This restaurant has changed hands and is not the same place either by name or food. Also the wait staff seemed pretty bored. As soon as we realized we left.
Bijou is now closed. I made a reservation using Open Table from a link on the Bijou website, but when we got to the restaurant they were having an opening celebration for the new restaurant called Playt. I guess Bijou just never bothered to take down their website.
I have been to Bijou a few time before and really enjoyed myself, this time it wasn't a great time. Although the food and drink were good, the service was very slow for an almost empty restaurant, I won't be going back, I will fine nicer places to have dinner
We went to this restaurant based on yelp reviews but we received a different menu. Apparently they have new ownership and changed the menu. The food was awful. Chicken was under cooked but calamari was over cooked. The flat bread is literally flat with no taste. I would only recommend this place for the bar area and cocktails. The drinks were awesome.
We went post-menu change over to Cajun and the food was GOOD!! I was so pleasantly surprised. Our waiter was a little green, and the bartender a little loud - but both were so friendly. This restaurant has great potential, I highly recommend!
Fabulous modern restaurant with exquisite menu items and ambiance in a lively setting in downtown Hayward. The new ownership is making this hot spot even better than before and they may rebrand it. One of the owners (Michael) is a successful restauranteur and operator from well-known Oakland hot spot Pecan restaurant. We met Michael and his waitstaff at this Hayward location and the service and food was top notch! Definitely recommend for a special and elegant night outin downtown Hayward.
The restaurant Bijou is no more! They completely changed the menu and the food. It was LOUD as the music is cranked and the bar patrons were getting very drunk and very loud. Food is all Cajun now....gone is the fine cuisine of the past....Avoid this place....
New management or ownership understood, but I've been to this restaurant a ton of times and have NEVER had service that bad. Couldn't even get a refill on water! I asked for a manager and that took another thirty minutes before the "bar manager" came over, recognized me and apologized because they are "transitioning". My advice? Skip it until they have finished. Not worth the time let alone the money. $65 for 3 entrees, no sides and some water.
Switch of ownership and non-acceptance of Groupon ruined the Valentines Eve dinner. Bought Groupon for restaurant a month and half ago for Valentines Day. Upon arrival, hostess checked reservation after I showed her my confirmation and Groupon code and seated my wife and I at a small table near the street side patio doors. We were brought a special menu and drinks and water and, when ordering from special menu, wife was informed that establishment was out of pork chops. She was offered prime rib. Food was good, service sketchy as seemingly overbooked. We were supposed to get champagne, but it was never offered. Upon completion of dinner, check was presented and I reminded of Groupon for dinner expense. I was then told ownership changed and new owner would not honor Groupon full coverage of dinner as described on site. Only the $39.99 paid for the Groupon was honored. I paid $75 out of pocket to cover the balance on a deal that should have been honored in good faith by management. I won't be returning and after calling to confirm, I was told by employee that only the price of the Groupon would be honored not the special complete meal with champagne.
Went for Valentine's Day. Food was tasty, but took a long time and waiters had to be reminded. Hard to find parking so had to wait to get table as was late. Fairly noisy as bar on other side. A bit too much lighting for a dinner setting.
