The Manager at the Bid Dog came to our table told us all the cool stuff at the Oread. Kindest, coolest man ever! Great customer service!!!
First time with a group of 15 friends. Service was very good and personable. The food was very good also. Would definitely go again.
Misplaced my reservation, found a seat in an empty hall, and people were setting other tables around during the meal. The 3-course Valentine’s day menu advertised on the web was not offered. The owner and server tried their best but all the efforts were futile.
Our server was amazing! We had separate checks and people leaving at different times and ordering at different times. Handled it like a champ! Great food and service, could not be happier!
Lunch was just right, wide-choice menu, very nice presentation of food, good and accommodating waitperson, pleasant and welcoming place.
Excellent food and even better service. Valet is always a bonus in the winter and not many places in Lawrence offer that. Only wish they had options for kids. There is no kids menu and you can't order kid portions. My daughter only wanted plain spaghetti with no sauce and we had to order the $14 spaghetti and meatballs for her.
Food was good but $2.00 for a coffee refill come on man
We ate 3 meals there during our stay at The Oread. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the staff and the food. My grandson has had their Jayhawker MAC & Cheese twice and we both think it’s the best ever!! As a dog lover he had to have the Sundae in Dog Bowl. Such a cute idea!!
Nice people, great service, but the food was mediocre at best
Liz our server was the best EVER. Food was fantastic. One small hiccup on the evening was a slow bar service. However, that could be for the better as we were celebrating a 21st B-day. The manager was VERY friendly and courteous. Overall 5 star evening !
The food was tasty. The service was amazing, especially the bar service. Amazing cucumber martini was a big hit!
Overbooked reservations - kitchen couldn't keep up with orders awful experience.
We utilized the Sunday buffet and bar service for our beverages. Everything worked out great, I would sit here again for Sunday brunch.
Five of us had dinner at the Bird Dog Bar on a Friday evening. We each ordered a different burger or chicken sandwich. Not only were all the burgers/chicken exceptional but the pretzel appetizers were to die for. The wine list offered a nice selection too. I'm looking forward to returning for many more meals.
Went for KU NCAA tournament game watch party. Our waiter did an excellent job of timing our dishes and knew we were there for the game and did not rush us.
We were there during a KU game. It's a great place to watch the game. Very lively, but not too noisy or boisterous. Service is always very, very good. They seem to go out of their way. The burger was fantastic. Salads are nice as well.
We were celebrating a birthday with a fairly large party (8) and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. Food was great, even though the menu quite typical.
Enjoyed all aspects except noise level, hard to have a conversation.
We went to Five 21 for their special New Year's Eve menu to celebrate our anniversary. The food was delicious and creative, our server was the manager and he was impeccable, and we were seated right in front of the hearth so the ambiance was amazing! Would definitely celebrate a special occasion at Five 21 anytime!
It was Christmas Eve and a very nice dinner for us. We tend to think maybe chef needs to advise the spices used. A little rosemary goes a long way. Or maybe advise customers on menu. Other than that wine, food and dessert was great. We will go back to Five-21.
The server tried real hard, but it was evident she didn't have the training . Our meat was cooked as we asked, but the vegetables were over done. They should get some real tables. We had two small tables pushed together that made it feel like we were eating in a dinner with a tablecloth. We will not go back.
We loved the place and the food. We both had one complaint - the food was tepid. I would love to attend another special occasion at the Bird Dog if they fix this small problem.
Enjoyed the evening.
I have been to the restaurant on two occasions. One time when my Daughter was in town last Summer we had Dinner at the Bird Dog. It was very quiet and the food was excellent. I was there last week for a friend's 50th Birthday. There was Dinner and drinks, again both were excellent. We will definitely go again.
The reservations we thought we made for the Bird Dog actually ended up being for the fine dining restaurant in the hotel as the Bird Dog was closed for Christmas Eve. We had amazing steaks, and my margarita was one of the best I've had in a long time. The staff was very friendly and took excellent care of us. Kyle and his team created a very special Christmas Eve dinner for us and our family loved it!
My family and I celebrated Thanksgiving with a late lunch at the Bird Dog Thanksgiving Buffet. The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. I would highly recommend dining here to anyone. I eat at the Bird Dog on a regular basis, and I find the drinks and the service are always great. As a KU Grad, I appreciate the fact that it is located adjacent to campus, where I enjoy after dinner walks.
The valet service alone makes the Oread (Bird Dog isn't the only bar/restaurant in the building) the PREMIER dining experience in Lawrence. Going out to eat in Lawrence, primarily during the school year, means that you'll be fighting for a parking spot, and likely walking a few blocks on minimum. That limits most people on what they wear on colder nights. The valet service is appreciated.
The server was fantastic, the bartender can make anything, and the menu is outstanding. You'd hardly know it's a "bar and grill" by the high end choices on the menu, but it's the best of both worlds with the casual feel. The check was reasonable. Great way to spend a Saturday night! Will be back for sure.
My husband and I both received our orders wrong. Overall the food was disappointing.
I ate at Five21 once before and had a good meal. I was excited to go a second time, but it was mediocre at best. The food was either cold, overcooked, or dried out. The tomatoes were far from in season in the beefeater tomato salad, The waiter didn't seem to know the menu and seemed very confused. He also carried out water glasses my holding the rim and bought my date a straw by holding the exposed straw in his bare hand and then putting it in her glass. When it came time for desset, we decided to go elsewhere.
Our meal at Five21 on Christmas day was a great ending to a fantastic holiday time. My wife, son, and I decided we were not interested in leftovers so we made the reservation for our special evening meal. The service was prompt and friendly as we were seated and a beautiful young lady came to our table to get our coats to check in the lobby. Our server got our drink orders and starters quickly and advised us on his favorite entrees on the menu. My Scottish salmon was outstanding and my wife absolutely loved her KC strip steak cooked to perfection.
We have eaten several meals in Five21 and the Birddog Bar. This meal ranked right up there as one of the best. Thank you Oread Hotel!
We had a great time at Five21. The best wedge salad I've ever had!
I got the filet mignon with rosemary whipped potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were so creamy.
Creme brulee was the perfect consitency! Great wine and beer selection and wonderful service.
Beautiful dining area and very nice ambience.
Let me start by saying that we have gone to The Oread 8 - 10 times a year since it opened and we have always raved about it - great atmosphere and it used to have great food and service too. Unfortunately something has changed for the worst over the last 6 months. We last went prior to the KU basketball game and were surprised to find that the menu had been limited to just a handful of options and the prices seemed to have gone up. ($197 for 4 people, one beer each.) I don't mind paying high prices when the food and service are good; however, the service was terrible and the food even worse. We wondered why there were only 3 tables seated in Five21 -- and now we know. Very expensive, very poor service and disappointing food. My steak was over cooked and dry. My wife could not finish her salmon. The waiter never checked on us after our food was delivered and we had to flag him down to get our check. And this is when there were only 3 tables full in the restaurant. He seemed to be more interested in what was going on in the bar. This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we have had. It is really too bad, as the hotel, bar and restaurant have a terrific atmosphere. We won't be going back.
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, especially because I had alerted them to the special occasion. My wife really enjoyed her meal and my steak was ok. The free dessert was generous and we couldn't even eat half of it. My only issue was it seemed as if our actual waiter was distracted or busy doing something else. After he would check on us to see if we needed anything, he'd say he'd be right back with it. It never worked that way and it felt like we waited for an awfully long time on him to refill water, bring bread, etc. As much as we enjoyed everything, our dining there took 1 hour and 50 minutes before we could finally leave. If he had been more attentive our experience would have been better.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere is wonderful. Wait staff was great.
The menu is one page because they do those items very well.
Large wine list.
Be sure to take the elevator to the top of the hotel after diner to take in the amazing views of lawrence, ks
The atmosphere was like eating in a cold castle, fortunately we were seated by a window which helped. Food was good especially our appetizers, recommended by our waitress Marissa who was outstanding, friendly and knowledgeable. We had her as our waitress at the Eldridge Hotel earlier that week and were delighted to see her again at the Oread 21.
The food and the waitstaff were both very good. Very knowledgable about the menu and wine list. The food was excellent especially the sea scallops appetizer. My wife had the pork chops which were excellent and I had the 12oz KC Strip which was very good. We also had breakfast there both days we were staying at The Oread and the breakfast was good as well.
We celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary. The food, service and atmosphere met our expectations.
We enjoyed a brunch for Mother's day. The brunch went until 3:00 and our reservation was not until 2:30, while many of the dishes were available the meat station closed down before we were able to get any and several of the stations were poorly stocked.
My wife and I are old enough to have spent many holiday brunches at various places around the area, including 3 prior times at your restaurant. While the Oread location is convenient for my family members, we have always lamented that the quality of the food isn't better. It's OK, but with the beutiful location and good service we do enjoy, we do not feel the food has ever been one of the positives, particularly at the prices charged.
We were seated in the front redtsurant, on a nousy Thurs evening. I thiught we'd have to leave because some of our group have hearing problems. Once the staff became aware of the isdue the quietly moved us to a much nicer & quieter location.
My husband and I "double dated" with my parents. We were celebrating our 27th anniversary and my folks their 57th. My dad chose the Oread and we had a terrific time being together. The food was delicious and the atmosphere just right for such a night out. Thank you!
