Birroteca - Baltimore

I went with a friend for restaurant week and we had a wonderful time. I've been to birroteca a few times before and always had good experiences, but don't always love restaurant week because it's too crowded, limited menu and wait staff tends to seem overly busy. None of those things happen this time. Food was delicious and there were large portions considering it was restaurant week.
The only negative was that the restaurant week menu was a little heavy on meatballs and sausage and more varied options could have been available.
Delicious-- came by at restaurant week and had our choice of some amazing menu options. Cocktails were outstanding, as was the food! Highly recommend.
This was our first time visiting Birroteca - we wanted to give it a try during Restaurant Week. During a week when most restaurants "skimp" on portions, our selections on the menu were substantial enough that we stuffed our faces & still had plenty leftover to take home. Great craft cocktails, pizza, mushroom risotto and brussels sprouts were all winners. Service was prompt and attentive. Look forward to the next visit! Thanks!
While I love this restaurant, the risotto was very sub-par. Wish I'd skipped the pre-fix menu.
Went for brunch. Got stuck by a loud large party out of sight. Think the server forgot about us. Had ordered the bottomless mimosas but only got one because she never came back. We went because of restaurant week but the server did not explain how it worked so we didn’t understand that the appetizer portions were shareable. The food was good and the portions were generous. We will give it another try sometime but first impression was not great.
The staff is poorly trained. The ambience is undesirable. No music and you basically have to listen to everyone's conversations, since there is no space between tables.
It was wonderful and the food was excellent!
We (my wife and I) made a reservation because of Restaurant Week. The place was busy as expected. We arrived at the appointed time and only had to wait five minutes to be seen to our table, though we entered by the bar and it took a while for us to find where the hostess stand was. Our table was upstairs which doesn't quite have the ambiance of downstairs, but it was quieter.
We ordered beers from the excellent selection. While we did make a reservation because of Restaurant Week, it was actually the main menu that we decided to order from, (though the offerings for restaurant week looked both delicious and substantial.) The calamari was fantastic. Not a single rubbery bite as can often be found when eating squid. For the main we shared the duck, family size. Spectacular! Crispy skin, tender, juicy meat, and a portion of arugula salad on the side.
I would certainly recommend to my friends and family, though I would tell them to try and be seated downstairs. Thank you for a great time!
Fantastic service, warm and cozy atmosphere, excellent food.
We had a small work celebration for nine, including staff that was fantastic. Food delivery was a bit chaotic and mismanaged by the kitchen and server. Pretty much everything came at once... except for two entrees which took much longer than everyone else's. So the table was piled high and stacked and crammed full which was awkward. The meatballs are always a hit here: tender, smooth and full of flavor. The Caesar was rather plain and over priced. Everyone enjoyed there pastas and gnocchi.
Charming atmosphere with excellent service and wonderful food. Menu allows a broad choice of options.
We will be back!
We really enjoyed our visit, and plan to return. Thanks for a wonderful evening
Hosted my business holiday dinner for my staff of 8 with a reservation. Seemed like the restaurant was unprepared and the server was over booked with tables. Our food was poorly done and barely sauced and took a very long time. I was hopeful with an experienced restaurant they would be able to handle my holiday party and was sorely disappointed, I will definitely be hosting my small dinner elsewhere next year.
The spicy veggie pizza was really, really good.As was the crispy cauliflower appetizer.
Our server was kind of rushing us but we wanted a leisurely dining experience... but it was NYE. When we left there were many empty tables available!
Perfect evening with so many delicious vegetarian options!
We have been to Birroteca on three or four separate occasions and each time was better than the last. The pizzas are great, we’ve had a prosciutto and arugula one, a grilled octopus pizza, a sweet and spicy pork belly pizza, and a margherita pizza. None have disappointed. I don’t often like doughy, bready pizzas, so these pizzas are everything to me. Great balance of topping to dough. Service was perfect, so attentive and helpful, when I knocked over the charcuterie appetizer plate, they brought us a new one without delay, and only one joke from the server, haha. The drinks are great, I generally drink draft or wine, and they have plenty of local craft style beers to choose from! I even saw a hard kombucha on the menu! If you haven’t tried Birroteca, make it the next place on your list!
We had a wonderful meal. The only comment I have is that I think you really need to add a vestibule to the rear entrance of the restaurant. We were seated first at at a table relatively near that door and, despite the curtain that was intended to reduce drafts, were treated to an icy blast every time the door opened. Thankfully, the maître d’ moved us to another table. Everything else was super!
Our server was so lovely. Very engaging and made great recommendations. The food was great.
Awesome waitress! Delicious food! Highly recommend
We had a reservation for a group of seven (and a half : ) and enjoyed a very good meal and drinks in a nice relaxed setting. It's hard to beat their unique selection of "artisan" pizzas and creative drink menu. This was our second visit in about a month's time and didn't disappoint. A minor point was service could have been a bit more attentive, but the restaurant was somewhat busy at the time. Overall a very nice experience. DP, Bel Air.
Food was warm at best not hot in anyway. Not a jam packed time do no excuse mix drink expensive haven’t been here for 18 months
Seems as though it is bar first then a restaurant
We have been there few times. Food is great!Had reservation but sat right by door where non reserved tables were. Hostess was on phone for 5 minutes before she seated us. Told people before us without reservations that their table was only one for non reservations yet we sat right next to them.
The kitchen was backed up and two of our salads did not come out till after we got our pizzas so we asked for them. Our desserts didn’t come out for over 25 minutes so we had to ask again. The server gave us our salads and desserts for free which was a nice gesture.
We drove 1.5 hours to go and meet family to celebrate my sister’s birthday and Christmas together. The service was disappointing this time especially since we were were there to celebrate two special occasions and we drove so far to get there.
The restaurant is beautiful and the food is delicious, I hope the kitchen was just off or something.
Restaurant was crowded, and we didn't get the table we had reserved, but we were seated at a high top communal table and we were told we'd be the only ones there. OK, but it was in front of a door, and it was cold outside. Waiter was a bit casual and a little too laid back. We had to stop him to put in our drink orders, but we got all our delicious food in good time.
Duck was huge and extremely tasty as was the Caesar salad.
Ever since moving to MD 10 years ago from NE, we have been looking for a good Italian restaurant in MD. And how did we miss this place till now?!
We love it. Love it . Love it.
It has an excellent menu that has the same outstanding quality food to go with. It adds the winning touch by offering just right selection of the beers, and they are GOOD beers, to accommodate our complex desire: good beers with good cuisine.
I thought about skipping the review so it can remain hidden from others . 😉
Food was good but everything came at the same time. Food got cold as we could not enjoy each course. Would not return
Service was terrible for the second visit in a row. This time we had to ask for her to take our drink order. Main course arrive before we had finished appetizers. And, one of our main courses, a family dish which two of the four of us were going to share, was wrong. While the food, when what you order arrives, is typically very good, but the service has gone downhill to the point it will be some time before I try Birroteca again.
Our server was terrible! Pizzas on the table and no dishes to serve onto
There was a loud party in the bar which Made Normal Conversation at our table impossible
The dining room was cold and drafty
This is the second time we visited Birroteca; the first time we sat at the bar, and we enjoyed the experience: service was excellent and the food was good. This last time, instead, we sat in the restaurante area and though the food was good, the service was simply unacceptable. It seemed as our waitress did not want to serve us, yet she would come often to check on the customers sitting on the table next to ours. I had to get up and ask, twice, if they could send our waitress to our table, to order additional items and drinks. On a separate note: it is quite sad to use white paper to protect the white linen tablecloths... it just looks terribly cheap.
We were seated in the bar and right away felt a festive, fun vibe. Families with young kids, couples and friend groups all looked like they were having fun and enjoying the delicious food. Cool building. We went with pizza on our minds but after looking at the menu, we each ordered different dishes. The pizza was excellent as were the meatballs and risotto. Great evening!
great menu, lots of unique and flavorful items, with generous servings!
Birroteca is a cool place, and we had great service, but the food leaves a lot to be desired, especially given the price.
For the most part, it's pizza, and while not bad, it's not worth $20+ per pie. Folks talk about the great beer selection, but these days, craft beer is no longer something special. Pizza + beer + appetizer or dessert puts you around $40, and while fair for Baltimore, the quality doesn't justify the cost.
Bottom line, you can do better.
Something must have been off in the kitchen tonight, because the food is normally quite good. Scallops were underdone. Pizza was piping hot, but the other two dishes were cold. We also asked for the charcuterie to be brought out with the entrees, but it was brought out with the appetizers. On the plus side, the beers were cold and the ambience was pleasant.
Love the ambiance!! Best Brussel sprouts EVER!!! Food is always good and especially love the atmosphere when the weather gets cool. A warm and inviting feeling! Food was very good ... service was fine... actually good but not exceptional
We were first seated upstairs but it was so noisy the three of us could not hear each other talk. We asked to be moved downstairs and were quickly accommodated. Much nicer noise level. Food is always fantastic. They were very busy, but service was still great. My food was served before the others which I thought was a little odd. But everything worked out great. Always a fun enjoyable experience.
The food was pretty good, though not quite great. Their salads are fantastic. The pizza toppings and sauce are good, but the crust is more like a frozen pizza. The service is friendly but slow. We did really like the atmosphere, it's a neat environment. And we liked the fact that they actually have parking, rare for that neighborhood. A good option, though there are better options with all the restaurants in that area.
Despite having a reservation was seated at the worst table in the room next to the kitchen. Service was average food was fine nothing notable.
We did the happy hour in the bar and it was great. The food was excellent and the price was unbelievably low. Atmosphere at the bar was nice.
