Big Fish - Princeton Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent. Butter nut squash soup with goAt cheese topping was flavorful & delicious. Salad with artichokes, black olives with a Parmesan vinegrette was so yummy. Shrimp, cherry tomatoes, spinach in a garlic wine sauce over angel hair pasta could have been more seasoned. Salmon with veggies & oven roasted potatoes was very good. Scallops were good. Filet mignon with potatoes & asparagus was excellent. Crime brûlée was exceptional! Service for a busy night was superb. Would definitely go here again.
Big Fish, for no apparent reason, is going seriously downhill.
It was crowded on our last visit--unusual, that, as Seasons 52 and Bahama Breeze have torn away most of its customers. Whatever the reason, the kitchen staff couldn't handle the press, and our food was seriously delayed.
And when it came out, it was lackluster. They have, for no reason on God's green earth, started putting chopped tomatoes on top of the chowder. WHY. The so-called "firecracker shrimp" is utterly bland and served on a bed of chopped lettuce, which does not enhance the presentation. The blackened fish was fine--and the blackened shrimp was even better--but the service was so-so and apologetic, and had a lot to apologize for. (I asked for sugar for my too-bitter iced tea and never got it; I swiped some from a nearby table.)
Complaining isn't enough by itself, so here are some suggestions:
1. Bring the bacon-wrapped shrimp back on the appetizer menu.
2. Why would you put tomatoes in New England clam chowder? It's like beans in chili, and DON'T GO GETTING ANY IDEAS ABOUT PUTTING BEANS IN CHILI.
3. Upgrade kitchen and waitstaff.
That's easy enough! Do those things. Because Bahama Breeze is right next door, and they have a better menu.
I had not been to Big Fish in years. We decided to go for dinner and we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was good, the service was good and the prices quite reasonable. We had my 91 year old mom out for dinner and the handicapped accessibility was a welcome find.
This restaurant has very spotty service and appears to lack the ability to service the number of tables for which they can seat patrons. They pretty much admitted to the same When We complained about the service. So a word of warning, if you make a reservation through OpenTable, you may get a seat, but you may not get served as you would expect.
The food was basically good. The wait staff was very accommodating as was the manager. My husband ordered the oysters and was served one that was still frozen and had not been shucked. The manager immediately took them back and removed them from the bill. My daughter is gluten free and our waiter went out of his way to assure her food was prepared to her request. The big negative was the food was very slow to come out from the kitchen.
We started out with a rough start to our meal as our waitress took our drink order and we didn't see her for 20 minutes. Then when we did see her, she went to the table next to us and we still didn't place an order. Not sure what was going on with her but the manager was very much aware and jumped in the rescue and also got us a new waiter. Once we got our food, everything was delicious. I had the Seafood Trilogy and my husband had the Seared Scallops. Always enjoy Big Fish!
The services was the worst I have ever had at Big fish. We ordered drinks took a little time that was ok but then we ordered more drinks and they never came until our dinner was almost done. then we ordered coffee and tea with desert our coffee and tea came but we waited 20 mins. for desert which was cheesecake that was so uncalled for the server kept say it would be coming soon. Spoke to manager and told him we just wanted our check and leave and to cancel desert he said please I will take it off the bill we just wanted to goso he did wrap it up and we took it home
Very good seafood selection, Nice drink and wine selection, Appetizers were very good, especially the fried calamari, Main coarse was very good as well, Seafood was fresh and arrived at table hot . Our waitress was great, only disappointment not the first time was the bar service, very slow and with some attitude as well, I recommend not getting drinks at the bar, and expect long drink service at your table, Like I said, Food is great!
Nice pace to eat. casual but a bit loud. The waiter was intent upon seelling us the "select club" membership (a bit of a hard sell) but we bought (for $25) it anyway. The Landrys chain is good quality dining. Have enjoyed their food at multiple venues previously.
I have been to the Big Fish several times. I really enjoy their food and their cocktail menu. The fish is always fresh and nicely prepared. They also have a creative cocktail list with more than 10-15 cocktails available. My single complaint is always the service. It's just bad. No one fills your water, they often forget things, the servers often seem confused or new.
The place is sizable but not so big that things should take so long. This restaurant has been owned by Laundrys for some time now. I would have expected a
Professional owner would have noticed the feedback. It was Saturday night and the restaurant had space. In the past they have not. Maybe others have noticed
Given the price point I expect way better.
We've eaten at Big Fish several times, and the food, service and ambiance has been consistently good. They offer a wide variety of seafood dishes; always cooked to order and well-prepared (the waiter even took one diner's order for tuna cooked medium well without giving him an argument that it should be cooked no more than rare!). Definitely will return for future meals! If it matters, this restaurant is located at one end of the Market Fair shopping mall, conveniently adjacent to a large Barnes & Noble, with plenty of available parking.
Tuesday taste and toast special was a hit! A dozen oysters and a bottle of boggle Sauvignon blanc for $40. We also had an order if the firecracker shrimp yum! Dinners were snapper Hemingway, which I didn't remember that came breaded and Parmesan crusted flounder. The vegetables included were all very good. But the best..the jalapeño biscuits... enough to take home! Yeah!!
Restaurant staff very nice as always. BUT....I am still not happy that the 1,000 points option is restricted so that single diners are not eligible. I had intended to meet a friend, but she was unable to come due to weather and schedules, so my reservation was changed to 1 diner when I checked in and I received only 100 points rather than the 1,000. Single diners should at least get 500 points if this is a 1,000 point option for 2 diners! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never written a review- good or bad- after a dinner reservation. I felt that this experience was SO terrible that I had to. First off, we were put on a wait list to sit outside although we had a reservation. Fine, no big deal. While waiting, we decided to have a drink at the bar. The bartender and manager were SO incredibly rude and did not seem to quite get the idea of customer service. The manger was anxiously walking around, asking loudly "did these people pay???" It was so awkward and strange. After that, we finally get seated after over 30 minutes. We waited TWENTY MINUTES WITHOUT A SERVER COMING TO OUR TABLE. We asked the host, and multiple other servers if we could finally be seen. When the waiter finally did approach us, there was no apology etc. for the wait, which in that case would've made the night better and would've been forgotten. After the twenty minute wait at our table, we knew what we wanted, appetizers, entrees and all. Of course, the BIGGEST ticket item, CRAB LEGS, were "sold out" by the time he asked for our order. Honestly just a very strange, awkward and overall terrible experience. The food was absolutely terrible. I think we would've had a better time at Long John Silvers.
