The food was amazing! Definitely recommend the meat and cheese board. The pasta was very yummy and the salad was fresh and enjoyable. I’m glad we were able to stop in and highly recommend a visit.
We enjoy the pizza and ambience at Biga. We eat there frequently.
I read that BIGA is the best restaurant in the Gaslight Quarter of San Diego. If true...it doesn't bode well for the district. I was surprised by their extremely strict reservation policy that threatened to charge $20 per person for a no show...very unusual. Perhaps that is why there were relatively few people in the restaurant on a Thursday evening with an important concert nearby. My wife and I went with the "special" which may have been a mistake. It was a lasagna with salad and a glass of wine for $30. A good value but I suspect there were much better things on the menu. Our server was fine and the place was OK. I just wouldn't recommend it as I can't point to anything that was particularly noteworthy.
The food was very special - not the standard run of the mill and very tasty.
Great food and wine selection. Chicken Four Ways was delicious and all locally sourced specifically for their restaurant. Friendly staff. Large bar and open kitchen. Highly recommend.
First time at BIGA and enjoyed it. Our waiter was nice and attentive, and the food was delicious. Would definitely go back if I am in the neighborhood.
Way overpriced. For gnocchi and carbonara to cost nearly $30 apiece is over the top. Carbornara was way too wet. Gnocchi seemed rubbery. Roasted carrots were excellent. Flatbread with gnocchi very good. Wine by glass also pricey. Nice wait person. Don’t think we’d return.
It felt more like a coffee shop (with bright lights) than a restaurant with typical mid to high prices. We sat next to a four by four foot pot of dirt that apparently used to have a tree in it. They should have it covered. The staff is very nice which helped make it pleasant. We were there on a Saturday night, 6 people. Food was good but not great.
I was really craving Italian and read glowing reviews of Biga. I just wasn’t blown away especially for the price. The food was all good but nothing spectacular.
Such delicious food, ambiance, and wine! I would recommend the gnocchi to anyone that goes.
We enjoyed the evening but the restaurant was not a major reason. Service was friendly and personal but I had to ask our waiter's name. The food isn't bad but it's very expensive for what you get. Our dinner for four with not that much liquor (only beer and wine are served) was well over $300 before tip.
The place was almost empty, although we were there from 6:30 to after 9. They also ask for a credit card to make a reservation, odd since they had so few diners. Don't expect this place to be around for long with the competition in Gaslamp.
Will be back the next time I’m in San Diego. Outstanding.
Our server was probably high. He put cheese on everything even though we emphasized numerous times that someone in our party was deathly allergic. It was either him or the cook but he definitely seems high. I’m all for getting in a good mental space but not at the cost of everyone else’s experience...
Our best meal during our 1st anniversary trip.
Very lovely restaurant , pizzas were great ! Very disappointed by our server who tried to charge us a extra bottle of wine. The place was empty therefore no excuse to make this kind of mistake . Also , the server did not know well is menu and was unfortunately struggling to answer our question. Would not recommended this place for those reasons
Everything was either over cooked, or undercooked. Good flavors though. I thought it was quite rude that they require a credit card to make a reservation.
I thought the place would be 5 stars and crowded. IT was neither 5 stars nor was it crowded.
This restaurant has it all. The food is extraordinary
Such a fab place!!! Best food ever!!!
Excellent food that was flavorful and just a bit of a different take on traditional Italian meals. High quality food and service!
Good place. Great bread. Will be back to try lunch.
Food and wine were both very great. Ambiance is a bit casual for the price and quality of food they were serving. Service just kept missing the mark.
Some great food options in the gnocchi and wood fired pizza. However, we felt it was overpriced for the offering. Wine was inexpensive by the bottle, certainly a plus.
Only dined here once. The service was mediocre. Food was mediocre.
Pesimo servicio y mala comida
Our banana dessert was both burnt and undercooked, a terrible way to end the meal.
Far too long of a wait for our food and the portions were very small for the price. Waiter was very nice and checked on us several times and the wine was fabulous!
BIGA was one of the most wonderful dining experience my husband and I have ever had. The food, the service, the music, all of it, absolutely excellent! Our server, Brandon, was incredibly genuine and helped to make our evening so special. Also, possibly the best pizza I’ve ever eaten!
The food was great, but not the best I've ever had.
The service was friendly, but didn't blow me away (the server didn't have much to offer when I asked for recommendations)
The atmosphere was cool and clean, but not unique.
The locally sourced ingredients is great, but it could have been presented more. I could have gone through the whole experience without even noticing this great selling point. The server could have done more to explain and describe the source of the ingredients.
The value was fine. As with many "nicer" places you get pretty small portions, but to be fair, the pricing isn't exorbitant, so it's forgivable.
Overall, yeah, I would tell someone to check it out if they were interested, but would not necessarily go out of my way to say "you gotta go!"
Great food, nice people, very central downtown location
We had a delicious dinner at BIGA. Our server was very knowledgeable about each of the dishes - the menu was changing but our server was well versed on the way some of the dishes may be different. The arugula salad was light and perfectly dressed. I had the Carbonara with egg white "foam". This was a very delightful and unique version of carbonara The pasta was perfectly cooked and the dish was beautifully presented.
We went to BIGA on a tuesday night. We had a fair service and meal. What a surprise when we received the bill... Tuesday night is a special event night - all beer and wine @ 50%! Not for tourist I guess... Waiter seemed confused when we requested the discount as if he was not knowing about this promotion. If you put a promotion online, you should be able to offer it to every client.
Our waiter Brandon wasn’t very attentive. We had sat down and it was about 15 minutes before he had come to greet us and get our drinks. The owner had taken over and served us the rest of the night. The food was good we started with the bread plate, pear salad which was stellar, Cesar salad, bolognese, camila pizza were all good.
the best in town. we love the place
Wonderful food. We had a party of 5 so we were able to taste many menu offerings. The risotto and pizzas were our favorites. We started with the bread sampler. Olive tapenade was just a delight for the senses. We tried the gelato for dessert. Salted caramel was heavenly. Can’t wait to go back to Biga.
Passion and pride in the food and wine that is served is plainly evident at Biga. Go there to enjoy Italian food par excellence.
Pre - Symphony bites and a free glass of wine. Outstanding service. A little warm ... perhaps a fan or higher AC.
Delicious, authentic Italian food. The pasta is so fresh, the pizzas are heavenly and the burrata - wow! I had the potato-crusted seabass which was also very good. It was my daughter's 20th birthday and they brought her a bananas flambe. It was very dramatic when they set it ablaze and our wonderful server sang "Happy Birthday!" Such a great dining experience!
