The food was great. But the star of the night was the Un Your Day Cocktail. Flipping Amazing.
The service, food, and ambiance were all subpar. We decided to go here because we have been to 10 Degrees South many times and love it. They are not one in the same - not even on the same playing field. Biltong Bar is able to get away with high prices, small portions ( two tacos and three spoonfuls of rice for $24) and lame waiters because the Avalon will always be busy. They don’t have to impress anyone because the people will come regardless. We asked our waiter for suggestions and he literally didn’t have any! He knew it was my birthday and didn’t say anything. When I ordered a drink off the menu he said it was no longer available, so I asked if the bartender could make something similar. He was weird about it and acted like that was a burden. It was highly disappointing for $125. If you’re at the Avalon do yourself a favor and skip it.
First time attending the restaurant. Food had wonderful and original spices and flavor. Drinks were high quality, and the service was spot on! Might be a little pricey for what one gets, but still would recommend and look forward to going back
It’s was awesome! Amazing server. Have some wonderful suggestions to us to try. Definitely coming back!
The service was fine, but the food was disappointing considering I enjoyed my prior visit. Steak was tough & fries weren’t hot & too greasy.
Everything was delicious, timely and service was great
We live that place. It has an urban feel to it (rather than the suburban flair of so much in Avalon and surrounding) and their menu stands out. Very good selection of wines and in addition excellent quality drinks. As for the food, they have a small menu, some of it for the adventurous taste as it has South African components such as peri peri, ostrich, or bobotie. We really like to go for drinks/wine and shared appetizers or dishes and it is a great place to meet up with friends, spend and evening out and just chill. Their staff is consistent and always super friendly.
The burger and Brussels sprouts were very salty. The cocktails were overpriced. And the serving sizes were small for the appetizers and biltong sampler.
We started our meal with the Meat & Cheese Board, then I had the Sesame Grain Bowl with Seared Ahi Tuna, and my boyfriend had the burger. We both enjoyed a glass of wine and cocktail, and the evening was very nice. Was a great Friday night spot.
Our kids bought us this gift card last Christmas. I grew up in Zimbabwe and South Africa, so was really looking forward to going to the restaurant. We loved it all. I had the JoBurger and I can honestly say it was the best burger patty I have had in the last 5 years. I had it with the curried cauliflower, which was outstanding. For apps we had the Biltong sample plate and the mini meat pies. Everything was excellent. Great service, cool atmosphere. We will be back.
Food, service, location and ambience are all outstanding! The red bean hummus and biltong are among my favorite items there!
Food was awesome and our waiter was great, but the only unfortunate thing was that I noted it was my wife’s birthday and there happened to be no mention of it or celebratory dessert. It’s not expected, of course, but always appreciated. We will definitely be back though as all our food and cocktails were superb.
If you are looking for some place to enjoy a craft cocktail then this is the place. However if you want food or really good service I would recommend looking somewhere else. We had to request someone to come over and explain what was on our meat and cheese board. Our waiter checked on us once during our meal. I was incredibly disappointed.
We went to celebrate a birthday. I had been there before and sat outside in the day and had drinks and apps. For dinner it was a different experience. My friend ordered the rib eye and first time came out medium well instead of medium. Second time it came out well; really? If you go there stick with the biltong, appetizers and drinks. Don’t order the rib eye or dinner.
This was our first dining experience at Biltong Bar. The food was delicious, but the portions are small. The service was great - we had no issues. Definitely check it out, just don't go in super hungry.
Be sure to get a reservation and all the food is absolutely delicious
Biltong is my absolute favorite place to go for cocktails. Our lunch salads were perfect and our service was top notch.
We sat outside and it was really cold, too bad heaters weren’t on but we had a good time
The food was great and we loved the atmosphere! Such a cool place.
Very disappointed with food ,not a real South African taste and flavor
Celebrated my husband Birthday at Biltong. The drinks were outstanding! I am picky👸🏼
We really enjoyed the food. It is different from anything else around Alphatetta. The service was wonderful too. This is my new Favorite place!!! I’ll be back soon💋
We have been there twice and love it. First visit had great service, second visit had several hiccups with drinks taking forever and one main course coming out after everyone had eaten. They took care of it on the bill but they need to get some consistency on a full night. I had my drink 20 minutes before the other three people at the table and then my wine came way after I had eaten my main course. The food is excellent, the atmosphere great, so once they get the coordination fixed, it will be a well rounded place for a great night out.
I was amazing, and we will be back soon.
Love this place and the billeting popcorn is the absolute best!!
Food was great, we will go back.
We loved Biltong Bar! We tried almost every appetizer on the menu and a Biltong sampler, they were all unique and fantastic! (our favorites were the crepe, ostrich sliders and calamari (kids also loved the popcorn). We went for New Year’s Eve lunch as a party of 5 with 2 kids. They had something for everyone. Great service and it was quiet. It has a unique atmosphere and great cocktail list. We tried the cider and G&T royale, both excellent. Can’t wait to explore more of the menu on our next visit.
First visit to this new restaurant. Food and service was good. Other than finding leftover food on the starter plates, which server quickly replaced, there were no problems.
Loved it ; great cocktails & barware , fun food & atmosphere.
Slow service - cocktails arrived after appetizers.
Food was average, shaved biltong was a disappointment.
cocktails were well made, when they finally arrived.
Great food undermined by an ear damaging and completely conversation drowning music volume and odd ability to fail at basics. Extremely overpriced for portion size quantity even with great quality . Strong and polite servers and service have to work to overcome failure on basics like no bread or dipping condiments with all Biltong platters, no crackers with soup, no tea or coffee available at all. O couldn’t even get hot water with lemon while sitting outside. Terribly slow kitchen but someone was perhaps out... food was great but won’t be headed back and cannot recommend
Just a great place to grab a casual dinner with a South African menu and decor
Didn't really live up to the hype for me. The sesame bowl didn't contain all that was listed so I made side requests. It was just ok for me
Space cowboy and chicken spring rolls, might write an in depth later!
Jeff & the entire crew were fantastic. Great food, drinks (the painkiller :) ) and atmosphere were great. I think this will be a new regular for us.
Food was great! A little pricey but overall worth it for the experience. My wife and I celebrated our 16th Annivesary here. She is originally from South Africa, and very much enjoyed the wine and cuisine!
My girlfriend and I had a great time. The food was great, the drinks were on point, and the staff was kind and helpful. Definitely plan on going back.
This review should be taken in context that we ate here during their first week of being open - so I feel like maybe things will perk up as time passes. We ate outside on the lower patio (yes, we're still in a pandemic) and that was nice - plus there were heaters available for each table! The servers were all friendly. The cocktails were incredible - we were accidentally delivered a cocktail for another table in addition to our own (a happy oops on our part) and we loved BOTH of them! So while the food was just "meh" in my opinion, we all agreed we'd come back to sit on the patio, have good drinks and share friends or an appetizer. The biltong sampler--while fun, all tasted the same to us? Again, not the most memorable experience ever, but I'm chalking much of it up to the fact that it's the first week since opening.
Drinks are incredible. Food a little pricey for the servings. $8 for small serving of popcorn is a great example. Atmosphere is great, fun place.
