Bistro 109 Ratings and Reviews
Had a reservation for 7pm and arrived near 6:55, noone met us as we walked in, the bartender finally came oiut ask our name but left is standing. Several others came it was confusion as if they were not prepared.
Finally my small party were seated at a huge table by the front door, far to big for us to sit at comfortably and talk. By the front door it wss drafty, cold because many were coming in and too being left standing, we always had people hoovering over us, it was the most uncomfortable I have ever been at a restaurant in 50 years.
Next was service....or lack of.
We sat for almost a half hour before our order was taken.
The waitress forgot my drink, forgot the appetizers we ordered to start.
I believe that because we were put into that oversized large table we were forgotten because we rarely seen our waitress.
When our order came after 50 minutes of waiting it was incorrect. I had ordered my steak medium well, it was brought extra rare, my wife ordered wine, it never came, luckily we had water to drink.
I could bot eat but 4 bites off my steak it had huge gristles in it.
No one ever came to check on us, no manager, waitress activity was almost zero. We ask for bread she never came back with it, all in all it was about the worst experience I ever had period.
We even wanted to order dessert but our waitress left us sitting after our meal with out so long I just decided to cut my losses and leave.
I will say the piano was a nice touch and the pianist was the only good thing about my Valentine's evening.
Last year we came here for our anniversary, this year we came back again for our 30th wedding anniversary. I had booked reservation well in advance and requested a cozy romantic spot. We were going to be seated in the middle of the room till I requested a booth. The waitress came took my husband drink order, I asked for a couple minutes to look at the menu, she comes back with his drink and NEVER ask what I would like, I had to ask someone else to get a drink. Rolls were called and overall the food was just not that good, especially when you get a filet and its $50, I didn't even see that price on the menu. Service was not good, waitress checked on us one time but was more than helpful with the table behind us. It wasn't like there were extremely busy there were a number of empty seats. Sad to say we will not be returning to this place, this was not a way for us to celebrate 30 years of marriage, this was supposed to have been a great dinner but it was not
I WOULD NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. This was a special occasion for Valentine's Day. The waitress was scatterbrained and gave no details about any of the food on the menu. She didn't offer to tell us about any specials or give suggestions as to any of the best dishes on the menu. The bread was cold. We ordered hamburger steak and when it came out. It was two prepattied frozen hamburger patties. They were gross and had NO flavor. What came with it was called burgundy mushroom sauce. It looked like a can of cream of mushroom soup with mushrooms added to it. It was nasty. The mashed potatoes were instant mashed potatoes with added garlic and they were cold and tasted just as bad. When we told the manager that the food wasn't good and had no flavor. We were told very rudely that, "We were free to go." Who treats people like that. And who serves frozen prepattied hamburger patties for hamburger steak?
We chose Bistro 190 from a Groupon offered and the value was fabulous. We bought two steak dinners and they were delicious. We then added a great martini (thanks Brittany!) and desert - my husband had the coconut cake which he loved and I had the orange peel-infused creme brulee, which was beyond delicious. We would go back in a heartbeat, and since we were there at 8pm, and on a Thursday, the place was intimate, quiet and lovely. The only thing missing was the piano playing we'd heard about, but the food more than made up for that!
We absolutely loved finding this spot! From walking in the doors, our waitress, food and leaving it was great. We found this randomly and it was a wonderful experience. Our steaks were actually cooked to our order, appetizers were great. Honestly the best experience in a while eating out. And desserts are to die for. The creme brulee...hands down the best!!!
We found the restaurant using OpenTable, and made the reservation. When we arrived, the place was empty, save a couple of folks at the bar. Service was acceptable: just as expected, but not particularly strong either. The bread and pesto provided were excellent. The goat cheese appetizer and tomato jam was AMAZING! Get it. It was fabulous, and enough to share. The entrees were good, but not outstanding. Our table had the scallops (seared well, but a bit underdone), and the veal (the better option). Sides were so-so. The bill wasn't bad for a date, though.
Go for appetizers and drinks, and it's a great place. Choose someplace stronger for a nice dinner.
We saw some good reviews about this restaurant and like to eat at locally-owned restaurants, especially when we travel. However, the reviews did not match the meal. Started with the cheese plate which consisted of 9 slices of various Cracker Barrel cheese, a scoop of goat cheese, some fruit that obviously was cut much earlier, and a small cup of plain pimento olives you'd buy at the grocery store. Not worth $10. Meal wasn't much better. We both had the trout, which came in a generous serving. However, overcooked and no seasoning. Crab meat stuffing was bland. But the real kicker was the side dishes -- canned green beans and boxed cous cous. That's right, the same stuff you'd buy at the grocery store. Literally -- THE-SAME-STUFF. Service was very good and attentive. Wine list was interesting and we liked that it made suggested dinner pairings. However, this meal could have been cooked at home for 3/4 of the price! If you do go, do what we heard other diners doing -- using a coupon from one of those group websites. However, we heard them also discussing the canned green beans.
The food was good. We used a Groupon which gave us $80 meal for 2 for $50. I don't feel the meal would have been worth the full price. Even though we were some of the earliest diners, the only appetizer we wanted, was out. Ambiance, service was above average but I do feel it wasn't worth the full price
Bistro 109 was one of the best fine dining experiences I’ve ever had. Our server Issac was amazing and upon arrival I was Greeted by name. The service was stellar and I would Recommend this place to anyone! Definitely 5 stars! I have Not one bad thing to say nor would I recommend any change! The next time I go Back to Tennessee I will Definitely be making reservations again.
We were in town for a couples trip, and we decided to give this off-the-beaten-path place a try. SO GLAD we did! Ambiance is romantic. Soft piano music. Impressively stocked bar. Impeccable service. And the food... oh my... We had goat cheese balls with tomato jam for an appetizer, and it was so rich, creamy, and just the right size for each of us to have a quick bite before our entrees. And the entrees... My husband had one of the best ribeyes either of us have ever tried. I had the sundried tomato pesto pasta with chicken. It was so fresh and delicious! I'm craving it now just thinking about it. The desserts were also out of this world. This is a hidden gem. We're already planning another trip to the Smokies and can't wait to eat here again!
Where do I begin? First we were running tardy but when we walked in the host immediately recognized us and took us to a black linen tableclothed table. Very intimate, there was a pianist playing both classics and modern music. The wine list gave suggestions for food pairings. The servers were dressed business casual not stuff, so it was good for a casual or fine dining experience.
The server was very accommodating and carried himself as a manager.
Appetizers: frog legs with a sweet chili sauce and fried goat cheese with tomato jam (4 balls the size of tennis balls)
Entrees: roast duck breast with maple syrup glaze, garden veggies, and couscous; as well as Lamb chops with a berry sauce garden veggies and couscous. Our server stated the menu was all of their best selling items throughout 11 years of service.
I had a Malbec and we denied dessert due to being so incredibly full.
The decor was amazing and the restaurant/bathrooms were clean. Chairs could be updated but it was no deterrent.
We had an excellent experience at Bistro 109 for our 2nd anniversary. We were immediately greeted and they recognized our reservation right away and offered us seating options. We chose to sit near the pianist which was a wonderful addition to the dining experience. Our server Isaac was fantastic and took care of us at all times. The ambience was romantic, the music was great, and the food was delicious and well worth the money! The prices were very reasonable as well, a much better bargain than any other place in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg! Highly recommend!
We are local and this place has great atmosphere and wonderful food. However they need serious work on the service. I have actually privately contacted the manager in the past about the poor service here and seemingly inexperienced staff. We went back a few nights ago hoping things have changed and sadly not. It was fairly busy and we were seated for some time without anyone coming over to our table. The manager was chatting with personal friends who were eating there and the girl working there seemed to have no clue what she was doing and totally flustered. As far as I saw she was the only server there being assisted occasionally by the manager. Finally the girl came over to us and asked to take drink orders. We saw the writing on the wall so we placed our entire order. Salads, followed by steaks.
First she came back because she forgot how I wanted my steak cooked. No big deal. Never brought any bread so finally the manager asked if we would like bread. Few minutes later she came out with our steaks. I asked what about our salads? She said "oh you didn't get them?" (Our table was empty sans water and she is the only server) so she gave us the steaks and went to the kitchen and grabbed salads. Nice girl just seemed very unsure of what was going on. I'm disappointed because this place is very close to our house and we love running there for dinner because we love the atmosphere and they really do have very good food. But the service issues really ruin it. I won't even go into last time we were there it was horrible (again the server not the food) for me to contact a manager which I have never done before I felt it was in their best interest to be aware. They need to hire more experienced help and perhaps Have more than one person serving.
Wonderful experience, great food and quite ambiance to be able to talk with your partner. Another nice touch was the gentleman playing the piano. Again at a volume you could talk and still enjoy the music. This was a welcome find for a fine dining experience away from the madness of most of the eateries in the area. If you like a well prepared dinner in a upscale setting this is for you!
We really enjoyed our evening at Bistro 109. The food was great and the service friendly and attentive. After our meal we spent some time at the bar enjoying the live piano playing and interaction with fellow diners. A fun, enjoyable evening was had by all.
We sat at a table next to people eating fish and it was a pretty strong fish smell and I hate fish. We have eaten there before and this is the first time this happened. This was also the first time we heard the live piano music. The pianist was very good, but was quite loud for the small room and made it hard to communicate. The food was very good and we went with a Groupon and we will definitely go back.
This was our first time to have a party at the Bistro 109 . The whole thing from start to finish
was the best experience I have ever had. I was so stressed about trying to pull off this surprise
party then at the last minute I found out that I couldn't bake the cake. I called the Bistro and
asked if they made cakes, the nice gentlemen on the phone said yes no problem. I told him
the cake had to be the most chocolate cake they could make. When they brought out the cake
and Harrell blew out the candles the owner asked me if the cake was to my satisfaction because
they put in 62 regular size hershey candy bars plus other chocolate. I was overwhelmed with how it was their top priority that all our needs were met. The best place to go when you're in town and if you live here in town you can still have a great experience
Really bad service.. waiter checked on us maybe every 15 minutes. Never once came to ask us how our dinner was after he brought it. Got our appetizers wrong (after I mentioned to my wife I bet he screws something up since he didn't write anything down). Food wasn't great at all. They claim to be upscale dining..not close. I would compare the food experience to a coney island or big boy restaurant.
There were several other tables complaining about their service and food when we were there as well. I would stay far away from this place.
