The food is excellent and the service friendly and efficient. I had a reservation for three people, and two of us arrived together. We were seated. Turns out our friend (who had told the hostess about the reservation as well) was at another table, and it was 15 minutes before we discovered she was there! It was just sad that the restaurant seemed to have no way to indicate that. It was a totally avoidable mistake.

One of the most sophisticated Afghan restaurants in the country. Light years beyond your typical "kabob" place...tasty, well-seasoned Afghan dishes you never knew existed.

The only reason not to recommend Aracosia to a friend is to limit the competition for a table at a reasonable time! And also if the friend is a vegan. While the rice dishes and dumplings are yummy, their heat customisable by the judicious application from the fresh relish/salsa selection placed on each table, it is the meats that triumph. The goat stew fragrant gentle and unctuous. The venison chops, tender, very lean, served on a bed of rice with a finely chopped "green" that just took things to the next level. I could describe each plate on the table with equal enthusiasm. Service is friendly, very informative. The only problem is that I didn't want to talk to my friends, I just wanted to savour the dishes and go to my happy place

My son, who’s down from NYC, wanted to both treat me to a pre-Father’s Day meal and to enjoy a new experience. He’s batting 1.000 with Bistro Aracosia. We are adventurous eaters so we tried the veggie platter. The flavors of the 4 options were exquisite: savory, spicy and sweet. The meat sampler was a mixture of beef and lamb, and all were cooked to perfection. What made us decide that the very high rating this restaurant constantly receives were well earned was the goat. WOW!!! I’m Jamaican and curry goat is arguably our national dish. This Afghan goat over rice with raisins was the best single dish I’ve had in years. I will not try to describe it; just try it!

Interestingly, multiple tables decided to take uneaten food home. We opted to gorge ourselves and then take a walk on the Capital Crescent Trail.

Enjoy Bistro Aracosia!

Amazing food and service. I made the reservation for a date night having never dined here before but was curious about the menu. The seating could not be more perfect near a window and the attention to detail all around...to us, our first experience dinging here could not be more pleasant. Extremely attentive waitress who was present but not overly intrusive. Highly recommend for ambiance and service and I certainly can't leave out the FOOD. Our meal was a true fusion of love, multi-dimensional flavors for our state buds and lovely presentation. Very nice surprise!

Loved every bite but was sorely disappointed that they had no bread that we could eat with the delicious chutneys. All they had was sesame infused bread, which we are allergic to. Please remember people with food allergies! Ambiance is very quiet and pleasant and our waitress was excellent.
Very limited mixed drinks. I sent mine back because it wasn't tasty.
Thanks for the complimentary birthday cake, but you might have mentioned that before we both ordered cake, and we ended up with 3 cakes.

Great for both vegetarians and carnivores. Two of us had lamb dishes, the other a vegetarian dish that I don’t recall but was also delicious. Service was impeccable. Really a find at that price point.

This was my third visit to Bistro Aracosia; the first two were for brunch, this was a Friday night dinner. The restaurant has multiple options for vegetarians, including both familiar and unusual Afghan dishes at a variety of spiciness levels. The meat eaters in the party were also in heaven, particularly loving the lamb appetizer. Eggplant stew with garam masala was a hit; the spinach turnovers and the potato leek turnovers vanished in an instant. Drinks were also special--from the unusual rose to a delicious Negroni to a saffron tea that garnered rave reviews. Leave room for dessert--both the tres leches cake and the cardamom ice cream were yummy. Server was helpful in navigating the abundance of choice. Really a lovely meal--we will be back!
