Biga on the Banks Ratings and Reviews
Good wine list, excellent wait staff, nice ambience indoor or patio dining. Large portions so we shared, welcome with a small charge. Filet was cooked perfectly, sides were large, bread is delish.
This is a lovely restaurant for couples with an interesting menu, ie antelope and quail as well as typical offerings.
Our server forgot two side dishes, which was disappointing. The hostess was very accommodating and the bar drinks were excellent. The fish dish was good but nothing special. Wet also had a very nice quinoa dish with sweet potatoes. The layers of flavours were very good. Thank you for the vegan options.
Tucker was a fabulous waiter. Very professional. He guided us through the menu. And let us sample the wine and beer before ordering a bottle.
I had the Pre Fixe dinner. Red Snapper was superb. The Hubs had the Antelope & Quail. Quite unique & delicious. Sticky Toffee pudding was to die for. We had a table by the window, overlooking the River Walk. It was a perfect dinner.
Staff is amazing. Food is amazing. Always get more than you paid for. We had a rehearsal dinner there back in October and Rudy was in charge of our party. He did an excellent job! We had to come back for New Years Eve. Rudy just happened to be there so he came over to our table to say hello. He remembered us!!! We will definitely make your restaurant a more frequent stop.
We stopped in for desert and coffee because we wanted to try they Sticky Toffee Pudding. Needless to say the Sticky-Toff at Bigga is among the top 5 I have had (it is the best in the US). The Creme Brulee was also very good.
The staff was very accommodating even though we were a short turn table. They understood what we came for and provided excellent service to that end.
Wonderful experience. Brought my sister visiting from Florida and friends to see the lights and boats and enjoy a good meal. We had a wonderful private table that was great for visiting and after the meal went outside on the balcony to see the lights. It was great but the best part was excellent service and a superb meal. We were all delighted with the food and service and know we will be back to enjoy this again! Thank you!
I've got to say Biga on the Banks was welcoming from the very start. The door was opened for us as we walked in, hostess was friendly and courteous, wait staff was attentive but not hovering. We were celebrating our 23rd anniversary and we certainly made the right choice. Next time we'll ask for a table by the window but our table was nice and quiet so no complaints from me. We each started off with a glass of wine (they have an extensive selection) while looking over the menu. We both ordered from the autumn fare and chose the 4 course menu. We started w the chickpea w shredded cabbage soup. Followed by a crisp heart of romaine salad w homemade croutons & a nice tangy dressing. Main course was melt in your moth tender beef tips cooked perfectly served with fresh greens and fingerling potatoes. Dessert. Oh my favorite part!! I ordered Creme brûlée. Just heavenly. So rich a delicious. Incredible flavor of vanilla. (Pretty sure I saw flecks in the vanilla bean in the custard!! Yum!) This was served w a few berries on the side. My husband enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding w vanilla cream sauce. Of course I had to try his too. Deep molasses flavor that was warming on the cool December evening. Both were beautiful plated and they even wrote happy anniversary on our plates. Nice touch!! It was a memorable was to celebrate. Thank you Biga on the Banks!! Well tell our family and friends and will definitely be returning.
We visited Biga to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was top tier. We had a corner table with a view of the River and Christmas lights. Service was up to a Continental standard, and the food was excellent. My sole was perfectly done and nicely presented. We'd come back in a minute. A photo of my vegetable cake dessert is included. It was great.
We went to Biga’s on the first night of a mini vacation in San Antonio. What an absolute gem! The food is simply amazing. Our four person party spanned the gamut from low cholesterol, nearly vegan, to a big time lover of game meats. Veggie’s, salmon, lamb, and the antelope/quail dish were superb. We all came away thrilled! The service was as enjoyable as the food. We will be back. Often!
My husband had the roasted smoked chicken and it was excellent. I had the sole and it was very good and I especially liked being able to get a half portion after ordering the appetizer. We were visiting S.A. over Christmas and were concerned about our casual dress.... not a problem. Casual elegant includes jeans!
My family and I were very much looking forward to our evening at Biga. We have been there several times and enjoy the view of the river walk and so forth. This visit however, turned out to be problematic. Apparently the waiter thought were the biggest rubes in the place. He proceeded to tell us all about himself and his tenure with Biga, and all about Chef Auden as if we couldn't possibly have known. He then proceeded to commit a real faux pas. He failed to notice the name on the credit card, and presented the check to my brother in law, assuming he was paying the bill. The tip was commensurate with his attitude. The food: good but not great. I ordered the beef tips, they were mushy and the gravy was salty. I
We eat out three times/week and try a variety of cuisines. We selected this restaurant from the list on opentable and was expecting great things. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The dishes looked appealing but lacked taste. Both of us used "bland" to describe our meals.
Overall, the restaurant is overpriced and overrated.
Took my girlfriend here to propose to her. Michael, our server, helped me orchestrate the surprise. That special occasion aside, Michael was very knowledgeable. Definitely one of the finest dining experiences downtown has to offer. If you're like me and don't have a "refined" palette, you'll still be able to appreciate the dishes, even if you are left a bit confused as to what you are actually tasting.
Considering this was my 40th anniversary, the free glass of Champaign didn’t satisfy my wife or I.
I made the reservation days in advance and they still stuck us in the dining area on a large table with no ambience.
The steak was overpriced and not the best cut or preparation.
Absolutely delicious--everything! We went before going to the Majestic Theater and all ordered from the prix fixe menu. Between the 3 of us, we tried all the choices. The portions were generous...we had PLENTY to eat! I treated my daughters to the evening & they LOVED it!
Biga is our favorite restaurant for special occasions and taking friends. Chef Bruce Auden always delivers unique, fresh and tasty items that have broadened our palette for fine foods. Our favorite thing to do is order the Chef's tasting menu which is 5-8 (you choose how many) very generous tastings of the fresh offerings of the day. Fish is always good and we have the opportunity to try things we would normally never order off the menu. Like duck. We have never been disappointed. Add the wine pairings and you are set for a wonderful and very filling evening!
Ask for Chris as your server. He's been with Chef Auden for 18 years and is excellent!
My mother and I were in San Antonio for business/vacation and our flight was delayed so we decided to stay an extra night! We wanted a place to relax and have some great food!
Biga on the Banks was a great choice. The menu is a little adventurous which I loved! I have the 11-spiced Texas antelope and Quail. It was one of the chefs specialties and it did not disappoint.
My mom had their homemade eggnog. Which was amazing! We were very happy with our food and drinks. I will say it was a little pricey just for a dinner out. Definitely worth a trip for a special occasion!
The food was wonderful. The soup was light and full of flavor and not too salty. The beef tips and potatoes were perfect. The sticky toffee pudding in custard was delightful. The wine list was great too. The service was really great--everyone was friendly and attentive. It's always fun to dine on the River Walk, especially when it's decorated for the holidays.
My wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary at Biga on the Banks last night. Our waiter, Ceasar, was outstanding. The food was delicious, the ambiance was romantic and the San Antonio Riverwalk was magical. My compliments to the entire staff of Biga on the Banks for making our anniversary a truly memorable event.
