyfriend asked for a Martini and he said it was 2nd only to Marty's in Andersonville. I tried the Kir Royale. She told me that tonight they were made with Chambord. I had 2; the first one had very little Chambord. The second one was perfect.
The chair I sat in was VERY uncomfortable. I had my coat over the back of the chair, so I folded the hood behind my back and that helped.
I ordered the Salade Lyonnaise and it was DIVINE! The dressing was delicious, the frisee crisp and fresh, the bacon tasty and the egg cooked to perfection. My boyfriend had the house salad and said how tasty the dressing was.
For our entrees, my boyfriend chose Gnocchi and LOVED it! I tasted it and it was fantastic. I ordered the hake fish. The fish was delicate, moist and extremely flavorful, BUT we now come to my major caveat. The portion was EMBARRASSINGLY minuscule. I have NEVER seen such a tiny entree. Truly appetizer-sized. I would say 1" wide and 3" long by 1" high. It was delicious, but there was nothing there. I would say that the prices overall are great, but $24.95 for so tiny an entree is not worth it. I would have paid more for about 50% more food. I'm still stunned. I was away while our food was delivered and when I returned, I was excited. Until I saw my plate.
My boyfriend had the Creme Brulee. It was tasty and smooth. I chose the Profiteroles and they were very good. The ice cream is made in house and the dark chocolate sauce is terrific. The cream puffs themselves weren't the best but were overall good.
Would I go back to Bistro Bordeaux? YES! The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is charming, the service is great and the food is expertly prepared. I just won't order the same entree.
Worst Valentine's Day dinner ever. The sad thing is that we dined there several times previously and really enjoyed it.
Where to begin? Warmly greeted and seated promptly despite the crowd. That was the highlight. A very nice server but the mussels were served luke warm and the portion was modest at best. The steak frites, order medium rare, was served rare. The frites were actually delicious, but couldn't overcome the disappointing entrees. The busy server never came back to ask if everything was okay.
Worst of all, before even asking if we wanted coffee, the server brought us the check without our having asked for it. Obviously they wanted to turnover the table to get one more seating but that was not the way to treat a couple on Valentine's Day. We won't be back. Too many good options to risk another disappointment.
My wife and I dined at Bistro Bordeaux on Valentine's Day, just as we have for the past several years. The ambiance is lovely with candles suspended from the ceiling and the food was very good. However, the service was quite sub-par. The waitress did not stop by once to ask how our meals were. We waited over 25 minutes before our empty dinner plates were removed and another 20 minutes before dessert. The tables were much too close to each other and it looked like they had added very small round tables to try to squeeze in even more people than in the past. Those tables were barely big enough for one person, let alone two. After diners finished, their tables were not cleared for quite some time. Perhaps they would not have to squeeze people in as much if they cleared tables faster. This is a good restaurant with good food. However, we will have to reconsider going there for special occasions such as Valentine's Day.
