Biga on the Banks Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I dined at Biga’s for our date night in San Antonio after reviewing several choices along the river walk in the downtown area within walking distance of the Marriott Riverwalk. We had an early evening seating and had a quiet table for two by the window overlooking the SA river. Our waiter was quite knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the menu, and based on our comments actually suggested the fixed price menu for early diners which provided choices of either three or four courses. We both chose the three course option, and found the food to be outstanding. My wife enjoyed the hearts of romaine salad, beef tips, and a toffee tart and I selected the potato leek soup, pan seared redfish, and a chocolate mousse. It was more than enough food and did not break the bank; an excellent value. We will return if we are in the San Antonio area again.
This was our second time to Biga, and we knew we wouldn't be disappointing. The food here cannot be beat. The fact that the chef offered southern Texas antelope that night was a particular highlight for us, as my fiance and I love exotic meats. In addition, we also had scallops with a vanilla pineapple chutney, BBQ ahi-tuna, quail, and chocolate mousse with raspberries for dessert, all of which were outstanding. The only thing of note was that the service was not quite as personal as I'd remembered it, which was a shame. Our first time there, the server asked if we'd been there before, went over the history of the restaurant, how everything worked, and inquired about our occasion. While there was nothing wrong with the service this visit, I did kind of miss the conversation aspect we'd had before, which made us feel less like just another customer. Either way, if we ever do another weekend getaway and have enough saved, Biga will definitely be on the menu!
We were seated immediately and our waiter was amazing. The food was outstanding! Seared scallops over cheese grits for a starter Is a must. The cornbread is perfect. We had the seafood dish and the fillet. Both were perfect. Absolute must return to sample more of their menu!
I went here excited to get some interesting food but it was quite average. I got the feeling they were resting in their laurels. The menu seemed a bit tired and I’m almost positive they microwaved their ‘famous’ toffee pudding.
Service was good and the staff is friendly.
The outside seating is pleasant
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Biga on the Banks. Service was excellent; the waiter was very knowledgeable about the entire menu, and explained each item we asked about in detail. He was observant of our pace, and each course arrived timely, not too early and not too late. Food was exceptional! Fresh ingredients, well prepared, and tasty. My wife's salmon dish was beautiful and was prepared perfectly to her liking. My Bouillabaisse was filled with fresh fish, mussels and clams, and even included lobster. It was exceptional. The menu is filled with favorites, but also has some unusual choices for those who are adventurous. The Sticky Toffee Pudding dessert topped everything off in fine manner. Such a wonderful evening! Recommended for anyone who enjoys fine dining experiences.
Excellent food and service inside the restaurant. We were celebrating our friend's wedding anniversary and enjoyed the evening. The valet parking was the only problem as they had only 1 person working it and we had to wait upon our arrival and after the meal.
Biga is our go-to spot for exquisite dining. The menu changes frequently with unique selections always expertly presented. It is wonderful for special occasions or every day dining. The best thing about Biga is that most of their entrees come in a full or half portion which means you can enjoy appetizers, an entree and dessert without getting full. And the wine selection is superb. A must dine location when visiting San Antonio
