Big Fish - Princeton Ratings and Reviews
The food was very average. There was a strong smell of fish when we walked through the dining room which made me worry that the fish being served wasn’t fresh. The risotto that came with my entree was inedible and tasteless. I would not recommend this restaurant.
We came to the restaurant following a concert. Reservation was immediately honored, even though we were about 30 minutes early. The service was great and the food was also great. All of our meals came out correctly, right temperature, very tasty.
Well be back.
We had a very large table for a lunch with 15 people. Although the service was a little slow, and the place was not at all crowded. We had a great server that took care of everything and didn't miss an order or empty glass! She was amazing for all the orders and everything came out perfect. The food was exceptional - my compliments to the chef! I had the salmon and it was done to perfection.
We went to the Big Fish location for a last minute New Years Evening dinner and were not disappointed. We were seated right away (we had a reservation) the people at the front desk were very busy but also very friendly. Our server came right to out table and did a great job of explaining the menu and making recommendations. The food and drinks came in just the right amount of time and we were able to enjoy a great night. Everything we ordered was great. We were not rushed at all. We will definitely go back and will recommend this restaurant to our friends. Thanks again
In spite of the reservation they counld't find our name instantly. We were escourted to the middle table in the restaurant but it was too dark to read the menu. We moved to another table but unfortunately there was a cold draft every time the door openned and we moved to another table. It would be best if they can advise us if that table is not recommended since this is our first visit.
The restaurant was empty and when asked to move, the host told us the rest of tables were for patrons that reserved. We had reservations and not one person entered restaurant while we were there. Waiter did wait for my wife to order as he intrupted to tell her about up charge to where she said forget and just took food as it was, she wanted double veggies and would have accepted the charge had he waited till she was done ordering. I know it was Christmas Eve and regular staff might have been off, but as pricing remains the same I think service should too.
Food was good. Had steamed crab legs but they were cold by the time they reached out table. Ginger rice was okay. Asparagus was just okay too. Cocktail was terrible - used Tang to make the orange flavor and that left a horrible after taste.
Service was horrible. Seems like she just woke up and started work. Never came back to see how we were doing. Didn’t know what came with the meal. Poured water in my wine glass that wasn’t quite empty, didn’t ask if I wanted another glass which in fact I would have enjoyed. Didn’t know how to serve the food once it arrived at the table.
Restaurant was fairly empty yet surrounding restaurants were full with waiting lines. I can only contribute this to the service and price of the food. $30 for snow crab legs was a bit pricey.
Made a reservation at 5:45 and asked for a booth. Got there at 5:40 and there were 3 or 4 tables of the 40+ tables filled at the time. They proceeded to place us in the table next to the bathroom in the back by the cooking area. I informed them this was not acceptable, and stated we requested the booth and had to ask " ...with all these nice tables here (including all the empty booths), why would you possibly put us at the worst table in the place?" .. No answer and when pushed she reluctantly acknowledged it was an undesirable table, and went back to the front to see if it was ok to put us in a booth (at least 5 or 6 were empty) Upon return she placed us in the booth (thank you) but no explanation, no regrets. I respectfully explained to her that I was a long-time customer and really couldn't understand why we were treated this way and asked her to have the manager come visit me. Again said nothing and left, no manager came over, although he visited most all the tables around us except ours. I started to think he was avoiding us; so be it. I have gone there so many times since it originally opened -- and this will be my last. Food was good, not very good -- scallops with butternut squash ( squash was barely luke warm). Simona, our waitress, was absolutely wonderful which brightened up the overall experience - thank you Simona. :)
The food was good as usual with enough variety to satisfy all. The service was friendly but misguided. Our salads were served to all, but the next course which to be fair was an appetizer size was brought almost immediately instead of with the other two entrees for our party of 3. The substitute vegetable was charged ala carte and one dinner salad side was charged at the reduced price but the other was charged ala carte. The manager rectified all the pricing issues but it should not have happened. Better training or better wait staff should be required.
The food was excellent. Butter nut squash soup with goAt cheese topping was flavorful & delicious. Salad with artichokes, black olives with a Parmesan vinegrette was so yummy. Shrimp, cherry tomatoes, spinach in a garlic wine sauce over angel hair pasta could have been more seasoned. Salmon with veggies & oven roasted potatoes was very good. Scallops were good. Filet mignon with potatoes & asparagus was excellent. Crime brûlée was exceptional! Service for a busy night was superb. Would definitely go here again.
Big Fish, for no apparent reason, is going seriously downhill.
It was crowded on our last visit--unusual, that, as Seasons 52 and Bahama Breeze have torn away most of its customers. Whatever the reason, the kitchen staff couldn't handle the press, and our food was seriously delayed.
And when it came out, it was lackluster. They have, for no reason on God's green earth, started putting chopped tomatoes on top of the chowder. WHY. The so-called "firecracker shrimp" is utterly bland and served on a bed of chopped lettuce, which does not enhance the presentation. The blackened fish was fine--and the blackened shrimp was even better--but the service was so-so and apologetic, and had a lot to apologize for. (I asked for sugar for my too-bitter iced tea and never got it; I swiped some from a nearby table.)
Complaining isn't enough by itself, so here are some suggestions:
1. Bring the bacon-wrapped shrimp back on the appetizer menu.
2. Why would you put tomatoes in New England clam chowder? It's like beans in chili, and DON'T GO GETTING ANY IDEAS ABOUT PUTTING BEANS IN CHILI.
3. Upgrade kitchen and waitstaff.
That's easy enough! Do those things. Because Bahama Breeze is right next door, and they have a better menu.
