we had the tasting menu.. very surprised that the choice of a tasting menu was not ON the menu not was it an option given to us by the server. We only knew about it from Fodor's travel guide. Every thing was excellent - except the signature elk and quail. We were told at the bar that this was the signature dish. We were so glad this was the last 2 items on the tasting menu. At 6 courses we were full and the elk and quail were so OVER spiced they were not edible. We had to take the skin off the quail to try it and cut the elk medalions in small pieces to taste the elk without a mouthful of spices. honestly, everything else was so superior, this courses tasted like a teaspoon of chinese five spice. Maybe was just us but we would never recommend this dish. We were going to get it as a main, before we descided on the tasting menu.
Food was okay but wine list was full of unknown wines. Service was very good!
We found every element of the meal here to be excellent. The potato and leek soup with the peppery flavor was very tasty, as was my friend's beet salad. [I would have like to have the scallops appetizer, but had to choose among several good options.] The venison was excellent with the juniper sauce and polenta. The quail that went with it was good, but not sensational. My friend's mahi-mahi was quite good, too. Best of all: dessert. The caramel chocolate cake thing was unbelievably good. Phenomenal. And my friend's lavendar creme brulee was also excellent. Combined with a nice selection of breads on the side, and a very apt wine recommendation from our server, and the fact we could walk right in at our reservation time, and I would say it was an excellent experience. Plus all the staff we encountered were very friendly.
As usual this restaurant did not disappoint me. I always enjoy myself when I come. This was my third visit. Very classy, romantic feel to any evening or event you may have. They also have a banquet room on the top floor which seats a lot.
This was my husband’s birthday dinner; we do enjoy coming to Biga and the food is consistently very good.
We were disappointed in the service this time. Although our waiter, Christian, was a lovely guy, he wasn’t on top of things. The waiter at the table behind us, meanwhile, did a wonderful job explaining how the menu works and telling his table all about the restaurant.
Our appetizer arrived before our drinks so we had to send it back. We had to ask for bread as well; apparently it normally comes after the appetizer, which surprised us. When it did come, the white and wheat breads were tough; the cornbread was exceptional though.
The food was delicious, and we will be back.
Traveling to San Antonio-where we enjoyed our final dinner out at Biga on the Banks. Of all the options there are to choose from, within minutes I had a big smile on my face and was glad we settled on eating here. Food and wine options were amazing as was the service.
This was a great eating experience all round and on top of that was excellent value! Staff were friendly and restaurant had a very laid back atmosphere with genuine staff. We will definitely be back!
This review is in regards to our third experience at Biga. Our first two trips were wonderful, but for this third time, it was definitely not “the charm”. We received our appetizer and salad in good time and it was delicious. For the main course, we had to wait over an hour! Just for the main course. The kitchen apparently “forgot” or “misplaced” our order. That was really annoying as you can imagine in a place where we spend $200 plus for a party of two. We loved having our date night dinners at Biga but are now very hesitant to return. I’ll also note that the waiters and staff are always great and do what they can to accommodate the wait, but it was just unacceptable.
Anniversary dinner was knocked out of the park. Great food and great service. Special thanks to Chris Sanders for the exceptional service.
Great view of a quiet section of Riverwalk. Our waitress was helpful and food was superb- especially the Venison and quail. The chocolate whiskey cake was decadent.
This restaurant was recommended to us and met expectations. Lovely setting, creative food, great service and top drinks list.
Visited for a special birthday dinner. Chris was amazing and attentive in the perfect manor. We started with a glass of champagne to celebrate the birthday girl, moved to a Pimm's Cup. We ordered the warm spinach salad (very very nice) next was the Foi Gras, which was rich and delicious. The wine list is, indeed, impressive and we enjoyed a nice Malbec. I had the Red Snapper (I recommend this, but not sure I enjoyed what i believe was a bacon wrapped artichoke?? that is the only thing i would have changed on my own plate. ) She enjoyed the Mustard Crusted Australian Lamb Rack and we also ordered Asparagus & Trumpet Mushroom Saute that was absolutely delicious. The evening was absolutely perfect and at the end of the meal she was delighted when she was presented with the Grand Marnier Soufflé personalized for her special day.
Thank you so much Chris for making this a very special occasion for a very special person. We will return again very soon.
Good food and service. I had the venison and quail and it was very good.
Service prompt and food delivered timely.
Food very good!
Very loud. Waiter did not have good knowledge of the menu, service was very slow, and our order was wrong.
Very good meal and attention to detail.
Great service and location on the river walk. We had the 3 course price fixe and especially loved the sticky toffee pudding for dessert.
Absolutely wonderful! One of the best if not the best restaurant on the river. Everything we had was prepared to perfection. I would recommend reservation even during the day dining.
Great meal and great service! The half roasted chicken was outstanding! And get the Sticky Toffee Pugding for dessert!
This was our first time at Bigas and we will definitely go back. The food is incredible and possibly the best that I have enjoyed in San Antonio. The atmosphere is nice in a quiet part of the Riverwalk.
Our first meal here as out of town visitors was pleasant, tasty, and relaxing. I liked the ambiance and the dishes that were unique yet familiar. It was recommended by my sister, who is definitely a foodie.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Our server, Chris, was engaging, knowledgeable, and attentive! We wholeheartedly recommend Biga on thebBanks! Ask for Chris; he’s been there since it opened!
Great experience! Definitely recommend!!!
Enjoyed this restaurant many times over the years. Always awesome.
The service was phenomenal. The food was spectacular. An extensive and wonderful wine list. The menu had everything from seafood to vegan to venison. We all got something different and shared each other’s. I would highly recommend this restaurant . Just know before you go that it is expensive.
One of the best dinners we’ve had in s long time. The drinks were amazing too!
Delicious food and wonderful service.
This was a wonderful dining experience for us
Perfectly prepared food and presentation was over the top. Do not pass this one if your are in San Antonio
We visited during the Final Four. Our reservation was promptly available and the dinner was fabulous! Our server was friendly and extremely helpful in providing tips on the menu. All of the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The entire service team was attentive to our timeframe and needs. Absolutely would recommend Biga to anyone visiting San Antonio!!
Biga on the Banks opened for lunch as a special event during the NCAA Final Four. We had a wonderful late lunch there, without there being a huge crowd. Standouts were the seared fois gras, the warm spinach and brie salad and the Grand Marnier souffle. Service was food, without being intrusive.
Wonderful meal and service. It is our first time in Texas and did some research before coming for places to eat and our meal lived up to all the accolades and reviews I read. Our server Chris was fantastic. This is a must stop for any foodie.
A delightful evening with superb food and service! We both had the rack of lamb and it was exceptional. Biga will not disappoint!
This was my first time at Biga....and this is now my favorite restaurant in San Antonio! The food was absolutely delicious, well presented and wonderfully tasty. The service was impeccable and the wait staff was very good and helpful. I would highly recommend this place for any occasion.
Very busy place. Interesting menu... Tried several Items. Was not impressed with the seafood cioppino. Too much of a mash up of fish. The elk was great and the salads we tried were very good. Overall a nice evening.
Food was creative and fresh. The staff was attentive and helpful in making selections. The dining room presents a cozy but modern ambience. All of us enjoyed our meals from land to the sea. The chicken fried oysters were amazing! You won’t be disappointed.
Our waiter was great and the meal was excellent!
We would definitely recommend and we are only here for 4 days but wanted to return!!!!
We were given the private room which was great for 10 people. Rob our server was amazing at customer service. The wine and spirits selection was to die for and the food was absolute perfection. From the venison to the fried oysters...the meal and wine was perfection.
Wonderful! Filet was outstanding.
