Very nice table outside and the service was excellent! We especially enjoyed the scallops.
This was our 2nd time at Biga on the Banks while visiting San Antonio and we were not let down. We loved the atmosphere and the accommodating staff. Our server, Chris, was old-school professional without being stuffy, very attentive and offered us details about the food, made some great suggestions and generally pampered us the entire time. The food was exceptional, expertly conceived and executed. A great night out !
The food and ambience was very good to excellent but our meal for two people with tip cost over 200.00. It was not worth that amount therefore I would not go back.
Food was excellent as was the wine. For the price I did not expect such open seating and the close proximity of others. One table near us was very loud which detracted from the romantic atmosphere. The chairs scraped the floor loudly and the tables had a deli feel. I expected better.
Our first trip to San Antonio and this was one if the highlights of our trip
Excellent food and service. I enjoy a restaurant with small plates
Biga offered first class service and food. We were seated in the best seat in the house, a private table directly over the river. Our wine and meal were outstanding. Service...impeccable. We were surprised with complimentary champagne and dessert to celebrate our anniversary. The meal was expensive but we knew that going into it and the service made it worth the money.
Fantastic from start to finish! Not inexpensive, but worth it! Bonus - you can dine outside overlooking Riverwalk. Highly recommend, our best dining experience in San Antonio. Would absolutely go back next time in town. You won't be disappointed - go for it!
One of the more innovative menus in town. From quail with venison to seafood the variety is interesting. Our server was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, attentive. The rack of lamb—excellent, bouillabaisse—delicious, haddock—excellent. Nice wine, pleasant setting. Some private (curtained) spaces available. Will return.
Sitting outside watching ducks and people go by! Perfect!
Biga has always been our go-to for special occasions, especially brunches.
One of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant to date. We were celebrating my husband's graduation from his master's degree and when we arrived, we had to wait about 5-7 minutes for anyone to even greet us at the front. We kept seeing people walk by and no one acknowledged that we were waiting to be sat. We had a reservation and were specific about seating which we did not get and was very readily available. The hostess was dressed with everything hanging out and it was in really poor taste for such a nice place. The server Thomas spoke to us as if we were not familiar with fine dining. We felt discriminated against because we look young. He took so long to get us anything that we ordered and would constantly walk away in the middle of us asking for something we needed or wanted. He filled my husband's glass of water and walked away leaving mine empty. He spoke to bar guests for so long that he didn't bring us our bottle of wine we ordered until after we received our food. We had to sit there and wait for the wine to come while our food was getting cold. He spent so much time at his other tables, we honestly thought he forgot we were there. When he finally brought the wine, he went on and on about Washington wines when it was very clearly an Oregon wine and again proceeded to speak to us in a condescending manner. The bouillabaisse was a pure waste of money. The broth was cold, had a peculiar taste, and all of the seafood was rubbery and over cooked. When I brought it to Thomas' attention, he simply blamed it on their recently promoted chef. We were going to order dessert, but he walked away in the middle of us asking for it so we decided to leave. It was the biggest waste of money between the food and the service and so disappointing since we chose it based on reviews and atmosphere. Again, we were trying to celebrate a special occasion which we reserved two weeks in advance and it was such a let down. We will NEVER be dining here again!
This is one of the best restaurants that we have been to, and we dine all over the world. It’s just a really special find amongst all the other restaurants on the river.
I enjoyed the spinach salad and Alaskan halibut, and my husband really loved his Fish stew. And the soufflé for dessert was so light and fluffy that it just melted in your mouth! Our waiter, Bo, was also terrific!!
The best restaurant around Riverwalk! Everything was perfact!
Food was excellent! Our server was very professional. Unfortunately we were told the chef made a mistake with one of our entrees so we waited a long time for our food to arrive.
This is our favorite restaurant in San Antonio. Food and Service is always great. Enjoyed dining outside for the first time as this section of the river walk is not as busy or noisy as other sections. Love the option to enjoy smaller portions of the main entrees.
Impeccable service and great food. Good views of the people and boats on the river walk.
Great seats overlooking the river. Service courteous but slow.
Our server was amazing! He really made our experience wonderful; especially providing us with a birthday surprise at the end. Very grateful for our night!
Love atmosphere, not loud. Seating inside and outside overlooking the SA riverwalk. The food was tasty, fresh, and creative, but not pretentious. The portions were filling but not overdone. The waiter was very attentive without being overly obtrusive.
Overall, it was a lovely evening with the perfect atmosphere for a quiet, yet upbeat anniversary celebration.
Great flavorful food. Wonderful ambiance. Extremely small portions.
My wife and I went here to celebrate our 24th anniversary. We had great service and the food was outstanding. They offer unique dishes and what we found to be really fun was that they offer half and full size portions for a lot of entrees. This allowed us to sample a broad range of intriguing menu items without gorging ourselves to the point of discomfort. It was a great experience and the atmosphere lends itself to special events. I highly recommend Biga on the Banks to anyone who wants a fantastic dining experience.
I enjoyed everything about this restaurant!!!! Food, service, outside dining, drinks - all exceptional!!!'
We had an early reservation and there wasn’t anyone really seated near us. We had a view of the river walk and received excellent service! The food was all excellent. We’ll be back.
We were blown away by our Anniversary Dinner at Biga on the Banks. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we felt comfortable and that we were going to be taken care of. The hostess was friendly and accommodating. Our waiter went above and beyond...from his expertise, education of the food/menu, to his attentiveness; we were impressed. His attention to detail was superb. We were able to make friendly conversation and he listened to our needs and the reasoning as to why we were dining. He was so sweet and made sure to celebrate our anniversary with a dessert that stated specifically our 9th Anniversary (which we only mentioned at the very beginning of the dinner) & concluded the date with a champagne toast. The FOOD; I cannot say enough wonderful things about the food...we have traveled & explored various restaurants & the food was impeccable...presentation, taste, flavor; all top notch. Thanks for a great anniversary dinner, Biga on the Banks!
My husband and I came to Biga before a show at the Majestic. We had the 3-course meal and everything was delicious, especially the desserts. I would definitely recommend Biga!
The food was outstanding, the service was beyond our expectations and we would highly recommend this restaurant.
Service is awesome and waiters are fantastic: Knowledgable and nice. Great location as well.
Clearly the best restaurant in San Antonio. So refreshing compared to the overpriced and luckluster options typical of the Riverwalk. Biga is the go-to restaurant for my family when we visit San Antonio. Every bite will leave a smile on your face, and the service is incredibly professional.
We were lucky to have been sat at the Chef’s Table for my husbands birthday. Our server Chris was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Ask for the chefs tasting menu! We chose 6 courses and it was wonderful. Definitely recommend for your next special occasion!
Although described as on the river walk, you'll only get a glimpse of the river if you sit on the outside balcony of this office building lobby located restaurant. Interior decor is also unattractive, unsuccessfully attempting to establish a character which is consistent with the building and space. The server decided to feature himself, offering unwelcome opinions seemingly aimed to undermine the knowledge of his customers and guests. At dinner's end, indicated he could not provide a simple dessert combining a scoop of ice cream and sorbet as he would not be able to enter such an order. Food overall was well presented but at this restaurant's price point much more should expected and delivered! Many better choices in town.
we had the tasting menu.. very surprised that the choice of a tasting menu was not ON the menu not was it an option given to us by the server. We only knew about it from Fodor's travel guide. Every thing was excellent - except the signature elk and quail. We were told at the bar that this was the signature dish. We were so glad this was the last 2 items on the tasting menu. At 6 courses we were full and the elk and quail were so OVER spiced they were not edible. We had to take the skin off the quail to try it and cut the elk medalions in small pieces to taste the elk without a mouthful of spices. honestly, everything else was so superior, this courses tasted like a teaspoon of chinese five spice. Maybe was just us but we would never recommend this dish. We were going to get it as a main, before we descided on the tasting menu.
Food was okay but wine list was full of unknown wines. Service was very good!
We found every element of the meal here to be excellent. The potato and leek soup with the peppery flavor was very tasty, as was my friend's beet salad. [I would have like to have the scallops appetizer, but had to choose among several good options.] The venison was excellent with the juniper sauce and polenta. The quail that went with it was good, but not sensational. My friend's mahi-mahi was quite good, too. Best of all: dessert. The caramel chocolate cake thing was unbelievably good. Phenomenal. And my friend's lavendar creme brulee was also excellent. Combined with a nice selection of breads on the side, and a very apt wine recommendation from our server, and the fact we could walk right in at our reservation time, and I would say it was an excellent experience. Plus all the staff we encountered were very friendly.
As usual this restaurant did not disappoint me. I always enjoy myself when I come. This was my third visit. Very classy, romantic feel to any evening or event you may have. They also have a banquet room on the top floor which seats a lot.
This was my husband’s birthday dinner; we do enjoy coming to Biga and the food is consistently very good.
We were disappointed in the service this time. Although our waiter, Christian, was a lovely guy, he wasn’t on top of things. The waiter at the table behind us, meanwhile, did a wonderful job explaining how the menu works and telling his table all about the restaurant.
Our appetizer arrived before our drinks so we had to send it back. We had to ask for bread as well; apparently it normally comes after the appetizer, which surprised us. When it did come, the white and wheat breads were tough; the cornbread was exceptional though.
The food was delicious, and we will be back.
Traveling to San Antonio-where we enjoyed our final dinner out at Biga on the Banks. Of all the options there are to choose from, within minutes I had a big smile on my face and was glad we settled on eating here. Food and wine options were amazing as was the service.
This was a great eating experience all round and on top of that was excellent value! Staff were friendly and restaurant had a very laid back atmosphere with genuine staff. We will definitely be back!
This review is in regards to our third experience at Biga. Our first two trips were wonderful, but for this third time, it was definitely not “the charm”. We received our appetizer and salad in good time and it was delicious. For the main course, we had to wait over an hour! Just for the main course. The kitchen apparently “forgot” or “misplaced” our order. That was really annoying as you can imagine in a place where we spend $200 plus for a party of two. We loved having our date night dinners at Biga but are now very hesitant to return. I’ll also note that the waiters and staff are always great and do what they can to accommodate the wait, but it was just unacceptable.
Anniversary dinner was knocked out of the park. Great food and great service. Special thanks to Chris Sanders for the exceptional service.
Great view of a quiet section of Riverwalk. Our waitress was helpful and food was superb- especially the Venison and quail. The chocolate whiskey cake was decadent.
