BIN 112 on trade street Ratings and Reviews
As usual, BIN112 exceeded our expectations! Our family dined there last year to celebrate family birthdays, and we chose the same restaurant this year. The food was excellent and was beautifully presented. The service was wonderful too! Overall, it was a great evening and a great restaurant!
Food was outstanding! Wine list could include some nicer wines in addition to the value wines. Our dinners took WAAAY too long to arrive... reservations at 6:30. Had appetizers. Had to ask when dinners would arrive (about 8:00!). Was told "this is not McDonald's". Not the best answer to a reasonable question! When food DID arrive, it was good and hot and quite delicious. Desserts were to die for!
We had heard about Bin 112 for several years, but living in Brevard, we never took the time to visit. However when friends came to the Greer area we took the time (1 1/2 hr drive) to meet up at Bin...and it was well worth the trip. The food, service (Michael) and overall ambiance lived up to and surpassed our expectations. The creative food presentations were very special and portions were fulfilling. Overall I'd give it an A+. While there we learned about the "Strip Club" steakhouse (a block away) owned by the same family and now we're anxious to try that, too!
This was our first time at Bin112. I had heard good things, so my expectations were high. Bin112 did not disappoint! We were there for my birthday. I had the kiss my grits shrimp dish and my husband had the filet medallions with pimento cheese. Both dishes were extremely good! My only complaint about mine was there was too much black pepper (and I love black pepper!).
While the food was very good, the service was even better. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and was attentive. They even gave us a free dessert for my birthday.
I would definitely recommend this place!
The waiter came out and placed a HOT pot in front of me not telling me it was hot. I burned my fingers on the handle.(not a serious burn but not necessary) He offered to bring out bread and never did. I had to ask 2 times to the waitress before receiving the bread. The pot was huge and felt like I was eating somewhere else than a fine restaurant.
Patronize this restaurant regularly. Food never disappoints. Best calamari in the area, great mussels in outstanding selection of sauces. Food is spicy, but good. Wine list could be expanded, but they do have some very nice pairing selections. We try to get there early when we can, because it's less crowded. Our only complaint is that if you are at a table for two, and it's semi-busy, you are on top of each other -- tables are way too small. Waitstaff (Michael) was excellent -- professional, well-versed in food/menu and attentive.
This is the second time I've been to this restaurant and would return. My date and I each had a seafood appetizer and the restaurant's exclusive honey bourbon-all of which were excellent. It was a late dinner and we had another stop so we planned this light fare which was quite filling. It was a Tuesday night; the place was crowded and noisy. Reservations recommended.
bottom line: food was really good. server was excellent, and it was an enjoyable evening. My only debit was the noise level. it's a long narrow room with tile floors and brick walls on both sides. hard to carry on a conversation... but the food was great...
The evening started out well as we were greeted warmly by the ladies at the hostess stand and specifically Lori. Then it went downhill from there. We sat at the bar as we typically do. We quickly realized that the bartender was very green and new at his job which he did admit later in the evening. The problem was it resulted in several missteps that adversely affected the overall experience that evening. Because he was unsure how to make drinks they took an exceedingly long time to get and also we could tell from our long experience making drinks at home and ordering that he did not know very well what he was doing. Further when we ordered our food he did not have it spaced out with the kitchen so that courses came at the same time along with bread?? When we ordered our entrées he took mine down which included a steak as part of it but never asked me how I wanted my steak cooked. I had to prompt him for that specification which I shouldn't have to do. The calamari was not tender as usual and rubbery. Potato cake and steak did not seem well seasoned even seemed like they needed some salt and pepper. As we finished with dishes glasses etc. they just piled up around us to the point where we had to move them out of our way ourselves because nobody was doing it for us. Then at the tail end there was a gentleman and his partner who came to sit at the bar and the gentleman proceeded to man spread next to me sideways so that his back was right into my leg. Initially I thought there wasn't enough room on the other side but when I finally left I realized that he wanted a foot and a half of space or more between himself and his partner resulting in me being squashed up against his back. The bar area simply isn't large enough for him to do that and someone should've said something to him. We paid nearly $100 for an evening that was not satisfactory. It was our wedding anniversary but nobody ever asked us if we were celebrating anything special.
Food for all four of us was superb: crab cakes, steak and bacon-wrapped shrimp. The service/server (Rachel) was outstanding. She was knowledgeable and easy to understand when she described the different choices . We sat right next to the entrance, so we could see and hear everyone coming and going, so next time I'll probably request someplace a little further from the entrance. It would be nice to have a graphic layout online when we ask for reservations, and then we could specify our choices for location.
This is our second trip to Bin 112, a local gem with an impressive selection of wine and craft mixed drinks.
We started our meal with the special appetizer of pimento cheese, which was among the best (if not the best) I've ever had. Topped with bacon, the cheese was served slightly warm and was well-seasoned. There was also a slice of fried green tomato on the side. We ate the whole dish.
Drinks: I had the Aviator, which is my go-to here, and recommended if you're a gin drinker. Be warned, it is as potent as it is pretty to look at. My husband had a cucumber cooler, which he's had here before, and describes as "refreshing."
Meals: I ordered the Smoky Mountain Beef Tenderloin, which is served with a smoky bacon bourbon sauce that is beyond delicious. I all but licked my plate clean. The sweet potato side is super-sweet and tasty. One of the things I like about Bin 112 is that the meals are offered in small plate and regular plate sizes (for several dishes, not all).
My husband ordered the Bin Stack (crab cake, fried green tomato, and tenderloin) and while his was okay, I'm glad I stuck with the Smoky Mountain. I didn't like his sauce as much and the only complaint about this visit is that his "medium" steak arrived at the table well done. We're not ones to send food back so I swapped mine for his because I don't mind well done as much as he does. This isn't reason to ding Bin 112 on stars or overall excellence because this happens and we could have asked for a replacement and didn't. I'm not into wasting food.
Service and atmosphere are great here. Friendly. Competent. The bar is impressive. There are apparently tastings here depending on the day of the week (wine and alcohol) and I've added attending one to my to-do. I recommend making reservations for this and its sister restaurant, The Strip Club because both are popular and often booked solid. A great place to eat when you're in Greer. We'll definitely be back.
