Bier Markt - The Esplanade (Toronto)
You can’t go wrong. Good food and extensive selection of beers.
I'm actually not a big beer drinker. I go for the food and the service, both of which are top notch. Make sure to try their Caesar (unless you are a vegetarian!).
Spent a large portion of the night trying to order food and/or drinks. Most of the table frequently sat with empty pint glasses looking for the server. Perhaps the most frustrating part is that it wasn't even busy. Not the first time the service has been painfully slow, so probably the last time visiting this venue for us.
Beer was great, food was awesome! Duck wings! Yay!
Our server was amazing, we were amazed by how she knew so much about the huge beer list!
The food is delicious & the staff is very friendly! The list of beers is endless. My beer was served in a very cold glass which was a plus! The band was amazing! This place rocks!
Service was painfully slow and not very friendly. The server dropped the bill off the table with the machine and walked away. We didn't see her again.
Sorry, but won't be returning.
Went before hockey game with reservation waited over 15 min and did not even take drink order so left and had food un Scotia Club.
Aside from our server, who was lovely and accommodating as much as possible, we were disappointed with our experience at Bier Markt and won't be returning any time soon.
- the oysters were very small for their value. $3.50 plus tax per oyster and they're half the size of, say, The Auld Spot on the Danforth.
- I ordered a steak medium rare, closer to rare, and when it finally came it was tough and barely pink at all.
- we waited an hour for our main course. Yes it was a Friday night, but at a prime location with a reputation to uphold the kitchen should have been more on it.
great food! service was unfriendly and slow. vibe was great
Terrible chairs. Asked to be moved they said I couldn't. Waited 40 minutes to be told they didn't have the ingredients for either of our dinners on a Friday night. Waitress was very nice and friendly. Extremely disappointed with the restaurant.
The food was great ! The BIER was also great ! And a huge selection of the finest and most crisp BIERS in the area !
Our waitress tried, but things just didn’t go right. Booked a table and was sat in the bar. Good beer selection. Chicken schnitzel was so over cooked my boyfriend couldn’t really eat it. Our appetizer didn’t come until after our meal only because we said we didn’t want to pay for it since we didn’t get it.
My wife and I spent our anniversary at Bier Markt before the Carry Underwood concert. Food was great (beer cheese dip, steak and pork). Would definitely go back!
Had a veteran server and a trainee. Someone else delivered our food and our pre dinner drinks were already gone. Took over 10 min to get a check in for a second round with our food.
Friendly but not around enough.
Great food though!
Sub par food, weak aperol spritz, lousy waitress! I know this is a pub but it is also Toronto and you are not meeting the standard. Thankfully another waiter stepped in and took are main order and also got our bill. We tipped the minimum acceptable of 15%.
I reserved a table for 2, we were out right beside another table for 2 that was already occupied, no privacy, could over hear everything we each were saying. I asked for a different table as there were many others unoccupied and I was told they only had a high top we could move to, there was a table for 4 right behind us that no one sat at while we were there. Music was very loud but still able to hear everything going on at the table beside us
Service was good but we were not advised of the schnitzel Oktoberfest special. We did order the schnitzel for two which was good but a bit overcooked while the Wiener schnitzel was very salty. Still, we enjoyed our lunch & would likely return.
This was our second time here. I have been dreaming about 'The Big Schnit' since we were here in May. This is officially my go-to now when we are in Toronto. Is it possible that it was even better the second time around? The service here is outstanding, the food is amazing, and the beer selection overwhelming. We will certainly be back our next trip to the city.
Excellent service great food
They’ve changed their menu since my last visit and it’s smaller. Prices a little expensive now too. Sharing board used to be my fav but way less options and smaller portions and you don’t even get pickles anymore.
Great food and beer, and lots of it. We ate early in the evening so we were not around when the music started. Waitress MaryAnne was the best, very knowledgeable and attentive. Will definitely go again on my return to Toronto.
Service wasn’t good. We had to try and hunt down our service on multiple occasions. The food was okay but not very good for the price.
I’ve had good experiences at Bier Markt before but this visit was frustrating! My husband and I had a reservation but there was only 1 staff manning the front desk and she was clearly overworked getting tables ready and taking customers to a table. After waiting for quite a while to get our table, my husband’s chair was clearly broken. We were moved to another table but waited over 10 minutes for menus and even longer to place a drink order. I had to ask for cutlery. Our food was good but just getting the attention or service from the waiter was frustrating. I left feeling underwhelmed and frustrated. For the amount we spent, I would have expected much better service. The restaurant was clearly understaffed.
We were greeted at the door very promptly, our server was at our table very quickly and helped with beer selection. I noticed our server not writing anything down, this resulted in bringing both food orders out incorrectly. A steak cooked incorrectly and without the requested sides and a burger with incorrect mods.
The food runner then asked if we wanted to keep the stark while they make another one. They never brought another one. Seemed very disorganized.
Manager did table check and was very friendly
Above average on all accounts
Slow service. Beer menu variety has declined.
Came here for lunch with my parents, seated us in a place we requested and served quickly. Food was delicious and I would come back again! Good value for money
When we first arrived, we went to the patio, where we sat for15 minutes and were not even acknowledged. The staff were unfriendly and not helpful. We left for another restaurant for before dinner drinks and returned to the Bier Markt for our 7 p.m. dinner reservation.
Lunch visit...good food. It was very quiet for a Friday lunch but it was a long weekend Friday so that explains that.
The restaurant was extremely noisy, unpleasant really. The service was good, the food was sorrily lacking in flavour, overpriced and it was not hot.
We sat on the patio on a beautiful summer day and enjoyed ourselves. Our table tilted very badly and I asked to have it fixed. Coasters were brought but we were left on our own to fix it which we did. Our server was very pleasant. App of Brussels sprouts flakes was delicious. My large pot of mussels was not. The mussels were all right but the broth underneath was dreadful. Enormous chunk of bacon not chopped through. Very little liquid. I left a large portion and pointed out the mess so the chef could be told. My friend’s salad was very good. Overall, a pleasant enough meal except for the mussels. Not exactly raring to return.
My only real complaint was the service which was super slow. We got our first drink no problem but then we saw no one for 40 mins & I had to go ask someone to send our server over to take our food order. Food was pretty good but again no one came to ask if we wanted another drink until after our food was done. Then we ordered another drink & the bill which took quite awhile to come & it was only water & soda water! Then we waited for our server to come with the machine and again I had to go get her attention. Apparently one of their machines wasn't working & the restaurant was busy but I had a train to catch. Clearly not enough staff & machines....not impressed.
Had dinner before a show @ Scotiabank Centre. The selection of beer was excellent, and the food was formidable. The Big Schnit sandwich was amazing, service was great as well. Would recommend for sure.
Service does not even deserve a star. Our waitress took our order and brought us our drinks, and that was the last time we saw her. Things were missing from our order, did not get offered if we wanted any refills on our drinks, we waited 15 min after finishing eating still with no service. Finally someone came to clear our table and we said we don’t know where our server is but we need our bill. Took another 15 minutes to get our bill, the bill was wrong so we had to wait to get the new bill. Our food was alright but because of how bad the service was I will not return to this restaurant.
Bier Markt was one of the best pub-grubs I’ve ever been to in Toronto. I can’t wait to dine with them again!
Food and ambiance is great, the service not so much. We got our food and had to wait several minutes for cutlery, and could never seem to find our server when we needed her. We had to pull other servers over to help us get refills on drinks etc. I also didn't find the hostess to be that friendly, nor she listen. I had booked a table in advance. When I got there I asked the hostess can we eat outside? To which she said yes, but then took us to a booth indoors. When I questioned her about outside she said, oh sorry I guess I wasn't listening then just sat us at the booth. I was too hungry and in a rush at that point to care, but being I've been a server for many years service means a lot to me. If you don't care then then place is great. If you do - find somewhere else to eat.
This bar is great for hanging out on the patio or watching a sports game. We normally go for the beer selection and atmosphere, with the food quality being an added bonus! They also have a surprising variety of healthy / veggie options. This time round we were there to see the Raptors take the championship! What an electric atmosphere. The team at BM did a great job coping with the crowds
Everything was great. Just should have fixed your TV prior to the finals. That was annoying.
Watched the Raptors win in game 6! Watched 3/6 final games at the Bier Markt. Such a great time!!!!
