The service was Very slow! There were no blue cheese olives for the bloody Mary’s and I was told I would get a discount on my bill that never materialized, many items on the menu were unavailable, it took forever to get food and drinks and the refill on coffee was nonexistent. Our food was good but the service, subpar.
Love this place!!! My mom and I came here for Mother's Weekend at U of I. We attended the Sunday brunch and everything from start to finish was amazing. The place was beautiful and the food was awesome.
Nice. Good service. Host gave us some attitude about being a few minutes late (called a few minutes earlier to let them know).
Had a special menu for Mom's Weekend, limiting their menu with certain items, but also had great specials with flavorful dishes. Quick seating with reservation and decent service.
The place was soo busy that our waitress, although nice, made us incredibly nervous. I think she was trying to act calm but had way too many tables to service. It was strange, we felt rushed even though the service was slow (slow in a good way). Someone was always filling out water glasses -- that's good. Something about the whole place was off -- it was loud, our waitress, the 'okay' food. Maybe we'll just have to try it again.
The menu has potential but the execution is lacking. Too much dressing on the salads, limited flavor in breakfast burrito, stale donut for dessert
This was a fun place UIUC Mom’s Weekend, got a last minute reservation at a favorable time. The service was great, gets very loud when busy. Our only warning is to those who don’t eat spicy. The risotto had a spicy sauce under the rice that was not noted as spicy on the menu.
Had to ask twice for our drink order, was not busy. Food was not cooked to order. Dessert menu was awful. I wish the restaurants in Champaign would focus on good food not weird ingredients. I will take a pass on olive oil on my vanilla ice cream.
Meal was good and the dessert was phenomenal. However, the service was lacking. The waiter rarely came over to refill drinks. Service was slow despite the restaurant not being near full.
This is an excellent restaurant and I always enjoy eating here.
Food was good and service was great. First time at this place and we would definitely go back again.
Our waiter was terrific. He gave us just the right amount of attention. The guacamole deviled eggs were bland but the kale & quinoa salad was yummy. Prime rib on weekends - awesome
The food is very tasty and the atmosphere is comfortable. The staff was nice. Great flavors. Good brew.
Big Grove has a unique variety of brunch selections, but was a bit loud and was overcrowded at the time we went. Would definitely recommend for a dinner place though! The smoked paprika popcorn is a nice touch.
Aged steak had very little taste. The waiter was very nice and atmosphere was good, but the food was not worth the high price.
When I make a reservation on OpenTable and don’t get credit I can’t give a good review. Simple.
We had an Open Table reservation, were excited to try this restaurant and arrived into the lovely large dining area.....and were promptly taken to a back room and sat in the farthest corner of that room. There WERE several open tables in the front, more lively area. I felt like we were being seated in an overflow room normally used for a party room. While our waitress seemed to be doing her best, we saw very little of her, and it took an inordinate amount of time to get our food. And we did not realize ONLY their Sunday brunch menu was available at the time we were there and felt it pretty limited. We were told the kitchen wasn't 'set up' for anything but brunch foods. I don't really buy that as the regular menu began just as we were leaving. Overall, food was good, but I don't think I will be returning.
Busy night as it was Valentine’s Day. All service staff were wonderful and so kind even though they were swamped. The manager Daniel stopped by and our server Tracy checked in just the right amount. We look forward to coming back soon.
Valentine’s Day dinner
We enjoyed a bottomless mimosas with our brunch entrees. I had the hotcakes and they were delicious. Great spot for brunch!
Sunday Brunch was very disappointing. While our party enjoyed the service and the atmosphere, the food was very underwhelming. One of us had a standard breakfast and that meal was good. My wife and I tried a Mexican themed brunch entree that was very much below average. I might go back for drinks, but I will need to see some changes in menu before I would eat there again.
Great food. Very noisy. Service was good but very slow; seemed understaffed.
Having reservations, two of us were seated promptly, another of our small group joined us soon thereafter. We enjoyed a very tasty breakfast. Cream was not immediately offered with the coffee - that was the only service flaw, so overall very good service. I do enjoy Big Grove and have been there many times prior to this review. Highly recommended!
Food was OK. Like the APP hummus platter. My husband got the pork belly ramen, too much ramen and the meat was very greasy. Mine was a salad with chicken, normal as it should be.
Food mediocre at best. Prime Rib chewy and lots of gristle, the medium
rare seared tuna not even close to cooked correctly. So loud our waitress had to scream the specials at our table. Was looking forward to relaxed enjoyable Friday night after a long week at work. Long time until I try again. Not impressed.
We ordered appetizers and entrees. All were delicious. Service was perfectly time, even though the restaurant was very busy. All cocktails we ordered were excellent.
The menu is very unique and the food was delicious. We waited nearly an hour for our food even though it wasn't very busy. Our waiter checked in regularly so I think it was truly the kitchen that was behind.
Very nice environment and great food!
We are giving Big Grove a 2 on food because we had a (rare) unpleasant experience on our recent visit. My husband ordered the "Catch of the Day," which happened to be trout (which he loves) and I ordered fish tacos. When our meal was delivered to us, I thought it odd that the Manager came over with the server. He said to my husband, "I hope it's ok with you but the kitchen ran out of trout so they prepared tuna for you." Well, it wasn't ok at all. Husband doesn't care for tuna even a little bit. Why wouldn't they have let us know ahead of time that they were out of the trout and allowed my husband to make another choice. The way they handled it, he had to send it back and order another entree. All the while, my fish tacos sat in front of me getting cold. I didn't want to eat until husband had his food but he kept insisting that I go ahead. I finally did and the fish tacos were bland and tasteless; not at all what I expected. His entree (a pasta dish) came out when I was almost finished eating and it was very good. However, the experience was way below par and we left extremely disappointed.
Excellent experience! Best food we have had in CU in a long time. Highly recommend the salmon and ribeye!!
Started of good the crab cak were awesome. We all had the prime rib and it wasn’t very good.
Great food, great atmosphere
The food, service and ambiance was lovely. It was a bit pricey.
Our server was amazing. The champagne in the endless mimosa was awful. They will have to do better with that. The food was great!
We were the last table of the day, Christmas Eve, and the snow was really coming down. Though we were the only ones left, they did not hurry us at all, but everyone remained super-friendly, patient with our indecisiveness and they kept the kitchen open until we had everything we wanted. They made all the dishes and drinks we asked for, including a key lime brulee at the end of our meal. My father loved his steak (medium), and I consider him a picky eater. My avocado toast was fresh and balanced in flavors. My son ordered the gumbo dish and did not leave anything behind. We had great food and wonderful service. The holiday music was tasteful, not obnoxious. We will definitely return, with or without a holiday.
I love Big Grove. It's a gem of restaurant that consistently serves delicious, often interesting, food in a town not known to do either. The portions are more than ample, the wine list is reliable and the service is always efficient and pleasant. But it's the food quality and welcoming atmosphere that brings us back again and again. The people at Big Grove care about what they do and the restaurant experience reflects it. That, to me, is an unsung part of what makes going to restaurants special. It's getting harder and harder to find, though, as every business person and their cousin jumps on the restaurant bandwagon. Yet BGT continues to please and impress every time we go.
Great Bar food and nice place to go for drinks and chill. Nice sitting at the bar and to be able to look out on to the busy stree .
Spectacular service! Our table was ready and waiting for us upon arrival and our server was extremely polite and prompt. The menu offered so many delicious choices and the atmosphere was sophisticated and chic but comfortable to almost any taste. We were there for a business meeting but I will certainly return for the next brunch or date night.
Don't go. It isn't worth the mediocre, over alter food.
