Historically interesting building. Standard fare.
This place is magical. The precursor to the Polo bar. Staff is attentive and a delight.
The fact it’s in a townhouse can be misleading. One may think pretentious or stuffy. It’s just a real nyc type of place. Nothing pretentious at all. Good food, service and the feel inside is amazing.
The decir and food were not only excellent, everyone was so nice!
Always a solid meal. They have a nice variety of upscale tavern style food, all great.
Top shelf Beef Wellington and mushroom risotto! Will come back again.
As always, superb food, service and ambiance. Nothing else like it in the city!
Seated right away, service was fantastic and the food was perfect. This was my first tine here but I’ll be back very soon. Loved it.
Had a fabulous time here for Valentines Day! Look forward to returning.
celebrated our Valentine’s at Bill’s Townhouse. We received 5 star service from the moment we walked in the door. The host and hostess were polite and accommodating, the bar tender was friendly and funny, and when we finally made it upstairs we were beyond impressed. Complimentary rosé wine and a complimentary rose flower upon being seated at the table!! (Very nice touch, Mr. bill’s townhouse). The turf & surf special was outstanding and our server, Tana, was a true gem. The manager/maitre’d, Michael, not only spoke to and spent genuine time with us but I witnessed him do the same with every single table (again, very nice touch Mr. bills townhouse) To be honest I could not have asked for a better experience. Don’t change a thing, Bills, because your food cannot be beat and your service is quite possibly the best of any in manhattan.
I had never heard of this restaurant but decided to give it a try for lunch. It was very busy but it’s broken up into different rooms on three floors so it didn’t feel chaotic. It’s very interesting physically. My only caveat : lots of stairs! The ladies room is 2 very long and steep flights up!
Purely eh, nothing special but nothing terrible. Not rushing back!
Somewhat limited entrée selection (with steak and fish leading the parade); and limited wine by the glass (although both I and my companion enjoyed our cabernet and chardonnay selections). Very warm and cozy ambience.
Bar is also VG.
One of the best meals we have had in NYC
The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, the food excellent, and if you are lucky enough to hear Nat play and sing in the Bar you will have the complete experience.
Amazing service and atmosphere. Great food too.
Good food and atmosphere. Bar area very loud.
It was such wonderful experience at the Bill’s!!
They upgraded us, table for 8 to a private room. The waiter and waitress were fantastic and caring.
My top two best Rib Eye in the city for sure, after I have tried more than 15 restaurants.
I’m going again this week
Brought my in laws here for their first time. Bill’s is definitely a hit amongst all ages. The history of the iconic building, the exceptional menu, and the above & beyond service makes this place must try.
Warm and attentive service by Danielle, excellent Branzino main dish and flourless chocolate cake dessert, and a nice ambience made for a very good experience. My daughter thought it was the grandest restaurant she'd ever seen, and we do eat out a lot. Only complaint: music by the pianist in the downstairs bar was loud enough that it conflicted with the dining room's soft Brazilian jazz, since we were seated across from the open door. Overall, though, I recommend. (The cheeseburgers looked good, by the way, if looking for a way to dine here without spending too much.)
Listening to Nat Osbourne on the piano singing while having a meal in the bar with friends was fantastic, what a super performer.
Great food and quality service.
Wow. Another amazing night at Bill’s Townhouse. Beef Wellington was outstanding. Ask for Edward (waiter) as he is as good as they come! Thank you, Bill’s!
Amazing time! Great service, delicious food, and an eclectic venue.
what a beautiful dining experience we had. Jillian, our waitress, was passionate, professional, & amicable. Space was rustic & memorable. Beef Wellington & egg noodles were the highlight of our meal although all the food was remarkable. Will be returning for sure.
Bill’s had amazing service, amazing food and we had an amazing time!
The BEST Beef Wellington
Delicious food, superb service, and a very nice ambiance. What more could you ask for?! Highly recommend!
Nice restaurant for a romantic meal. Unfortunately, the food was below par. Menu was limited with lackluster options. The only specials were appetizers. I had the impression the restaurant wasn't really trying.
Friends and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at Bill's Townhouse on Saturday night. Great 'old world' comfy yet sophisticated atmosphere, delicious food and attentive friendly service. Surprised by the background dinner music (Beatles and other 60's decade hits) - but we enjoyed it and it was not too loud. Regarding our entree selections...two of us ordered the pork chop (thick and juicy - amazing), one loved her Lamb entree and the fourth guest had the Beef Wellington (which was pricy at $75), but he raved about it! Very nice wine list. We all would definitely return and recommend to friends.
Pork Chop is way overcooked. When we asked what temperature the chef cooks pork to, we were told medium well. They won't cook any differently. They should let people know when they order pork is will be dry as sand and flavorless. General Manager said nobody has ever mentioned this before. I find that hard to believe. Especially at their price point.
THE DECOR IS JUST BEAUTIFUL! You feel you are eating in a museum townhouse. Very warm ambiance and the walls are filled with old world art that makes you feel you are eating inside a museum townhouse. Different and you can actually talk and hear the other person! No loud music competing with your conversations! Great for dates as well as groups. Food was excellent!
I love this restaurant - it’s one of my favorites, but this evening was completely off. Maybe because it was right after the holidays, but definitely not up to the usual standard.
There didn’t seem to be any Maitre d at the door this evening. We checked our coats with someone who gave us a ticket, but when we left, found our coats just left on the desk at the front door - available for anyone to take, which was completely unacceptable. If the person working the door had to leave, they should’ve brought us our coats upstairs.
Other guests came wondering upstairs asking other guests if we knew where the maitre d was to seat them.
Very disappointing and unusual experience for this place.
Our favorite!
The restaurant was great as was the food.
Very large portions.
However, if I was to have just dropped in from off the street and was greeted by Andrew the host I would have left.
Certainly not an individual I would ever want at my front desk.
I eat out on an average about 5 times a week and this was the worst first impression I have every had arriving at a new restaurant.
It’s not easy (or generally fair) to focus on one person when asked to review but this gentleman was hardly breathing and I do hope he is well.
Nice setting- food was a little salty.
It’s amazing every time I go. This time it was no different.
I LOVE this place. I go all the time and somehow, it gets better and better.
Excellent food and excellent service. One of our favorite places in NYC
Christmas with family from out of town
