Excellent all the way around!
The meal was great! The wine was also
Excellent. Noise level can be loud at peak times.
Our waiter got busy mid dinner and was less attentive as the night went on, somewhat disappointed.
Will definitely return, but probably choose the bar service. Mike was great.
Spent two great evenings, sitting at the bar and enjoying great meals. Kim and Mike were both fantastic and mixed up some very tasty cocktails and made great wine pairing suggestions. Thoroughly enjoyed the flavours, freshness and quality of all the ingredients. Highlights were: carrot cavatelli, Bibb salad and whitefish. Preparation, presentation and taste were fantastic. Will definitely be back, the next time I’m in town. WELL worth the LYFT from Menomonee....! FANTASTIC
Food was not prepared as requested and it did not live up to the hype. Service was not attentive and the place lacked a feel of friendliness. The presentation was nice, but that's about it.
Food was fabulous. And what really made the evening special were the little touches. Let them know if you're celebrating something special, they will make you feel special. My new favorite restaurant in town.
Our server was great!!!! I feel awful I can't remember her name but started with K. So knowledgeable. The craft cocktails were super yummy. Me and my mom split the whole chicken which was also delicious but and a lot of food. Will be back again!
Been to Birch + Butcher a few times, and have yet to be disappointed. The ingredients used are all very high quality and they shine through every bite. On the most recent trip, I finally got around to trying the roast chicken cooked in the hearth and my only regret is that I hadn't tried it sooner.
We weren't aware that this was a small plates venue, which always makes it pricier. Tasty dishes. Unusual combinations. Needed bread for our meatball appetizer, but weren't willing to pay for something that is complementary at most Milwaukee restaurants.
Amazing food and service! Will definitely go back!
food was great. restaurant is very loud. our server could have been more attentive.
First time here. The meat was fantastic, and our server was also very friendly. There were so many great options on the menu. I'll definitely have to return to try more.
Food was really good, roasted parsnips and the roasted beets were delicious, meatballs amazing, I do not love the family style/shareable plates concept that seems to be so many places these days.
We love the Bibb salad and normally split a bowl...it is so big, but we each got one. It is chock full with herbs and I noticed pickled carrots which were delish. My wife had the trout, which was great, except it is a big chuck of lake trout...not the trout you would fly fish for. She loved it. I got the porterhouse pork. It was moist and thick and one of the best pieces of pork I have had the pleasure to eat. Desert. My god who has room! But I have rambled over in the AM for one or two of their hand pies. They are a super experienc3.
The steak and eggs was divine along with the pulled pork shoulder. Our server and overall experience was superb. A restaurant like this was needed. I can't wait to go back!
Service was great! Food was delicious. Definitely will be coming back.
Smelled great. Hostess pleasant and accommodating. Previous recommendations of open hearth grilled chicken and parsnip were spot on - great choices. Innovative cocktails. Bread was delightful, fresh and warm.
Our other entree of brisket was alternately tender and tough. Not Texas brisket for sure. Desserts were “meh”. Didn’t expect the lime and coconut dessert to be cold (frozen). Parking a challenge exacerbated by mounds of snow.
Still we’ll be back.
Great chicken great service
This was my first time and it was so delicious! The flavors of the food were wonderful. The breads are all homemade nd so is the pasta.
Kinda loud - some accoustical management would be smart. And you run out of those handpies way too early :)
Bartenders were OUTSTANDING. However server for dinner and food for dinner were marginal at best. Expected so much more
Fantastic service and the food was spectacular. We tried the meatballs with corn grits small plate as well the sunflower seed risotto, the skirt steak and brisket, would definitely order each one again.
From the moment we stepped into the restaurant and smelled the aroma of the open hearth, we knew we were in for a treat. Food, drinks (who knew artichokes would make a tasty cocktail) and service (thanks Stephen) were all excellent. We will be back.
Very enjoyable experience. Do not miss out on the homemade bread and butter! Fried kale Caesar was good but not a standout. Carrot cavatelli was somehow missing carrot flavor but the sauce was mmmmmm so good. Flank steak was very very good and cooked beautifully. Lime and coconut dessert underwhelmed...texture seemed off as though it had been kept too cold.
PS: Steak knives need to be sharpened.
Overall very pleased and would be happy to return.
Love the food. Chef Is very creative and the wood-fired prep is amazing.
Good experience, but the food took a while to come out.
Very good but have a reservation. We went for brunch. Music was a little loud. But when a table complained, they turned it down. Only gave 4 stars for service because they never refilled our water glasses and we needed it. Good food, easy to find.
All six of us thought the food was amazing! Great service to. We look forward to coming back.
The service was certainly a highlight, as we received good recommendations and felt as though we were given exceptional, candid, professional attention. The restaurant certainly was a good volume throughout, arriving when they opened at 5 pm at a low volume, steadily rising through the dinner rush but not approaching uncomfortable noise levels despite a mostly full room with a lot of hard surfaces. The dining room itself was modern, elegant, and relaxed. The food was all unique and up-scaled without being stuffy. The beef tartare in particular seemed emblematic of the quality-oriented yet relaxed, New Nordic attitude toward the food here as an haute, up-scale dish that was served in a beautiful plating surrounded by fantastic parsnip chips, subtly meant to be eaten as though the tartare was merely a chip dip, though of course the parsnips and the beef complemented each other perfectly. This is certainly a place where the core competency is in its butchering as evidenced by the flavorful skirt steak we had, but the lake trout we had was also perfectly done as well.
Overpriced. Sat at the counter hoping for an engaging experience. Basically ignored by kitchen staff, they were more interested in screwing around with each other. Poor dress code on kitchen staff....no hairnets. Food quality was mediocre. Our waitress was the only good part of the experience. They missed the boat on many fronts....food not delivered together. Very underwhelming....will not go back. Sadly disappointed.
What a treat. This place was recommended to us by my brother as we were in town from Chicago. The strip steak is "drop the mic" amazing. One of those dishes where you take a taste, your eyes widen, look at whomever you're dining with & say, "Oh my god you've GOT to try this!" The portions are not small. We had the Kale Salad, Carrot Cavatelli & Parsnips as veggies, then the Skirt Steak & Pork Porterhouse for entres. We took a TON of food home. The service perfect for the experience. Timely, casual, gave great recommendations and compared to Chicago this is a deal. We did get seats at the counter which if you can swing, please try to sit there. The kitchen staff, including Miles the Chef/Owner, are both fun to watch and even more fun to chat with (when they have time to chat). Book a table or the counter here now!
Pre theater dining with family
Voted best new restaurant in Milwaukee?!? That’s just nuts.
This place is a true gem! Great service, fantastic food, and great wine selections. If you are looking for a bistro atmosphere, this is an excellent choice!
Very good service and great atmosphere. The food was very, very good. We will definitely be coming back.
Great food and a great atmosphere!! The chicken is to die for, and we’re always intrigued by their different interpretations of beef tartare. We’re quick to recommend this place!
Waited 1/2 hour for table with reservations. Waitress did not put in our food order to kitchen. Manager came over with gift certificate and apologized for both waiting for table and food. He told us that my husband and I “had a rough night” at his restaurant. When food finally did come, I was given salmon even though I ordered the trout. I was starving because we waited so long, so started eating the salmon instead of sending it back and asking for what I ordered. The salmon was raw in the middle. Never going back.
Fantastic meal here on a busy Saturday night. Let's start with the bread. 3 different types. All amazing. Kale is not normally my thing, but the kale salad was delicious. Turkey meatballs were good, but nothing that blew my socks off. This was already a lot of food but my wife and I still ordered the chicken and skirt steak. The chicken was honestly one of the best I've ever had. That crispy skin was incredible. The skirt steak was melt in your mouth. Restaurant is pretty loud and you are pretty close to other diners but I was very impressed with the food. We will be back.
We had a great dinner at Birch and Butcher and I highly recommend it as a great new place in downtown Milwaukee. We started with the charcuterie plate which I highly recommend. We then ordered the sunflower mushroom rosotto, pork ragu, whitefish and roasted chicken. Our favorite was the pork ragu but the others were also very good.
Outstanding food and service, can’t wait to return.
