Billy's Seafood Company
We had a fabulous meal. Only complaint was the vegetables with one of the dishes were hard, but with all of the other food, the vegetables were decorations.
Went for dinner for our anniversary, my wife had the bouillabaisse and I had the seafood platter. We were both very happy with our meals. Oh, and the calamari appetizer was amazing, cooked perfectly!
Our server was good the meal was too cheesy and creamy for our taste. Very noisy table next to us so would of preferred waiter put us in one of other areas vacant in restaurant. Felt like it was going through motions rather than happy in job. Water was asked for twice but drinks were good
Service was great, menu was extensive with lots of choice, not just seafood. Our halibut and scallops was prepared perfectly, not over-cooked. Price is a bit high, but still reasonable for well prepared seafood.
It was our first time there, our family was down from Montreal and love seafood. We were very pleased with the food and the service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to my friends. Food was very good and the service was excellent
I had the lightly beer battered Haddock, fish was perfectly cooked and delicious.
Casual fish themed pub like restaurant. The fish is fresh and well prepared.
The food was pretty good, not great. Very expensive for what you got. Nose level, so high could barely hear your companions at small table. Servers were excellent, but not enough of them to stay on top of things. The noise level and service promptness might improve on a less busy night, but it would still be overpriced for just average food. I would not go back and I would not recommend.
We arrived few mins. early for our reservation and sat at the bar. There were tables available so finally a half hour or so past our reservation time we enquired. They thought we just wanted to sit there for a while. The table given was in back corner and felt cool even with sweater on. Now to the food. We ate a lot! I did however feel that even though the food was great it always seemed cool or got cool fast. I had seared digby scallops which I found could have been seared much more. The coconut shrimp were great. And the Crobster dip was amazing with the chips. Dinner was great, however still a bit on the cool side upon arrival. I had lobster dinner and made it a splash which means lobster, mussells, shrimp and scallops. My husband had seafood medley over pasta. The noodles could have been cooked a tad more, and I think a larger portion of noodle also in my opinion. This was our first time there, have always wanted to go. Also we were celebrating our 27th anniversary. I will go again, and try different menu items. Staff were quite nice I must say as well.
Awesome lobster rolll
Gold place. Gold fond, gold service. A little toi noisy
Our server was excellent and I had the best lobster I have ever had here!
Lobster not sweet, tough and overpriced. Paid $50 for a piece of corn.
Traveling through from New York.
Enjoyed our meal and a very attentive waiter.
A pleasant date night experience. Food is excellent.
La nourriture manquait de goût, très décevant.
We had a great time, food and service excellent, Alex was awesome. Best of best. Thanks
Great food...great staff...would go again...love this resteraunt
1 tiny shrimp and 1 tiny fish dish for $35 !!!
Our server Alex has a great personality and was very friendly. Food was fresh and well prepared. Enjoyed our meal and our time there.
I had two apps: 6 oysters (on the menu, not the oyster bar), and fish cakes for my main meal. The oysters came out room temperature on a bed of lettuce. This was the first time I had them served not on ice, which made them less appealing to eat. I also ordered the fish cakes app, which came out tasting like it was reheated: not cold but not crispy fresh hot out of the frier (had a coating of breading on the cakes)...the cream sauce was also room temperature- not appetizing. My friend had the clam chowder: the broth was very runny and didn’t have much seafood.
Based on other people’s visits, I was hoping this would be a hit, but the whole experience was a complete miss...seems over-rated to me.
My group of fie included 2 children who were able to find reasonably priced dishes that were satisfactory for them. one enjoyed a nice lobster roll, I had expertly cooked scallops, and the fish and chips was reported to be delish. Lovely spot next to the market. Enjoy watching the sidewalk traffic.
Food was awesome, service not good. Waiter was too slow and didn’t care to make the party happy, never around to answer questions too.
Service was extremely slow even though the restaurant was not terribly crowded. I had halibut that was overcooked. My wife had bouillabaisse that had lobster and mussels included in the description, but there were neither of these in the stew. There were 4 or 5 shrimp (probably frozen since one was still ice cold), 2 small scallops, some haddock and a ton of potatoes (which made up the bulk of the bouillabaisse). I never heard of potatoes in bouillabaisse, let alone being the primary ingredient. One of our companions ordered the “large” lobster roll which consisted o a 4” long roll with barely enough lobster to fill it.
I rarely write reviews, but felt I had to vent about this dinner and warn others. DescriptionBouillabaisse
The hash potato scallop dish was NOT good. Really wished I had gotten the seafood medley like my friends did because that was really tasty.
It should be mentioned that the potatoes are in WEDGES. I was expecting hashed potatoes. Potato wedges in a tomato based sauce are very boring.
Service and ambience were good.
Mussels were sandy and tough. Lobster barely was legal size if that, with one of the claws very tiny. Also it was tough. Service poor- obviously understaffed
I didn’t like the chowder, and the deep fried seafood plate was really oily.
They don't want us at this restaurant!?
June 30t we came to Saint John. Found the place on google look through the reviews and went in. We did not have a reservation. In half empty restaurant they put at the bar. Fish and chips was great. On July 5th we decided to come back. We made a reservation online for 7:30pm. In half empty restaurant with reservation they put us next to the toilet. On the question “can we be moved to another table” the response was they are reserved, people called. More people were leaving then coming in. Table stayed empty....
They started rushing us out:
We ordered drinks, appetisers and main courses; After the appetisers were served Literally in a couple of min we were told that our main courses were ready to be serve as well; in 2 min we had all dishes on the table piled upon us; we swallowed oysters and salad as fast as we could so main would not be getting cold. Fish and chip was good. Oysters is ok mussels were horrible. 40 min later we were leaving and felt like Fast food pit stop experience. And at 8:30PM on Friday the place was almost empty.
Amazing good and service with a smile. Will be back again!
Good meal for a special occasion. Restaurant a bit pretentious (not a negative thing) for my normal liking, but that is what I was looking for on a special night out. Value of meal was as expected for the type of higher end restaurant. Opentable reservation had not been acknowledged by the restaurant, but luckily there was space to sit. "Dining area" (option on Opentable) is on the opposite side of the restaurant from the Bar seating, so noise travelled throughout the room (one large room). With 2 staff within feet of doorway when we entered. neither took the opportunity to greet us and acknowledge a host would be with us soon. We stood and waited a few minutes until the host(ess) came from the kitchen area and sat us down (after not fi doing our reservation). Meal and service was good. Nothing bad to say, but also, nothing to rave about. Amazes me still how restaurants who want to charge a premium for who they are and what they serve, do not go the extra mile to make you feel as an appreciated customer. I get no different treatment from eating in a diner.
Food was satisfactory. Seafood prepped well but nothing spectacular. Slow service. Lacking ambiance for a seafood spot. Overall we had an enjoyable meal, just nothing to write home about.
Seafood chowder was sadly lacking in seafood. Very disappointing.
Food was outstanding. Fresh seafood that was quite affordable. Would definitely recommend.
While traveling, we enjoyed the outstanding smoked salmon appetizer, amazing planked smoked salmon, excellent bouillabaisse and delicious berry cobbler ala mode. The excellent waiter knew his wines and the other waiter was also friendly and excellent. We observed a large nearby party enjoying amazing-looking fish and chips. If only we stayed in town to try them...but we didn’t. We know our food , and we highly recommend Billy’s.
I had the halibut special and found the fish to be over cooked. I like my fish glossy in middle. Fish Sat Night was a little dry. However the wait staff were lovely and the ambiance beautiful. I will be back just might not order the fish
The food was simply amazing. Our server, Buffy, made our experience there so much fun with her wonderful energy and personality. The portions were perfect and the food prepared perfectly as well!
This place is super-expensive. No surprise. You will get really delicious high quality seafood - and the dessert we had was top-notch, too.
Notes: Totally not accessible! Steps. The bathroom is down a flight of stairs. And IMO the fake fireplace that produced no heat at all was kind of creepy.
Seafood splash was good the scallops and shrimp excellent the lobster was over cooked and rubbery the muscles were average
The server forgot our order of salmon flatbread and was very inattentive spending to much time chatting up a couple of blondes at the bar over all was ok
I booked a table and a couple of walk up customers were given a window table. So I was put by the toilet/kitchen entrance. I ordered crab cakes and a seafood linguini. Both were ok. Not very hot. Came in seconds which always makes me suspicious that things are pre-prepared. Service was friendly and efficient. I don’t think I would visit again.
Crystal was a fabulous waitress and Buffy the best hostess ever. They made us feel so welcome and part of the family. I’ll be back sooner than expected. My top choice for restaurants in Saint John. Loved it!!!!!!
