Big Daddy’s – Upper West Side Ratings and Reviews
This is the cutest diner ever! I haven’t had tator tots in years and this place has the best tots ever! Our server Prince was super helpful. He recommended the easy rider and it was perfect!! Pancakes, bacon, eggs, and tots. What’s not for a girl to love. The host Jamie was a dream she was so nice to my daughter. Two thumbs up for the staff here at the upper west side big Daddy’s! Most definitely telling all my friends about this place!!
fun spot. very casual and relaxed. easy spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch and looks to have a great set up for evening as well. Need to go back to try some more menu selections! Staff was really friendly and attentive. And, hey...they've been there since 1969, so they must be getting it right!
The place definitely needs to be deep cleaned.. floors and tables were filthy .. food was decent but definitely not great and the expensive milkshake I was so excited to taste...was overpriced and underwhelming ...could be a nice place if only they would try
I've been to this location a few times over the last few years & experienced consistently bad service. The staff must have never eaten in restaurants & have no clue to good service. Long waits & indifferent attitudes are the rule. The food is bland & always seems to include some really off ingredients. The Thai salad had pieces of frozen mango tossed in with the wilted greens, for example. Once food is delivered, don't expect to see your server again until you have to beg for the check. Not recommended.
Amazing brunch for my daughter's fourth birthday before heading over to the Children's Museum. Everyone was incredibly friendly and made her feel very special with a special Happy Birthday serenade and chocolate milkshake dipped in sprinkles with a candle. Very family friendly and everyone seemed be okay with the noise and excitement of the two four year olds we had with us. Very pleasant surprise, especially for NYC! The host/manager was fantastic and friendly and our server was fantastic! Also great food and absolutely the best milkshakes we have ever had! Will be going again!

To NYC we grabbed dinner here after a jam packed day of museum going. Recommended to us by college age niece's new Yorker friend. Diner comfort food with emphasis on burgers & sandwiches. Very tasty & fun retro diner atmosphere. Meat in burger far above average.
We went for burgers, but decided on chicken sandwiches instead -- The Chicken Lickin’ Sandy and Mr. Big Stuff -- both very good. One of us had tater tots & one had sweet potato tots -- also very good. Big Daddy's features frozen margaritas. We prefer on the rocks, and they came out way too sweet -- probably using the same mix they use for frozen, and they didn't put salt on the glass. I had to send mine back; my wife had to dilute hers with water & add lime. Also disappointed that ribs & fried chicken are off the menu. (They were listed in the online menu we searched.) Finally, we found the prices very very high. Luckily we had a 20% off coupon, which made it still overpriced, but affordable. Our waiter was friendly and the service was good.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I went there because they advertised it on the view. I figured I'd take my kids there and try it out. When we arrived the place smelled bad like they'd mopped the floor with dirty water my 10 year old was like Mommy it stinks, so we sat outside instead. The waitress was not prompt and didn't seem like she liked her job. We ordered pancakes and waffles with fruit. The waffles were good except they don't use real fruit, like really who eats this syrupy stuff ruined the meal. My kids wouldn't eat it and the side of bacon was burnt . I could have went to IHOP. At least the pancakes would be fluffy. Maybe the other food is good. I was so turned off I didn't get the milkshake they had on the view.
Horribly loud, lots of screaming children and loud music that made conversation difficult. Waited 20 minutes for drinks, then another fifteen for appetizers we ordered with the drinks. Waitress said they ran out of all beer (drafts and bottles) expect for Budweiser and Bud Light.....never experienced this in any restaurant setting! One of the drinks was served in a cracked glass and a soda was served in a glass that was filthy! Service was slow and our party felt ignored. The food, once received was decent.....but didn't make up for all of the other issues.
I went here for my birthday lunch with a couple of friends and had such a fun and amazing time. We couldn't finish our food but got boxes to pack it up which was really nice. Overall I loved it, service can be slow if there are a lot of people in the restaurant.
My family and I loved the atmosphere, the food and it a perfect place to bring the kids. Our favorite was the tot-chos and the portions were great. The only problem was we waited an hour to get our food and people around us ate, drank and left before we received our food. The staff kept "going to check on our food" to return with other patrons orders. It would have been nice if staff had expressed an apology for the poor service but it didn't happen. I'm hoping it was just a fluke and would receive better service in the future.
We went for Mothers Day with a party of 5 adults and 1 child. The food was fresh and tasty, with exciting options for kids and adults. My neice recommends the birthday pancakes! I had the funky chicken and frozen spiked lemonade; both were delish! Our server was wonderful, as was the host. I was very inpressed with the cleanliness, considering its popular with kids.
I was MOST impressed with the fact that the restaurant welcomed a fellow diner with her adorable and well mannered companion dog into the restaurant; truly a wonderful, attentive,Compassionate establishment!
We celebrated my 13yr. old son's birthday with his 6 friends with parents and they had a blast. Especially the milk shakes which were a big hit. We got the balcony seating which gave us some privacy. Great place for a group and the adults enjoyed the scenery with the pictures of old time shows.
Although we made a reservation, the restaurant wasn't equipped to take us at our reserved time. There was no one at the desk to help us for about 10 minutes and one of the staff members were rude to my kid because he was in the way. After finally getting the chance to ask for a table, we waited for another 10 minutes and then we just left. It was my 9yr old son's birthday and the mood was being ruined. I wouldn't recommend this place for kids really. Although the decorations were colorful, my son, his friend and I didn't feel welcomed at all.
This is the second time I ate at the Upper West Side Big Daddy's and I'm not going back. There are never enough servers. Once again they messed up my Open Table reservation. It's too loud. Too frenetic. Not enough space between tables. On the plus side, the menu is creative and the food is tasty.
I never write reviews, but I went with 3 kids and the service was very slow. Took 30 minutes to get water on the table and over an hour to get our food once they finally took our order. The back area where they seated our party of 8 was right under the heater and was SO HOT! It was kid-friendly in that it was loud... however they have small games in the back that my kids were so excited to play and it just ate my money without working. At that point we just wanted to get out of there. We won't be coming back unfortunately.
