Wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The food was excellent and the Dirty Grandma Agnes is a must have .
i am originally from Belgium and the Belgian cuisine is not that much different from the cuisine of Northern France/Paris. It was nice to get a taste of home. Service was excellent and food was delicious.
Great food great place recommend everyone try it
Food and services were very good. We’re there for the Portland Dining Month; we also ordered from the menu. I really like the way the way the pork belly was done; crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I was a little concerned about ordering the pork belly because it tends to be fatty but not this time. Very well done! The staff were friendly and attentive. Great selection of wines and cocktails. Definitely will come back.
Everything about our evening was perfect. The food of course was wonderful and very fairly priced. The quality of food and wine exceptional, and the ambience just lovely. I
Must comment on the service. It was perfect. Just enough “being there”
And no “in your face.” Also no attitude. There was a perfect awareness of where we were with out meal and a willingness to enhance our experience. Someone has spent a lot
Of time figuring out the fine line between overbearing or obsequious and extremely present and helpful Can’t be wit to go back. The menu had so many more avenues to explore!
The food was delicious, the service excellent and altogether it was a first rate dinner. We will definitely go there again. Though it is a new addition to the Portland dining scene, Bistro Agnes is already a strong contender for the top rank of Portland restaurants.
Everything was excellent ! Can't wAit to go back!
Wonderful food and attentive, helpful service.
I'm not sure I want to write a review and risk making this place too popular!
The atmosphere was professional but we felt pressured to order quickly and the bill was presented almost as we received dessert. There were several empty tables. Food was overly salted. Cassoulet was ok but sausage was dry, dish seemed reheated- too fast perhaps?
PDX Dining Month: Decent prices, for high quality offerings, moderately robust flavor profiles, and AMAZING wine pairings. Plus the atmosphere was very pleasant, staff was FANTASTIC, and it was beautiful. Highly recommended for additional experiences with the rest of the menu.
This was my second visit. I came back to have the Petrale Sole Meujiere again. The first vista it was divine. The second over cooked and fishy. The rest of the meal was lovely. Off night.
Amazing menu and some of the best service in the city. Our bill was high but well worth it for the total experience.
Portland Dining Month gave us the perfect opportunity to try this new spot - so glad that we did so! Overall it was a delightful meal with attentive and knowledgable wait staff and delicious food. The portions were surprisingly large for French cuisine and a dining month menu. The only disappointment was being initially shown to the worst table in the place (closest to the kitchen and bathroom access) and having to request a different table. Though we were promptly accommodated, that was poor form by the hostess.
Very traditional French menu, which I appreciate . Friendly but not pushy staff. Excellent food quality.
Great value for Portland Dining month. I ordered the wine to accompany my meal and didn't realize I was getting the premium wine selection which made an otherwise great value meal suddenly a bit pricey. The dessert was average which is not what I would expect from a French bistro. But for $33 for three-courses, it was excellent value and a great way to sample a new restaurant in downtown Portland.
Good food, nice ambience, good location - will definitely return!
Bistro Agnes offers delicious, classic French food, filling a serious gap in the Portland food scene. The foie gras appetizers and dessert were both amazing, the cocktails and wine were great, the mussels and short rib entrees were both delicious. You could easily make an entire meal of appetizers, but there were so many tempting entree choices as well! We will definitely be back again - I see this becoming a favorite restaurant.
Impeccable from start to finish. Every dish was flawless and the service was delightful friendly, not pretentious!
Bistro Agnes is every bit as wonderful as you hoped. As real a French bistro as you'll find anywhere: in the dishes offered, the unchanging daily special. Crisp salads, authentic flavors, hearty entrees that don't need anything else to round out the meal. But, it would be a shame to miss the endive salad and the riz au lait.
The one thing missing - but provided if you ask - is baguette and sweet butter.
It's a guarantee: the first visit will not be the last visit.
It was a great menu for Portland Dining Month; I loved that the items are currently on their menu, so I can go back and get them again!
This was my first meal at Bistro Agnes, but it won't be my last. The food and service were all excellent. There are several other items on the menu that I want to go back to try. It is a great new French restaurant for downtown Portland.
Excellent French cuisine , friendly professional service
Another pleasant surprise from Portland Restaurant Month as we had not been here before. From walking in things looked cozy and although our table was a bit drafty to start with they did warm the restaurant. We each ordered the opposite of the monthly menu and very happy. My wife’s pate was a large portion and very well made. My endive salad was equally large and well dressed. Her mussels were a full entree size and well prepared. My pork belly with bean ragout was excellent despite not finding the fried capers. The dessert was okay but riz au lait would never be my choice. There were 2-3 desserts priced the same and would have finished the meal better.
It is no wonder these were James Beard Awards chefs and any time we need a little French fix we will be back. Love this place.
Our recent visit was my first visit and I absolutely loved it. The butter leaf lettuce salad was crisp and wonderful, onion soup had hints of thyme (I think) and it was just perfect. I ordered the frogs gras appetizer with sauterne gelee and it brilliant. I can't wait to go again!
Wonderful special occasion spot. Allow plenty of time to fully enjoy.
We went for Portland Dining Month, and though the Prix - fixe menu selections were excellent, chose to order off the regular menu instead. We shared 2 appetizers, and each enjoyed a different entree - fish, chicken and beef. All were excellent - no room for dessert - we'll be back!
Very enjoyable. The food selected for PDM was a great introduction to the quality of the dining experience available here. The wine pairing was good and the service was knowledgeable and friendly but didn't hover. The seafood was lovely and I would recommend this place for anyone in need of great food downtown.
This place is another great French restaurant to go to. The people we're friendly and the foot was fantastic.
Cozy seating but great ambiance overall. Food is amazing. Unpretentious despite having great provenance, which is more than I can say for other less deserving restaurants I have visited.
4 of us made a first time visit. Food review amongst us was mixed with couple of dishes very good to a couple that were without any wow factor, just OK. We had 7 dishes between us and one dessert. The Profit---. Good but not special. If I compared this place with say Bistro Maison in McMinnville then I would pick Bistro Maison for sure. Sorry, we had high expectations but they really weren't met. The service was good, however. But I got a short pour on a glass of wine but our server remedied it.
Nice. Came for dining month event.
Server was amazing! Prompt and allowed us to enjoy our special birthday evening. I will be back!
First time since restaurant changed from Super Bite which we loved. It was a wonderful evening with great service and outstanding food. Onion soup was over the top!
We had a delightful dinner! The Duck confit was excellent, and I enjoyed the Asbinthe drinks!
Great French food.
Another bright star in Portland's glittering Sky of excellent restaurants. The cassoulet is the best single dish I've had in this great culinary city.
People and food are wonderful. Book in advanced it fills up fast on Saturdays.
Excellent French bistro classics. Bistro Agnes fills a void in Portland where it seemed impossible to find authentic French bistro dishes like escargots, cassoulet and coq au vin. We will definitely be returning on a regular basis.
So great. Proper French comfort done by people who know what’s up. Great service. Everything we had was awesome.
Reminds me of why we were in love with French cuisine for so long. Time for a comeback!
