Another superb meal with several world class dishes. A spectacular dish of trout inside cedar on fir needles, fired and served smoking, was one of best seafood dishes I’ve ever had. A deceptively simple guinea “hen leg” that was actually a much more complex arrangement of hen was wonderful. The duck dish, grilled breast with accompanying cuts from the duck, was even improved from last time I was here, just terrific. A complex carrot dish was also excellent. Desserts were disappointing, with yoghurt and other “healthy” ingredients that tasted like a weight watchers meal. (Most SF restaurants, even Quince, have really let their desserts slip in recent years, sadly).
Overall, a fascinating and remarkable meal. Tasted great and lots of fun to eat. An emphasis on using the whole animal actually improved made me appreciate familiar meats in new ways. Preparations look simple but are very complex, but you can taste all the different subtle variations of flavors. The technical quality of the execution is top notch.
Some of the dishes were on salty side, and too much sauce, the only dish I would like and can remember was the pine needle sorbet, the rest of desserts were very sweet. Service was nice, but definitely overrated
This restaurant was just so good. The "bacon and eggs" (a fried porcetta tube filled with caviar on a dollop of reduced egg yolk) was a party in my mouth. Service was flawless and the space is so sexy. Well-deserved Michelin star, wouldn't surprise me if they can grab a second.
Wonderful experience, albeit pricey. We had a great time as the service and ambience are off the charts, and the food was truly delicious.
Incredible, one of the best meals of my life. As innovative and visually appealing as it was incredibly tasty. I had time constraints and they couldn’t have been cooler about adapting to my schedule. It wound up being a lot of food to consume in an hour and a half, I would recommend doing it at their pace.
My wife and I recently ate at Birdsong to celebrate her birthday. We had heard a lot about the restaurant beforehand, but honestly the experience exceeded our expectations in every way. The restaurant recently received a michelin star but it already felt like a three star experience. The interior is beautiful with every little detail customized and thought out. We sat at the chefs table which was an amazing 20+ foot single cut from a tree. The atmosphere is fun with great music like Prince and Tom Petty. The open kitchen is entertainment on its own witnessing their precise execution of every meal. The service was spot on in every way, professional but also not stuffy. The Chef even serves (and on one occasion cleared!) our table. Hard to believe how down to earth he is. And of course, the food was uniquely delicious in every way. The Chef has really found a way to bring out new combinations and flavors. All their meat is bought whole and aged in their own meat celler in the bottom level and no detail is overlooked. I also had the biggest piece of Uni, and of course most delicious, that I've ever seen! Plus if it's your birthday there is a special, and very unique treat for you at the end! Come hungry!
I thought it would be a one time special occasion, but after going, my wife and I have insisted on making it a regular trip, its just too good!
Delicious food and wonderful service. Love the refined complexity of the dishes. The uni snack and cornbread were delicious. . . .all the dishes were great. . .
Delightful and fun meal highlighted by some superb meat, fowl and fish preparations. Trout wrapped in smoking cedar was terrific. Hen leg was beautifully prepared and presented and was excellent. Duck was superb. Lamb was phenomenal, the chef knows how to make lamb better than nearly anyone. A barbecued carrot dish was also delicious. As for the pie - I do miss the days of the intricate French pastries that restaurants used to serve. This was a very fun and interesting place with some great food.
Probably the best restaurant in the Bay Area! This was my third visit and it just gets better each time. I can’t wait to return and try the new dishes. Sit at the counter!
Wonderful food. Fairly priced for quality and creativity. Really, really good work. A couple of world class dishes.
Too bad that front of house seems run by Private Equity firm. Major $ error on wine, in spite of twice asking during meal if a mistake had been made with wrong bottle. $90 mistake in favor of Birdsong. No attempt to explain or correct. We paid it but shows customers seem second to profits. Too bad.
The food and presentation were divine. I will say, having the 845 time slot was disappointing. It felt rushed, with us getting asked several times it felt a minute to choose our drink order and 30 minutes to an hour in the whole staff cleaning ( wiping down, bringing out containers, winding down) which didn't really warrant the "chef's kitchen " ambiance. I also got charged for an extra glass of wine.
Could taste the time and skill used. Great experience
Amazing food, great flavors textures and smells. A+!
It’s great. Really really great. Super attentive service. Great food. Nicely matched wines.
Amazing service, ambiance. Food started okay but ended weak - you can taste and feel the butter and fat they rely on for flavor. Oftentimes, the heaviness of the creams and sauces they use overwhelm the natural flavor of the meats or flavors they are trying to highlight. This was evident in the gourds (too salty), the cream of the tarter sauce (too heavy. The best dish were the lightest dishes (I.e. the black cod because my friend doesn’t eat lamb). The cornbread was fantastic, but with so much butter it probably should have come later. The meal ended with gourds, Apple pie, ice cream, cookies... all of which could be reduced by at least 50% as by that point im sure at least a pound of butter has already been consumed per person. Overall, I wish they used less fat and creams for flavoring and relied more on the natural flavor/broths of the ingredients because the ingredients were undoubtedly very fresh and the meal was not very enjoyable towards the end.
The food was great. They definitely deserve all the praise and the star they received this year. The use of aromatics into the cuisine was very innovative and added to both the ambiance and the food tasting. I think there was a large company part downstairs so the whole staff was pretty busy overall, but I don't feel the service suffered much from it. Highly recommend trying this place out for any foodies out there.
Hands down one of the very best meals of my life. This is the revelatory experience I'm always hoping but rarely achieving to find when trying a new fine dining restaurant. All sixteen dishes were gems and tasted even better than we could have expected. They are polished and refined, but even more delicious than they are beautiful. Strong bold flavors, a commitment to rich and fatty flavors without being overly heavy and providing many really distinctive dishes and tastes. The restaurant was warm and inviting, very well lit (which is great for seeing and taking photos of the dishes) and I really adored our waiter who was great to talk to and provided tons of valuable context. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant and look forward to returning.
This place is easily one of the best restaurants in the country. The food and service are top notch. Go and then go back to see how the dishes are evolving.
Great up and coming place. They just earned their first Michelin Star. The service was friendly and generally good (though a little inexperienced at times.). The food was innovative and all but one of the dishes was really flavorful. They only offer a tasting menu now (at least on the weekend when we visited). We spent about $450 for two (including beverage pairing) which isn’t crazy for a place clearly shooting for more than 1 Michelin Star, but still not cheap.
Food, ambience, service was outstanding! It was a perfectly orchestrated dining experience. I truly enjoyed every bite.
We had a delightful evening at Birdsong. We were able to book the chef's table which is off to the side for up to four people. Although not particularly conducive to conversation among the group, the view of the food preparation and interaction with the chef and staff was stellar. A beautiful evening of food theater and art. Highly recommend.
This was the best meal my husband and I have ever enjoyed. From the service to the presentation, we loved every moment. The chefs creativity was beyond our imaginations and the food was healthy, well prepared, fresh and delicious. We want to go back already:)
Reunion with a college boy toy dinner. We’re both *sses and contentedly spent the evening out-bragging one another, arguing over who aged more gracefully over the last 23 years. I, the obvious winner with the Asian ancestry, ordered hot water in lieu of coffee after what seemed the 20th heavenly taste of the night per the Chefs tasting menu...each of which were our hands on favorite -until the next bite! Upon the uncultured disgust out of my date (a pompous OC lawyer) our server, the divine Dee, explained how more and more folks, especially ‘elderly Asian women’ order the hot water. Despite her single handedly (notably innocently) giving him the night’s victory (and from his reaction might as well been the damn Stanley Cup), each and every Birdsong bite was a perfect mixture of taste, texture, elegance and punch! I’d definitely go again. The food was on point, the wine pairings thoughtful and surprising, and the perfection created the environment for everything else to emerge perfect as well! Must try!
Upon entering Birdsong, I immediately felt like I was in an uncles cabin in the northwestern US. Vaulted ceilings, wood grain everywhere with some steel/brushed aluminum or copper accents. The smells were earthy (in a good way) and the tastes were amazing. Tasteful surprises around every course. The ears found hints of birds singing in the restroom. The service was great, the food was great, the ambiance was great...all and all I would venture out to my uncles cabin again, and I don’t even have an Uncle! Haha
Average Food, Very expensive, poor ambience.
Absolutely incredible meal - awesome food, really thoughtful and well chosen pairing wines and fabulous service. Can't wait to return.
One of the best and most creative tasting menus I’ve ever experienced. Will be rewarded a Michelin star within the year.
Exquisite, delightful, and simply amazing
Birdsong was such a special find on a recent trip to San Francisco. What a great evening we experienced. The food for this tasting menu only restaurant was very creative and meticulously prepared. We sat at the long table that faced the kitchen and were able to watch the entire evenings meal unfold. The kitchen is not loud and hurried as one would think a kitchen would be. The kitchen runs like a well oiled machine and each chef serves their stations portions with incredible explanations of the menu. It was such a treat to be able to watch the chefs/ artists at work. The sommelier, Freddy, was outstanding! Very knowledgeable and charming...just another element of our perfect evening. Not to mention the fabulous wines that were paired with the food. You have to love a restaurant that has 3 amazing bread courses to complement the food. Attention to detail in all aspects! The dishes were even designed by the chef to present each incredible morsel that was prepared for us. Chef Chris Bleidorn is aligned to see stars in the very near future! Thank you for an incredible evening we will not soon forget.
We chose Birdsong to celebrate our 1st anniversary based on the great reviews it was getting, and it did not disappoint! Absolutely loved the creative take on Northwest cuisine. The dishes were all so unique and served beautifully - it was like eating a delicious piece of art. The service was of course fantastic, and the wine pairing was perfect. I cannot recommend this place enough as the new hot SF restaurant!
So, so gooood! Better and more memorable than Saison
My partner and I had a special date night dinner at Birdsong. We are originally from the Pacific Northwest so were looking forward to some PNW cuisine in San Francisco. The food was outstanding. Carefully and thoughtfully put-together bites that were beautiful to look at and just delightful to eat. This was some of the best food I've eaten in the Bay Area.
Wow! Just wow. Go if you can. The staff and chef are so talented and humble. The experience is like eating great art.
The food was a little too salty. Wasn’t amazed by the main dishes but overall yummy
Very special place! Insanely delicious food, great ambiance, beautiful interiors! Thank you, Birdsong!
Service - ambiance- cuisine all stellar!
Birdsong is truly a special place. Having dined at most of the Michelin starred restaurants all over the world, it’s hard for a place to stand out and leave an imprint on my heart but I must say my experience from start to finish was uniquely wonderful. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you feel its warmth-it’s very inviting. The open kitchen allows most diners to see the intricacies of each dish being prepared. The experience is intimate and not pretentious, you feel as though you are dining at someone’s home. I know Birdsong is new on the map but I don’t doubt a Michelin future for this special place! The staff first and foremost is bar none. Our server Matt was so wonderful in the way he cared for us throughout our meal. The sommelier was bright, energetic and knowledgeable, another asset to Birdsong. Having the different chefs (sous, pastry, cuisine) serve us our different courses and describe each course and answer questions without egos was also refreshing, there was never a dull moment. Each dish was not only well thought out, but innovative, balanced and tastefully done. I’m glad I got to have the chef’s table experience here, because this place is going to be booming and I’m sure it will be nearly impossible to get reservations in the future. Well done, Birdsong!
Warm and inviting atmosphere. Great view of the Chef's food preparation. The menu is well thought out and the food was amazing.
