Bistro Bis Ratings and Reviews
What was to have been a nice birthday breakfast turned into a major disappointment. At 10:20 a.m. on a Saturday morning, two of us ordered coffee and their bread basket after being told by our unfriendly waitress we could enjoy that course before ordering our main breakfast course when ready. She failed to mention the kitchen closed at 10:30 until coming back to our table at 10:38 (I checked my phone for the time) to inform us it was too late to order breakfast as the kitchen just closed. While we could have managed the disappointment (I the embarrassment as this was meant to be a birthday treat as indicated in my reservation), the surely waitress offered no apology or concern for her error. While I’ve dined at Bistro Bis multiple times and have found the food to be good, this particular experience has soured me from the place and I won’t be back. It’s a shame their service should be so poor.
Been a loyal customer for years and have never been disappointed. Appetizers through desserts are excellent. Staff is proficient and friendly, some of whom have been there for years. Later meal times are recommended because noise level can be a little high at peak times, so try to reserve a booth. Beet salad, crab cakes, tuna nicoise, salmon and anything on dessert menu are recommended.
We ate here on the recommendation of a friend. The experience was average at best. Fabulous lobster bisque and sea bass. Our waiter was professional but indifferent; the duck, ordered medium rare, was served medium well and there were rather long intervals between courses.
This meal was the result of walking by the restaurant earlier in the day and from the outside it looked interesting so we booked reservations for later that evening.
The food was truly slanted to French, very, very good, presented well and of appropriately sized portions. Overall it was of good value and would dine again next time in this part of DC.
I had a very lovely experience at Bistro Bis. The only thing that took away from the meal was that my server was not especially attentive. I started with the octopus, a dish that is very easy to overcook. It was one of the best octopus I have ever had - super tender and tasty. The duck breast was also quite tasty. I could have gotten it a bit under medium and it would have been even better, but it was still good. One thing to note - drinks are super-pricy here!
The ambiance was outstanding as was the service. The menu was varied and the food was prepared much better than I was expecting. This was surprising because the prices were much lower than that of comparable restaurants. Public parking was available at a cheap rate across the street from the restaurant. I would came back, again and again.
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in DC. I've always had a love for this place, and have visited it many times over the years. We took my new husband's parents here, and they loved it! I had the foie gras and the duck, my husband had the french onion soup (which is amazing!!!) and the sweetbreads. It was an amazing dinner!
Food was delicious and service was amazing. Immediately upon being seated we were asked if we had any other plans for the evening that required us to depart by a specified time. The maitre’d ensured he kept us on schedule and we were out the door exactly when we needed to be.
