Server offered easy pace, lively dialogue and a pleasant smile. Food was not rushed, giving us time to soak up the energy of the room.
Salmon carpaccio: original, with a unique bite.
Chicken: cooked perfectly, well balanced.
Butter Lettuce salad: somewhat lacking, too simple
Burger: Fantastic, though preferable (to this eater) without onions
absolutely outstanding service - attentive without being intrusive. beautifully prepared food nicely presented. leisurely pace despite how busy they were. I will go back!
Everything was spot on.
Love the food! Love the decor! Will definitely be back...
Bistro Agnes is probably the BEST restaurant in Portland. My husband and I had 2 different starters which were really good then he had coq au vin and I had a wagyu burger sitting in a bordelaise sauce. It was a fork and knife burger and "out of this world" good. For dessert I had profiteroles in a hot chocolate sauce and he had a rhubarb tart. All this accompanied a bottle of French rose. I can't wait to go back.
Perfect from beginning to end. Delicious food, attentive service, fun atmosphere. Definitely a keeper.
Loved it so much we made a reservation for 3 days later!
Great specialty cocktails-awesome appetizers -entrees where tasty-service was #1
Went for a light dinner before a show.
Service attentive and ambiance welcoming.
Had the mussels for an entree which were good but not great. Many of the mussels were really tiny in size and a few that tasted "dirty" however broth was delicious.
I'll try something else next time.
Could use a vegetarian option on the menu. Two would be better. Visually a very nice restaurant.
Wonderful cuisine, charming ambiance, good service. Love, love, love!!!!
My husband treated me to Bistro Agnes after a friend recommended it (ironically it was immediately after I saw it listed in Eater PDX). One look at the menu and I knew it had great potential to make my occasion's celebration even more special. But I was blown away by the authentic but somewhat restyled french delectable delights. This will be my go to for extra special occasions. It's like a trip to Paris without the long flight - and with much better service! YUMMY perfection.
My second time there and it totally lived up to expectations. Our feiends loved it as well. Can't wait to go back for some of the daily specials.
Delightful new restaurant from the pros at Ox. Delicious food and as always, great service. Not a lot of vegan/vegetarian options but they worked with us and created a special dish for our veg friend.
Tried for first time on Saturday night. So good we went back the next night! Very accommodating and knowledgeable staff. Great decor, especially multi-colored tile floor.
First time at Bistro Agnes. Best French food in PDX. Service was exceptional. The meal was everything we'd hoped for. Highly recommend it.
Main dishes were overly salted! Onion soup was very good. Service was first rate!
Great food, great service. I would definitely come back to try other dishes.
This is gourmet French cuisine at it's finest! The French onion soup is amazing!!!
Great food, attentive service, sensitive to our timing constraints for an after-dinner lecture.
Salad and appetizers were good. Entries were just okay. Mine was a daily special - boudin blanc and foie gras - so I expected fat but not an inescapable soup of it. The prunes stewed in Armagnac were a refreshing touch but not enough to provide the balance this dish sorely needed. I’ll try the menu again but the first visit was underwhelming, especially considering the level at sister restaurants Ox and SuoerBite and the entree prices at Bistro Agnes.
This was my second visit and I decided on the Waygu hamburger @$16 and fries (sold separately).
This comes plated with a rich bordelaise sauce around the perimeter of the plate. The burger is on a light bun which will eventually be used to dip up the sauce (delicious). The meat itself is grilled (to your specification)topped with grilled onions and cheese, this is not conventional burger, but a different experience altogether so if you’re hankering for the traditional burger move on to something else on the menu. This is a very good well prepared hamburger and quite ample in portion. The quality of the meat shines through. The fries are thin cut tossed in salt and parsley flakes, perfectly fried coming with a tasty aioli and catsup. I throughly enjoyed my ‘fine dining’ hamburger experience, looking forward to my next visit to try something new.
The menu is classic French and the quality of the ingredients and preparation is superb. I was especially impressed with the profiteroles which were as good as a fine restaurant in Paris where I lived for 19 years.
Fantastic French take on the food! Great service!
The decor is pleasant , small wine bar (very small) good light w/large windows, to see out of. The mussels were wonderful, this was the last week getting them from Salt Springs in Canada. Certain time of the year they are plumper so I would check before ordering. These were plump, the broth was delicious, well balanced with the fennel, wine, grilled garlic, creme fraīche and thyme. The bread (1/2 small baguette) from Little T was charred perfectly and I appreciated it coming with the mussels (no extra charge) Salmon carpaccio with endive and dill was served with thinly sliced radish, dollops of creme fraīche and salmon 'caviar'. A lovely presentation and nice portion. The quiche du jour was creamy and just the right amount of egg, cheese , spinachwith a butter lettuce and radish salad side, this was a favorite!
We all loved the meals and are looking forward to coming back.....Bravo Gabby&Gregg!
Our table was not ready for our reservation for 15-20 min but the staff was very accommodating while we waited and apologized in several different ways. It all worked out fine.
Bistro Agnes is a great great and much needed addition to the Portland dining scene. Great ambience, cute restaurant, gorgeous bar and great food.
First time here, certainly won't be my last. The food was absolutely delicious, but I was actually even more pleased by the service. Everything was on point.
Best dinner I’ve had in Portland. Perfect Anniversary spot. Amazing service- kind, generous and professional. Can’t recommend enough.
We had a delicious experience at Bistro Agnes. We both selected one of the Portland Dining Month menu options and added the premium wine pairing. The mussels were spectacular! The wines were spot on and the service was attentive and friendly. Can't wait to go back, maybe to try one of their weekly evening specials like boudin blanc with foie gras!
After a fabulous performance of Hamilton at the Keller we were able to enjoy dinner at Bistro Agnes. One of the first questions the waiter asked us was " do you have a timeline or would you like to take your time"? What a treat. We were able to enjoy our company and take our time experiencing a wonderful Portland Monthly dinner. It was delicious . Our waiter made great recommendations for some yummy cocktails also.
I would highly recommend Bistro Agnes and look forward to returning again.
I was recently in Paris and this restaurant brought it all back. Great drinks including a nice selection of Absinthes. The boeuf tartare was excellent as was the boeuf Bourgogne. Attentive helpful service made a great meal better.
We ordered the March dining month menu & all was superb; food melted in our mouths & the wine pairings were balanced w/each meal. The service was top notch & we were well attended to. We have a new place to go to for our anniversary dinner in August.
Excellent food and service. One of us had the daily chef's special - Coq au Vin on homemade pasta, one of us had the Boeuf Bourgignon, and I had the Petrale Sole. All of us were very happy with our dinners. Not too noisy, very nice environment. Would definitely return.
Shared the lemon tart with Chantilly Cream for dessert. We felt it needed to have a more intense lemon flavor,
During the last week of Restaurant Month, we had a practically perfect meal. We ordered the Rest Month menu and every course, from the amuse bouche to dessert, was just excellent. I have eaten mussels in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland and London and I have often prepared them myself, but I have never had any that were cooked any better. And the sauce was the most inventive and delicious I think I have ever had (There's a place called Fishy Fishy in Kinsale that might serve its rival. Might.) And my wife's pork belly was equally wonderful. We recommend Bistro Agnes to anyone, any time, and we will definitely put it on our Portland "Must" list.
First class service and food. French food, traditionally prepared with flavor-forward profiles. Attention to detail throughout--beautiful space, French music, fresh aprons (yes, I notice), and lots of good vibes from people who love what they're doing.
Especially enjoyed the endive salad and a chance to taste the Bleu d'Auvergne. Also, the chicken mousse (terrine/pate?) was superb. Mussels large, plump, fresh--I would have liked a little more wine or aromatic in the sauce; very plentiful to share. Pork belly was on point with delicate beans and true baby spinach. The only drawback was the ill-conceived ( à mon avis) plate of rice pudding, covered with copious toasted almonds. Drizzle of caramel didn't help. Perhaps a Tergoule would work--with a tuile or chocolate medallion or fruit?
Last note: We shared an onion soup and got a taste of the taste of Bistro Agnes' heart--courageous, generous, forward-thinking, with a consummate French accent. What an amazing gift we have in Bistro Agnes.
Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Definitely worth a visit or two or three.
We were inspired to try it on the Dining Month, so one of us had that menu while the other ordered a la carte. We loved our meals (especially the mussels) and are going back in 2 weeks to celebrate 2 birthdays, introducing friends to the restaurant. We also loved the fact that we could actually hold a conversation without yelling. This is something that will differentiate it from many other good restaurants in Portland and make it my preferred choice. My mussels and the steak tartare were the best I have had in Portland (20 years). I would easily order both of those dishes again. We look forward to our next visit soon.
One of the overall better restaurants I’ve been to in a while. Service is impeccable, food is amazing, great wine selection. I’ll definitely return!
They seated us on time for our reservation. The food is wonderful, just what you’d find in a French Bistro. Service was good and unhurried . Definitely will recommend and return.
The food was great as were the small extra touches. We started with drinks and an appetizer next door at Kask. Our table was ready before we could finish our drinks, so the hostess let us know that they would happily transport our drinks from Kask to our table at Bistro Agnes. We appreciated that! We were also given a tasty amuse bouche of warm leek soup with smoked paprika oil. We attended during Portland dinning month, and one of our party of two ordered the dining month tasting menu. When dessert arrived, our waitress surprised us with two portions of their decadent rice pudding. Again, the service and food were all excellent. My only criticism was that the prices were a bit higher than I would like given the portion sizes - but the excellent service and taste make up for that.
