Biga on the Banks Ratings and Reviews
First, I will say that the service was outstanding, absolutely no issues whatsoever with the staff. However, the food was good but not great like most dining options on the Riverwalk. I've been spoiled by stellar meals around the globe and had very high hopes for Biga. I really wish I could give it a glowing review all around but nothing about my meal aside from the service that came along with it was all that impressive.
Booked for a special getaway with my wife and had a great experience.
To our surprise, we were awarded the best table in the restaurant.
Tom was our waiter. He was a pleasure to talk to.
He was also very knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant and food offerings.
The wait staff is very attentive but not overly so.
She had the tasting menu and I had the lamb chops.
Bother we’re great and by the time desert came, hers was enough for both of us.
Thank you for a great meal and experience!
Bruce Auden is a former James Beard award winner and with good reason. He is a creative and talented chef; always has some original ideas on the menu. There are not a lot of vegetarian options but you will always find at least one entree here that is very thoughtfully prepared--not just a bunch of vegetables that were sides for other offerings. Pricing is reasonable for a restaurant of this quality, and you have seating right on the Riverwalk, but not on an overly busy or noisy stretch. And the service is consistently gracious and friendly.
In town on business and this place was suggested by son
Wife and I tried it for dinner and were very pleased on food and service
Wife’s favorite starter fois gras was excellent and she has the French seafood dish while I had the set menu with turkey soup starter, seared halibut entree and sticky toffee pudding dessert 🍮 all were delicious and very well presented👍
Started with cheese plate, very delicious and we'll balanced. I had the antelope and quail. It was very good, the antelope was cooked perfect. My husband had the ahi, which he said was a little more salted than what he would prefer but it was still very good. He loved his sticky toffee pudding and I enjoyed the chocolate tart.
Our first Biga experience was incredible! When reserving a table, we indicated 41st anniversary, which many of the staff had been advised and they greeted us warmly. Biga gave us the best table in the house – two seats in a private corner overlooking the river. Food was fabulous! Portions were perfectly sized so we could sample various items. Scallops, smoked beets, halibut, lamb, pozole, and English custard were spectacular! Couldn’t have had better service than our server, Gabriel, provided. Our dessert dish came with an anniversary wish hand-inscribed in dark chocolate. Wine list has something for everyone, and they have a superb selection of spirits. This might have been the best-tasting meal and dining experience we’ve ever had – can't recall anything that beats this. I'm virtually drooling as I recall the experience – can't wait to make an excuse to go back!
What an amazing dinner from start to finish. Chef Auden works magic with food! The Red Snapper was the most incredible serving of fish I've ever enjoyed! The warm spinach salad with Brie and apples, oh yum! The 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed every appetizer, entree and dessert! Service is impeccable! The view of the riverwalk lights was just an added perk.
Biga on the Bank was the best restuarant that I had tbe pleasure to eat at during my recent trip to San Antonio. The service was surpurb. The timing of the cources ordered was spot on. All entries exceed our expections. The price of of the meal while high was a great value considering the quality of the food and the service.
The best. Fabulous wine list with 100pt wines from Parker, selections by Heidi Barrett, Chateau Haut Brion, etc... just really suited for the oenophile. Antelope and quail entree was excellent. Artistry. If you love food, this is the place. The old fashioned is also delicious. 5 stars and not outrageously priced by any means for the quality.
Our dining experience here was amazing. Wait staff was very attentive, food was incredible. We did the tasting menu, and the portions were Texas-sized, so didn't feel like a tasting. The timing was perfect and the flavors were creative and explosive. Couldn't recommend this place more. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it!
My wife and I dined at Biga’s for our date night in San Antonio after reviewing several choices along the river walk in the downtown area within walking distance of the Marriott Riverwalk. We had an early evening seating and had a quiet table for two by the window overlooking the SA river. Our waiter was quite knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the menu, and based on our comments actually suggested the fixed price menu for early diners which provided choices of either three or four courses. We both chose the three course option, and found the food to be outstanding. My wife enjoyed the hearts of romaine salad, beef tips, and a toffee tart and I selected the potato leek soup, pan seared redfish, and a chocolate mousse. It was more than enough food and did not break the bank; an excellent value. We will return if we are in the San Antonio area again.
This was our second time to Biga, and we knew we wouldn't be disappointing. The food here cannot be beat. The fact that the chef offered southern Texas antelope that night was a particular highlight for us, as my fiance and I love exotic meats. In addition, we also had scallops with a vanilla pineapple chutney, BBQ ahi-tuna, quail, and chocolate mousse with raspberries for dessert, all of which were outstanding. The only thing of note was that the service was not quite as personal as I'd remembered it, which was a shame. Our first time there, the server asked if we'd been there before, went over the history of the restaurant, how everything worked, and inquired about our occasion. While there was nothing wrong with the service this visit, I did kind of miss the conversation aspect we'd had before, which made us feel less like just another customer. Either way, if we ever do another weekend getaway and have enough saved, Biga will definitely be on the menu!
We were seated immediately and our waiter was amazing. The food was outstanding! Seared scallops over cheese grits for a starter Is a must. The cornbread is perfect. We had the seafood dish and the fillet. Both were perfect. Absolute must return to sample more of their menu!
