Always a delicious meal and great service!!
Great as always, except they were out of my favorite entree. Very disappointing.
It's confusing when you get a reservation for a restaurant and you still have to wait 45 minutes after the reservation to get sat. Food was ok either undercooked or overcooked, wait staff seemed not engaged or not wanting to be working. We've had great meals at this place when they were smaller. They seem to have lost the quality control, intimacy and great one on one customer service we fell in love with.
The Hostesses and Valet Parking Staff were fabulous, and so nice! The rest was "OK" at best. I have liked Birch, until tonight. Made a reservation for a 50th Birthday Dinner asking for a good table and maybe and birthday celebrating the restaurant does to go along with it. We got a great table, but the goodness ended there. Our waiter was inattentive and seemed crabby, our food was all very salty for some reason (not what I have experienced here previously)... When it came time for a birthday treat, I had to ask the waiter a about it in front of the birthday girl. He seemed almost like this was a burden or something. Took forever for the treat to come out - and when it did, it was very lack-luster. I know Birch is not ChuckECheese, but SOME interest would have been nice. Also, with the food being off, the evening was not as good as I was hoping. Maybe not the best place for a birthday...?
Food was great like usual, great wine and drink options! We love coming back!
A really nice brunch. It was very busy, so service was a little slow, but it was a very enjoyable experience and the food was fantastic!
All around greatness!! Brewery in the basement always a great time!! Live music every week!! Come for dogsled racing to participate or just watch! Outdoor ice bar! So fun!!
Food was great we had the chicken and prime rib special. Getting our main meal took almost an hour.
We have enjoyed burches on the lake before this time. It was new year eve. Our table was very nice and our server was lovely.
Our meal was thrown at us, appetizers, salads and than our main course. The apps were good and the dinner was not. My steak was cold and was returned to the kitchen and was cold again along with being tough and not cooked to my liking. This is thoughts of our group. Maybe just a tough night.
We love the old school supper club feel of this place. The view of the lake, the music in the lounge and the warm feel are the things that make Birch's special. The food I would describe as adequate but not notable. I normally eat low fat, low salt vegetarian with some fish/seafood. There are really no meals offered without grease, butter, a fried component or lots of salt. I had scallops which were tasty but way too rich. It came with spaghetti squash which I wish had been delivered without all the grease, with maybe some lemon. My husband ordered walleye which was overly breaded and greasy.
The prices (for New Year's Eve) were elevated to begin with on a menu that is not normally much of a value. We didn't go there expecting great value and we really didn't mind paying the price. But, what bothered us was the 50 cent surcharge for barbecue sauce that one of our companions ordered. Why would this restaurant choose to alienate a group of diners over 50 cents? Shame shame...
We made reservations for New Year’s Eve, and waited an additional 20 minutes to sit down. I felt they were a bit overbooked. After getting past that the service was great. I had the walleye, which I recommend. My fiancé ordered the Lobster Risotto, and neither of us were a fan. We then replaced it with a filet mignon, which came out in a very timely manner and was cooked perfectly. They went above and beyond by buying us dessert as well. Overall good experience.
We have eaten at Birch's On the Lake many times and have gotten good service and great food. This last time was OK and only OK. My opinion is that the "B" team was in. It was the day after Christmas. My chicken, that I have had several times, was over-fried, too dark and greasy. The relish tray that came to the table looked like the deviled egg had been sitting out too long. Our waitperson was kind of snarky and acted like she really did not want to be there. We have, in general, had better food and service previously.
Now we were there on Xmas eve so our choices were marginal. I would absolutely not recommend this place. Beer cheese soup too spicy to eat. Anything fried overly greasy. Food really poor...as a home cook I could have run circles around this place
Celebrating my birthday! Great food! Great music! Wonderful experience!
First time here. Good food, great service. Will come back in the summer!
Great place to eat and closeby Minneapolis
I took my boyfriend here as an early Christmas present and requested to be sat at a table that was both “private” and “near the live music” so we could hear it playing. We were not disappointed and the food was spectacular. Per my boyfriend’s opinion: “This is the best food I’ve had in a really long time.” The beer was also fantastic (the Blood Orange beer is now my new favorite).
We will be returning soon!
The Walleye was not as good as frozen fish sticks!
Wonderful food and excellent service! We especially enjoyed getting to see Suzanne the magician!
Our reservation was at 7:45 didn’t get seated until 8:30. They offered a round of free drinks. Get seated and we were looking forward to Prime rib and were told they didn’t have anymore. Waiter we felt knew our situation and sort of ignored us from the get do as he had a 10 person table which was more likely to leave a much bigger tip..Never offered refills on water until very end we were already done!!
They did make up for it buy comping some items but doesn’t really help with the awful experience we had.
No hurry to be back😳
The gentleman at the host stand was abrupt & rude upon arrival as though I was putting him out, despite me having a reservation. We were sat 40 minutes late which was actually fine by us as we had a drink in the meantime. Our group was sat at a high top table with stools rather than chairs which wasn’t ideal but fine. Just odd given I had made reservations over a month out. The worst part was that the band was so loud that we couldn’t hear each other talk so conversation was challenging. Our server who was very busy came to us while eating our dinner & told us the kitchen was closing so we should order desert now. It wasn’t our fault that they sat us late & service was slow.
The night was fine but not as fun as expected due to the circumstances of the restaurant, unfortunately. We’ve had better experiences at this place.
I have never written a restaurant review before but you deserve it. My wife and I had our son in law in town from Florida. We decided a supper club would be a fun experience for him. Birch's was great. It was appropriately crowded and had a good vibe. The staff was very helpful and got us in earlier than our reservation (although the pub downstairs is fun). They sat us by the window and we could see out over the frozen lake with the fireplace going in the background. It was a perfect holiday atmosphere.
We had prime rib, fried chicken and crab legs. All were excellent but the fried chicken was exceptional. It was juicy inside but crispy outside. It was among the best chicken dishes I have ever had. We just had a great night. I highly recommend Birch's.
The live music was very good. The menu is limited; the walleye was average, braised beef was very good. The ribs are good.
I wanted to try Birch’s for an annual dinner between friends. It was not what foodies are looking for. The food is bland, the cocktails aren’t creative and it was dark (winter visit) so we didn’t even get to enjoy the view. I’m sure it’s a great summer hangout, but I don’t need to return.
We went to Birch’s for my birthday. We’d had good meals there before, but tonight was just ok, nothing special. Given the prices, everything should be very good or even excellent. I got the salmon with butternut squash “risotto” and it was on the bland side. The pasta bolognese was good but a little heavy on the cream. The bibb salad was also rather bland. Our server was fine but had a definite lack of enthusiasm. On the positive side, the view was lovely and the ambiance is great.
Great meal and service! The only negative was that they had a band (in the main dining area) and so it got very loud.
When you go to a place and pay $18 for an appetizer and $36 for a steak, I don't really want to have kids at every table in the place. Not the best place for a couple or people that don't want to be consumed with children. Had a birthday party of kids that was performing a magic show. Not my ideal situation for a "nice" night out. Great service, but that is about it.
First time to Birch’s. It is a very nice setting, great service the night we visited. The appetizer was delicious, the dinner was good. The portion a little small for the bigger price tag. Nice place. Looking forward to checking it out in the summer.
Eat here often. Never disappoints and the menu changes are great. Great food, service and atmosphere!!
As usual, meal was very good. Service was really uneven (we ate later so the place was not totally jammed. ) No one read our Open Table requests, which was disappointing as we were there to celebrate two special occasions. We will chalk it up to the restaurant having an off night, but will probably wait to come back until the end of January after the holiday season.
We loved the two piece ensemble for playing and the food and service were excellent. We look forward to returning.
Just a pre 60th birthday get together....great place to dine and enjoy good company....the gift certs also helped for future trips!
We had the Thanksgiving buffet. The ambiance is very warm and rustic. The food was replenished frequently and alway fresh.
Wonderful Thanksgiving dinner! The food was delicious and the service was amazing. We can’t wait to return!
We were celebrating a birthday and had a fabulous time. The setting was perfect, the food was marvelous and our waiter was attentive, friendly and funny. It was a great way to celebrate! We will definitely be visiting Birch's on the Lake again, though I doubt we'll be waiting for a special occasion to return!
Great food, outstanding service, a wonderful meal.
We went to Birches for Sunday brunch. Fantastic food and Bloody Mary bar, very friendly staff and excellent service, awesome lake view! We loved it!
Food, ambiance and service was top notch!!
