Big Daddy’s – Upper West Side Ratings and Reviews
It was good food (although the tots are exactly the same as the frozen ones from the grocery store, not world famous) but the service was terrible. There was only 1 guy working the whole one side of the restaurant as what looked like bus boys walked around looking like they weren't sure what to do with themselves.
We put in an order of macaroni and she was for our 2 year old and the waiter never put the order in so he didn't get that.
My salad was good, but my 7 year old thought the ranch was spicy. It was good for me, but I could see how a kid wouldn't like it.
While the atmosphere is energetic and friendly, the service was sorely lacking. The food was equally disappointing. Even the kids didn't eat the "mozzarella sticks". How do you mess up mozzarella sticks? By using imitation cheese and unsavory breading.
Will definitely NOT go back.
Traveling with a child with a peanut allergy can be challenging. Finding Big Daddy's made our trip to NYC extra special! It is a big deal when you have a nut allergy to be able to order anything off the menu - especially a delicious ice cream shake! All 7 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Food was great! Prices seemed reasonable considering we were in NYC.
Brought out of town guests (including a 4 year old). I raved about the restaurant and the options on the menu. Although the server was sweet and helpful, he wasn't accommodating of the child. He didn't bring a place-mat or crayons for the child. The iced tea tasted like water. My replacement drink (Dr Pepper) was flat. The food was served room temperature, and it seemed like it had been sitting out. The milk shakes were so watery and the consistency was so thin, it was practically just "flavored milk". I felt embarrassed for recommending Big Daddy's to my guests.
I had a great experience at Big Daddy's! I celebrated my Birthday there for the fourth time. I was with a group of friends including one 2 year old child. The Restaurant was very courteous, accommodating and provided great service. The food was great and came out promptly. Since I signed up with Big Daddy's they give me a free Burger and Shake every year on my Birthday! I had a wonderful time at Big Daddy's and look forward to going there again!
Good burgers and tator tots as usual. My date appreciated the gluten-free bun. We were both looking forward to the Diet Boyland's Root Beer but I had to settle for Diet Creme Soda. She opted for water. Service was good up until checkout. Appears the waitress abandoned us.
Big Daddy's fit the bill for a restaurant that would be good for ages 5-70. There was a wide variety of food that appealed to everyone. Service was very good and they had children's menus that the children liked.
The colorful decorations, video games and quick service for the children kept them entertained.
It's not a restaurant for foodies, not romantic but it was perfect for what we needed.
It was very disappointing to have one waiter covering too many customers at one time.
We were ignored and the chocolate egg cream was made with flat seltzer and very little syrup. This was not what I was expecting for a first visit to your restaurant.
My overall experience was unsatisfactory.
Big Daddy's, as always, did fantastically with the food and drinks. Everyone left stuffed and with leftovers and pretty buzzed after boozy brunch. However, the service at the Big Daddy's on the UWS was subpar. Our waitress and the hostess were both unfriendly and put a bit of a damper on what was supposed to be a fun, energetic boozy brunch.
I made reservations for Big Daddy on the train on my way into the city, and glad I did. When we arrived, we overheard that it would be a half hour wait for the couple in front of us--for diner food?!?--but we sailed right in (thanks Open Table!), and were seated.
Once we settled in, I understood the wait time and long line. The atmosphere is boisterous with music and convival conversation, but in a fun, casual way. The food, albeit not for dieters, was delicious with ample amount of bacon and cheese, and the portions were just about right too. The service wasn't great, but the food was prompt and tasty, and I can't really fault our waitress considering how busy it was.
All in all a fun romp and filling lunch. I will definitely be back for more Big Daddy!
Went to Big Daddy's Saturday with some friends for breakfast/lunch... what a menu! Everything from eggs to pancakes, burgers sandwiches you name it. Super huge portions, great tots and the best milkshakes. The variety of choices is unreal. Prices were cheap and service was good. Highly recommended if you are looking for diner type food with a twist!
Colorful retro-TV shows walls, good home-style food, great STRONG alcoholic milkshakes. Wait staff was attentive. Got us our second round of happy hour drinks at 6:59! Half-price appetizers from 4-7 (I think). Was hard to choose food because there is so much stuff. If you run out of things to talk about, just look at the walls and you will think of something.
My family went to Big Daddy's for a Mother's Day lunch, and we loved the place. The decor and atmosphere are fun and nostalgic, and the food was great! We loved the variety of pancake options (we tried a few of them, all of which turned out well), and got a kick out of the menu- they definitely got creative while naming items! It was also fun getting to play with the Trivial Pursuit cards left on each table.
Our only complaint would be our waitress- she was attentive when we first arrived (and my dad was still outside trying to find a parking space, which took a while), but once the food was set on our table we barely saw her and had to practically trip her to get our check. She never checked on us or our food, and seemed bothered when we asked to pack up the leftovers- she only brought 3 boxes at first, despite there being four meals (and she knew it- she handed them to us saying she only had 3, but would get another if needed, which honestly doesn't make sense).
It's a shame, because the rest of the experience was great. We'd happily go back since we all have more dishes we'd like to try, but only if we can try another member of the waitstaff too.
Friendly staff. Our waitress was great & helpful. I did have a problem with Open Table, I made my reservations & I have put n the comments that we was celebrating ours son's 5th birthday & I had asked about if they made bday's cakes cake. I don't know if the restaurant seen my comment cause it wasn't addressed. My son had a good time but it would of been better if he was acknowledge with a cake & maybe a song. I choose this restaurant cause if was recommended that it was kid friendly but the ambiance isnt. Overall we had a good time.
Dined here with an out of towner. The menu is extensive with a wide variety of pancakes and milkshakes. The place was a bit pricey but consistent for the neighborhood. Our food came fast and hot, large portions and quite tasty. Service basic, not particularly friendly or helpful but our waitress got the job done.
We went to Big Daddy's on a Saturday morning. I was surprised to see that there were tables available for reservations throughout the entire morning, so I became a bit skeptical, since at 11 am in the city on a Saturday, any decent breakfast or brunch spot has a significant wait. But I couldn't have been more wrong. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Ever. Two people ordered the Bow Wow Wow breakfast (basically ham, egg, cheese and hash brown in a waffle sandwich) which was ridiculously good as well. The breakfast burrito was a great option as well. The oldies decor was great, and the vintage items used to decorate brought me back to my childhood. If you're roaming the upper west side and are in the mood for breakfast, just go here.
