Big Daddy's - Gramercy Park Ratings and Reviews
Very good service. The waiter who greeted me was very professional , warm and welcoming. The food was very good, the music was pleasing and at a good level. The decoration is an overload to your senses but historically entertaining. It may take sometime for your order to be taken because the waiters are way too busy during lunch time, but I would definitely go back.
Prior to our visit to New York, I looked online for cool kid friendly restaurants and found Big Daddy’s Diner, and boy was I happy I did. The food was awesome, they staff was super friendly and attentive and my kids loved the music. We loved it and would definitely come back!!
The food was really good, no complaints about that, the only downside was that my friends and I felt the food took a little long. The table that was next to us which was a family got their food and ate and left before we got anything and our waitress never checked up on us. She was perfectly nice in the beginning and said she’d give us a few minutes to decide what to order but then didn’t come back for a while and I didn’t see her. When the food did come it all tasted really good, but the milkshakes didn’t look like what we thought. I could be wrong but I thought the milkshakes come with some decoration around the rim of the cup and I saw other guests have it but none of ours did, so we kind of felt like they didn’t care so that was a little bit of a bummer since I came for my birthday and we felt like we were just left behind. It’s not something I would bring up to a waitress because it’s just presentation and I don’t want to be a bother, but when you advertise a drink to look a certain way and it doesn’t come that way it’s a bit disappointing. We basically didn’t see our waitress again so I don’t know what happened. It probably is just this one waitress not the restaurant over all. Keep in mind it wasn’t super busy but I would totally understand if she just came by to just say it might take a little while because I know things happen that customers don’t see. Nothing super bad but little details like that I think make a difference.
The food was good. We had burgers that were really good and juicy. The fried chicken sandwich was ok but dry. Could have used some more sauce. The Mac n cheese kids meal was delicious and a good portion size. My only main complaint was the bathroom. It was extremely dirty and smelled. That should be a number one priority. I went to the bathroom first and I almost didn’t stay for the meal.
Had the best experience here! Because of university I can't meet up with many of my friends so me and my best friend made plans here hoping to catch up! Best choice everrr the food was filling and such good comfort food. The mozzarella sticks are a must and the shakes were amazing. The vibe of the place is great too, totally instagram worthy
I thought this place would have great food after reading so many reviews raving about the food. However, the tator tots were disappointing, they were way too greasy. The pancakes were dry and there was a fan right above my table so they got cold very quickly. Would not recommend to a friend, unless they are looking for a diner after doing a lot of drinking.
Big Daddy's reminded me of an old diner. We went for the everyday brunch and received great service. The breakfast foods were delicious, although they were very big portions. My friend and I could have easily split one entrée as they came with a side too. Very fun experience.
Shocking service - disorganised to say the least. 30 min wait to have our order taken, with drinks coming after the food had arrived (wrong drinks at that - with the waiter rolling her eyes at me when I corrected the order...). Food was fast and ok. Decor was fun.
Went for Father's Day brunch. Seated promptly and service was good . Kitchy atmosphere as expected, a mix of pop-icon decor from 50's-80's with 50's style furnishing. Food is fair. Orange juice was straight from te carton. French toast was forgettable, dry and over cooked although the accompanying fruit compote was very good. Chocolate chunk pancakes were very good. Omelet was fair at best, eggs over beaten and dry, caramelized onions not very caramelized and goat cheese dry and not melted due to being added late and just folded in on plate.
Our server went above and beyond and felt with a large and loud group of girls at night, she was an MVP. Like for instance my friend spilt her milk shake so the waitress made her a second one for free. Also the balloons they added were a nice touch. And the big booth they had was perfect for a party setting with a lot of people because everyone was included in the conversation as imposed to when you need to have those long tables and everyone becomes separated.
tale of 2 days, went sat for lunch and service and food was very good. salads were very fresh and very big. service was terrific, not a very long wait for food.
sunday at lunch was another story. was with a friend and everything was a disaster. ordered at 11.45 and didn't get food until 12.35 after asking 3 different people.
ordered cobb salad, very good.
banana choc. chunk pancakes well done with a side of well done bacon. pancakes were not well done and there was only 4 little chunks of choc on the top pancake, not cooked inside nor were the bananas inside. bacon came out 1/2raw, sent back
omelette was ordered with well done French fries, fries came out cold and not well done.
mgr came over and took the bacon and fries back to kitchen and miracle came back with crisp bacon and hot, but not w.done fries.
also they don't serve homemade iced tea in this day and age.
we have been eating here for years and always loved it, but now I have 2nd thoughts.
Our waitress was pleasant, but very inattentive. We did the 2 hour unlimited drinks and it took 35 min to get our first beverage. We had another waitress flag her down nearly every time we needed something. We were seated in the upstairs area which might have contributed to the problem- it seemed like she forgot about us or just never had time to come upstairs and check. The food was great and came out very quickly and the prices are good.
We had to wait for the food for an hour, would be easier if we could have gotten that information from start or if the kitchen could be able to handle a full seated restaurant.
Food was good, good prices and amazing atmosphere. Big portions and the full American experience.
I have never left a bad review, and would probably not be leaving this one if not for the particularly egregious service. I have been going to Big Daddy's for a few years now and the service there has been on a such a decline that this is truly my last visit. The wait wasn't the only issue this time. The service was extremely slow, the food was sub-par. The bathroom was so bad, I felt I needed to go somewhere else to wash up after using the bathroom just to wash my hands. Cold water and no way to dry your hands after washing. Gross to say the least. Food was bland and tasteless. The visit by the homeless vagrant was truly was an added turn off. The service staff themselves were both lifeless and Inattentive. They literally acted like they would all rather be somewhere else. Not the friendly or caring in the least. Used to be one of my favorite places to go with family and friends. The last person I recommended did not have a happy experience, so no further recommendation will be given and as for me and my family, we are done!
Food was ok. Tater tots were the big draw for me and my 6 year-old nephew. Service was really nice but reaaaaallly slow. More gluten free options and a simple kids menu would be nice. Also chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. We tried the lucky charms shake and had a "vibrant" surprise in the bathroom the next day :O
