Birk's Ratings and Reviews
Martin was amazing. The food was perfect. The noise level - unbearable. Everything was perfect until they seated a party of 20 in the small room we were sitting in and then the evening was ruined. My friends and I could no longer hear each other over the din. No more conversation. No more relaxing, enjoying each other's company. Then the group of 20 started giving speeches and we just left. Completely unfair to do that to your other customers.
Steak and seabass were quite good although too salty. Kid's pasta was good but with too many herbs so the kid refused to eat it. Lettuce from complimentary kid's veggies had bitter taste. Complimentary cheesecake for the birthday was awful. Sorbet was so much better.
We've been here before and on weekends there is no corkage fee, with that said the steaks and seafood that we had as our entre was delicious and cooked perfectly. The Caesar Salad was as it should be with my sweetheart having a Kale salad that she also commented favorably on. I would and have recommended Birk's to others and they have already eaten there or go soon after.
Very good food, mostly for steaks and chops.... but the sea bass dish was bland and uninspired.
My New York was very tasty and tender.
Wait staff was fairly attentive, but I noticed that when our waiter said that he would bring us some bread and butter, it took about 10-15 minutes...
Desserts were good with the exception of the carrot cake.... so bad that half a dozen people tried small pieces of it and all of them agreed that it was almost inedible. The waiter asked what we wanted to do with it... really? Did not offer to replace it or take it off the bill.... it could simply have been a bad day for carrot cakes, but we will never order that again....
On the other hand, the Creme Brulee and the chocolate mousse cake were thumbs up.
We are frequent diners at Birk's. We generally restrict our visits to Sundays because it is a very "energetic" meeting place for business folks during the week. This time we took a chance on a Monday because it was near Christmas and we thought business dinners might be on a break at this time. We were wrong. So we asked for the quietest area if there was any, and they accommodated us pretty well, kind of tucked in a corner near the end of the bar. We regularly go to Birk's for their prime rib, which we consider among the best in the mid-and north-county area. We can't really comment on their other menu options, because their prime rib is our go-to order. It comes with mashed or baked potato (on request) and a delicious not-too-creamy creamed spinach with little bits of bacon in it. Just simply delicious and a terrific way to get your red meat fix, if you're still addicted to carnivorous behaviors. They also make a great whiskey sour and have a fine, generous-sized wine list.
My only complaint is a relative small one I suppose, but our Chopped salad frankly looked like it came out of a bag...a two day old bag at that. Totally lifeless and brown. I probably should have sent it back, but our waiter was running his legs off and I didn't want to do that to him.
I had the New York with the Crab baked potato...wonderful, and my fiance had the Small filet...again, very very nice.
I know it is difficult, but when a couple comes in alone, maybe a little effort could be given not to set them next to a table of 8 with kids. They may have had a rodeo clown too..very loud...lol
Birks is known for steaks and prime rib. That's why you go there. You always want a reservation. Be advised, it's noisy as the acoustics of the dining areas are not so great. But go ahead anyway, have a drink at the bar and enjoy some real prime grade steaks.
Birk's charges a lot of money for their entrees, which have not been that upscale, despite the high price tag. I had lamb chops and the meat was chewy and full of tendons. This for a hefty price of 62$! You can get a much better quality of meat at LB Steakhouse for the same or less.
Just the absolute best steak around, made even more delicious by the perfectly prepared vegetables! Perfect for my paleo lifestyle, and the non-paleo family members love it too, for the delicious side dishes such as crab topped baked potato or spinach risotto. A perfect place for our family get together once a month:-)
I made a reservation a day in advance for a party of four, but when we arrived there was no table available and we had to wait just like everyone else--very annoying.
The food was great, but the service was fair, the reservations are apparently meaningless and it is extremely noisy.
Great bar. Classic steakhouse appeal and menu. Good food. We enjoyed sitting at the bar with a nice selection of draft craft brews and nice wine list. Good bar service and good food too. 4-5 TVs tucked up into back of the bar do not interfere with the dining room for more formal dining. But I prefer the bar.
For a business meal in Santa Clara, this is a solid choice - and has been for years. The food is always good and the service is professional. If the pricing were better and the noise level lower, I would suggest this place for more than just business meals. Until then, highly recommended for business meals - not so much for a meal with friends or romantic night out.
Birks has always been a fantastic place. Great prime rib. Excellent service.
This particular evening the prime rib was tough and very fatty, as well as salty. The paella pasta dish was salty and the mussels had a bit of a problem. Three of the six dishes at our table were not to our expectations.
The chicken dish and the two fillets as well as the Brussels sprouts, truffle Mac n cheese were fantastic.
This night was an anomaly. Of the many times I’ve been to Birks over many years, this is the first I was not entirely happy.
The wait staff was good, attentive and quick, as it usually is.
I’ll be back there. Soon.
